    Pros +

    • The owners were great. Breakfast was surprisingly good and home cooked.
    • The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
    • Historic with steps which are steep. once on floor access fine.

    Cons -

    • No air conditioning or fan. Very old and in very poor condition. The building shakes every 5 min due to the underground train. I would never stay again. The pics are VERY deceiving!
    • The hotel was very old, and I was concerned about fire safety.
    • Unfortunately, my stay did not meet expectations. The room was extremely small, leaving very limited space to move or store luggage. The heating device did not function properly at night, which made the room uncomfortable, especially during colder hours. In addition, the bathroom was very small and felt quite cramped. Considering the price charged for the room, the overall experience was not reasonable and did not offer good value for money.

The location was 5 mins walk from Paddington station. Which is great!

Forgot to check if there were any lifts! No lifts available. We stayed at the top floor and the stairs become steep and narrow as you go on top. The room was cramped and same as the bathroom. Nothing like the one in the photo—different bathroom. It says on the description that the reception is 24 hrs but it’s not. You have to ring a number if there is no staff in the reception. Overall it’s still good value for money granted that we only stayed there for 2 days but I cannot see myself staying there longer. Another plus side was the location.

The breakfast served was exceptionally good and the staff was dedicated to serve. The portion of food was good enough to provide us with the energy to tour London each day.

The room heater seemed faulty and did not warm up each night. But its okay as the room was not so cold at night.

Room small. No safe in room

    Location

Broken toilet, but sent to another floor. No lift.

    Located close to Paddington Station.

Very difficult climb to top floor with large bags, shower set up wasn’t safe for older guests. Room was too hot for sleep and bed position was inadequate to accommodate two guests.

The location was great, in Paddington, easy to get around via walk, bus, and underground. The breakfast was appreciated and the staff was great and accommodating.

As with other apartments in central London, the accommodation was very small, narrow and built tall as opposed to wide. We are a family of 4 so we were in a quadruple room on the 3rd floor. There were 60+ steps to get to our room and there was very little room to move around in the room. The beds were 2 full size beds as opposed to queen or king. We made it work and were very grateful for the Avalon Hotel and their staff.

The only thing good about this hotel was the location - a couple blocks from Paddington Station.

When we got to the hotel, the receptionist said we could switch our triple room to a double room so we didn’t have to walk up the stairs to the third floor. We still had to walk up 3 flights of stairs and there was no compensation in the price. There were only 2 towels in the very tiny room. There was no air conditioning and you had to step out of the bathroom to wash your hands at the sink.

Close to tube station, clean and good breakfast

One morning there was no hot water for a shower. We had to leave early and would miss breakfast. They said that they would leave a take away breakfast and did not. The rooms are very small.

Convenient location; clean, comfortable rooms; outstanding professional staff.

Location is great. Close to Paddington station (trains and underground) and well served with buses also.Several restaurants nearby very friendly and good quality.

The stairs! We did know in advance the hotel had no lift but we got the room on the upper floor and had almost 100 steep steps to get to the room which was too much. Also the room was quite small for 3 people with no room to circulate and the bathroom was really tiny. Felt like a toilet in an aircraft adding a shower. It was a challenge to bathe because of the very small size and running out of water half way through and having to wait until it came back.

Great location, central, close to paddington train station, a lot of food restaurants near by and hopp on and hoppoff bus stop just right out side.

The stairs, the pictures did not do the justice to the room. The room was very tiny, barely any leg movement inside the room even if you are two.

Nothing was good only one man in kitchen was nice and polite

The staff were very unprofessional the ladies at the reception were very unhelpful and rude I had booked in advance and had asked them for a cot there was no cot they gave me the room that was on the 5th floor with 3 children n baby. I asked for toilet paper they said to me come down and get it I couldn't leave 3 children on Their own to get toilet paper so she was unhappy about coming upstairs. The toilets were like aeroplane toilets that didn't even flush.

Good position near Paddington Station & the underground stations, Paddington basin & canal. Clean rooms, comfortable beds. Tasty breakfast. Friendly staff. Ease of checking in. Room was ready straight away. Left luggage until train home.

The room & bathroom were very small & up several flights of stairs, quite steep. Bed against the wall so no bedside table. Quite cramped for 2 people. Rumble of trains could be heard throughout the hotel.

This is a 2-star hotel. The front of house staff are very helpful and professional. Overall, the hotel has a clean and efficient feel to it and located perfectly close to Paddington station - 5 minutes walk.

The bedrooms are average and the decor a little dated and tired - I.e some ripped wallpaper. The bed linen and towels are clean. The principal drawback to the room in which we stayed, is the small size of the bathroom and in particular, the shower cubicle. If you are the size of a Hobbit you would feel at home in the shower. However, for a regular human it is very restrictive. Not at all recommended for guests who are broad, tall or Rubenesque…

Location was spot on, pubs and restaurants in the next street, breakfast in the morning added to the value for money
