Pros +
- LocationStaff was very helpful and receptive to concerns.
- Excellent hotel, wonderful breakfast, room was warm (it was December and snowing) and sparkling clean. Will stay her next time we are in London as the location is excellent, walking distance to the West End shows and the Queen Elizabeth line.
- Honestly Everything I stayed at this hotel for 7 days and had a wonderful experience. The rooms were clean and comfortable, housekeeping was excellent, and breakfast was delicious with fresh baked pastries every morning. The reception team Amila, Baron, Davide, Felix, Ida, Andrea, Sithara, and Janos, were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant and kitchen team — Krishna, Tea, Erangi, Tidi, and Menta, did a fantastic job every morning.Great location near three underground stations, and Russell square garden, with many cafés and restaurants nearby. A lovely hotel in a quiet and pleasant area. Highly recommended.
Cons -
- Size of the room very smallThe armoire could only be opened by scraping its door against the bedside table.
- NO ELEVATOR -- the staff kindly carried some of our bags up the 6 flight of stairs to our rooms. If you have mobility issues request a lower floor for sure!!! We wanted TWIN BEDS and these are only on the top floor. Room was small (expected for this area of London) but lovely. And the mini bar is FREE and they restocked if you asked!!!
- A little hard to walk from the subway

Smooth and easy to find plus well located and staff was super cool
A little hard to walk from the subway
Good location and very kind staff!
This hotel is more equivalent to a 3 star hotel. The rooms are a bit run down, you hear absolutely everything and the room was way too hot! We had to put the AC on in January in order to be able to sleep.
The location
I did not have a good experience at this hotel. I was given a room that had a very strong sewage smell. When I informed one of the staff members and asked to change the room, he insisted that there was no smell and suggested it might be my perfume or the smell from my luggage, which was quite unprofessional.I insisted on changing the room, and another staff member handled the situation much better. He was very polite, apologized, and explained that housekeeping had used a chemical in the bathroom, which caused the smell. He then changed my room.Unfortunately, the new room was not in a good location, but I accepted it because I was very tired and did not have time to argue further. Overall, this experience left a negative impression, and I am certain that I will not return to this hotel again.
The staff was wonderful--very professional and always ready to help. Breakfast was great. The room was small but comfortable with some small issues (Heater did not work, so they changed my room with an upgrade to a bigger bed).
The bathroom facilities were very small but fine. The towel heater did not work and it was hard to see how to make it work. I was offered to get someone to explain at the end but then felt like it was not necessary any longer.
The staff was always helpful and friendly. Our room, facing the courtyard was very quiet. Breakfast was always good and had a variety of offerings.
All staff were super helpful and charming. I felt like they treated us with so much respect. I forgot to make a request for a room with a bathtub beforehand, but it was no problem to make a switch.
I feel like the breakfast could have been a little more, more options, I was expecting a "Hilton" type breakfast. It wasn bad I was just limited.
Excellent location, efficient and friendly staff, clean and well appointed facilities!
Location was good.
There is no lift access and the room floor was not even. Housekeeping was not consistent.
Service was exceptional. Breakfast was one of the best continental breakfasts I have had. Beautiful garden area. The Academy was a lovely respite during a very busy visit.
There was a toilet repair issue that required a room change, but that was beyond the control of the staff, who handled the situation graciously.
it was all fine.
I extended my stay and talked to the front desk and they couldn't match the price on bookings.com so I kept booking through that and it was a bit convoluted. They also are part of Hilton but not really so you can't actually get points for your stay.
Room was beautiful and comfortable but a little bit small, which was to be expected. Continental breakfast was great with many options and fresh fruit. The little bar was lovely. The patio was beautiful but the weather was a cold and rainy - I expect it would be really beautiful in the summer.
Hotel is converted from an old house which feels nice.
The windows can not be opened, so we could not get fresh air.
5th stay at The Academy. We love it! Excellent location and facilities! The staff makes it feel like home, especially Felix!
Very cute, quirky hotel in several old Victorian houses. Great location, a five-minute-walk from the British Museum. Very tiny room but well equipped, immaculately clean, and with a very comfortable bed. Very nice staff and good breakfast.
There was a gap between the door and the wall, meaning you could see a ray of light in the room all night long. During my previous stay I was in another room and there was the exact same issue. It should be easy to fix. Also bear in mind that you may have to climb up to three levels of stairs to access your room. That said, the staff happily carried the suitcase for me both ways, I did not even have to ask. And you get to discover the lay out of Victorian houses, which is charming.
The staff was unrivalled. Every person I encountered wanted to make my experience great. The common spaces are beautiful. The continental breakfast is excellent.
Room 52 is like a Harry Potter under the stairs experience. Small, cavelike, with window that opens onto the common courtyard. Desk, but with chair you can’t move given bed placement. Avoid if possible.
Good breakfast- very helpful staff
stairs! lots of them!residence bar closes too early
The backyard garden , the great breakfast and the wonderful staff
