Multiple bath/shower options required an advanced engineering qualification: managed to crack it eventually! Minor quibble, otherwise 10/10

A lovely character property. Very central for the City and near the West End.

The room, albeit ok was a little tired. The waterfall shower suffered badly from limescale and whilst ok not a great flow. We advised on leaving. We were upgraded to a club room but the bed consisted of two single mattresses and was therefore uncomfortable in the middle. The shaving mirror was ok for your belly/chest but not for your face - unless you were short. All this reported for room 251

Breakfast was poor waited over 1/2 hour for a coffee by then we left and asked for refund there was lots of service but nothing to serve very poor for a 5star hotel

Great location, staff fantastic.

Smallish room, coffee stains on wall paper, bathroom needed a refresh. Furniture tired. (Room 421).

Great location near to multiple tube lines and Elizabeth line. Friendly attentive staff who were very helpful. Decent enough breakfast.

The whole building is looking tired and in need of refurbishing. And the breakfast room is to crowded and very noisy and chaotic

The breakfast buffet had a great selection, in pleasant surroundings. The hotel location was convenient for the purposes of this trip. Rooms were clean. Staff members were friendly, but as explained below, not consistently effective.

The heating system was not working at all in the first room we were given (on a winter night with very cold temps), and most of the evening reception staff were ineffective and sluggish in responding. We waited an extended period for an engineer to come, who confirmed the heating was not working, and then never returned despite saying he would be back in a few minutes. We were then given conflicting messages from different reception staff, and were only allocated a new room after more than an hour of going back and forth, and this happened only when we stood at the front desk and insisted upon it; we should not have had to do this. The new room was comfortable (with good heating), but the toilet had a fault where the water kept running after flushing, even after they sent an engineer. We were also awoken by two fire alarms that went off at different times in the middle of the night. We gained the impression that the hotel probably needs an overall upgrade of basic room facilities, and is having difficulties with on-going maintenance. It also seemed that some staff members were unprepared to deal with such issues, and focused on superficial responses (e.g. 'can I give you a cup of tea') rather than addressing the problems as quickly as possible. We wondered if those staff members were unsure how to resolve the problems, or if they were not allowed to take actions without waiting for an authorisation from an absent manager. We've stayed at this hotel previously, and had good experiences; this time was a disappointment, and will prevent us from going back any time soon.

The service and staff were very good and the decor was very nice.

The indoor fire alarm went off twice waking us up and we weren't told to exit the building. The pillows in the room were not good to sleep on and my partner woke up with a rash all over her legs.

The staff were all really friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were amazing. The location was great. I would stay again as the staff were so nice

Room service was awful, they got an order wrong and tried to make me pay for the wrong order, the requests sometimes didn’t arrive. The decor is tired and was a little shabby in places in the hotel room

A lovely quiet location

The room was very comfortable, but the tea/ coffee facilities were lacking. Instant coffee (yuck) and teacups that weren’t suited for left handed people and only held a small amount of liquid, barely enough to quench a thirst.

The hotel itself and breakfast was very good - the staff were very polite and always there to help

The rooms are looking a little tired well the one I was in was the bathroom upstairs was very dark and the shower was not the best

Really high quality feel about the place and some nice touches with free fruit and sweet platter in room. Staff very professional and approachable.

Pub and resturant was closed and they look 100 pound deposit which you should of told me about before booking

Really loved how stylish it was and the feel of history.

The bed was uncomfortable for me and the duvet was lumpy. the filling had areas that were empty and others that was a large lump. The bed had a thick topper but sleeping in it felt like it was hiding that the mattress had a dip in the middle.

The location was perfect for an event I was attending in the Barbican. Genuinely a 5 minute walk awayI was given access to the club lounge where I went for a drink and the member of staff in there( I’m sorry I’ve forgotten her name) was wonderful.

The route to my room was slightly complex either via outside in the cold or internally through quite unattractive corridors
