Nothing really positive to say about the hotel accommodations...
The room didn't have a bathroom in it. Did not know that when I booked the room. Never have I ever stayed in a hotel that didn't have bathrooms in the room.

The hotel is very quaint and designed in an old traditional Mexican style architecture and decor and even had a inner courtyard to sit and relax. The staff was very friendly. To top it off, it is very close to the main plaza, walking distance.

Top Tips
- Book 4-8 weeks before events like Charro Days in February, spring break (March-April), or SpaceX launches to secure the widest selection at major chains. Brownsville hotel rates often rise 15-25% during event periods. Confirm flexible cancellation when you reserve.
- Compare the final price at checkout, as Texas state and city occupancy taxes may add up to 17% plus resort or parking fees. Review your reservation summary to verify the breakdown before payment.
- At check-in, present a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport, along with your reservation confirmation. International travelers must show a valid passport or visa following U.S. entry requirements.
- Renting a car lets you reach South Padre Island (30-45 minutes by car) and Boca Chica Beach easily, since local transit runs limited routes, and rideshare coverage may vary after 21:00. Check car rental counter hours if arriving late.
- Ask if a complimentary shuttle runs to Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport (BRO), about 6 miles from downtown. If planning to cross the border, verify if long-term parking is available at no extra charge.
- If working remotely, confirm business amenities like high-speed Wi-Fi (often at least 50 Mbps), complimentary printing, or meeting room access before arrival.
- Families should request cribs or confirm connecting rooms early. Brownsville daytime highs average 90°F from May to September—choose a hotel with air conditioning and a year-round pool if needed.
- Plan to tip bell staff $15 per bag, valet attendants $15, and housekeeping $15 daily, per U.S. standards. Carry small bills for convenience.
- Solo guests can ask for a room on a higher floor or near elevators for added security. Use the in-room safe for valuables and check that parking areas are well-lit if arriving after dark.
- Texas hotels enforce non-smoking policies, with cleaning fines often above $250 for violations. Confirm pet fees ahead of time and ask if you can opt out of daily housekeeping services.
- Hurricane season in Brownsville runs June to November. Choose refundable rates or travel insurance for non-refundable bookings. Review the hotel's emergency procedures and cancellation policies before you travel.
- If crossing to Matamoros, Mexico, bring your passport or passport card and check U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) wait times online. Ask at your hotel about secure or valet parking during your absence.
- For local dining, request tips on Tex-Mex specialties like barbacoa or fresh Gulf seafood. Most hotels can assist with table reservations or arrange day trips to attractions such as Gladys Porter Zoo, located less than 2 miles from downtown.
- Ask about current cleaning protocols or mask requirements for your travel dates. The front desk can also direct you to the nearest 24-hour urgent care or pharmacy—often less than 2 miles from central hotels.
- Upon arrival, inspect your room for working air conditioning, plumbing, and Wi-Fi. Promptly report any maintenance or cleanliness issues within 30 minutes for faster response from hotel staff.
- To ensure a quieter stay, request a room away from highways like I-69E/US-77/83 or nightlife districts. Some hotels enforce quiet hours from 22:00 to 07:00—ask if noise sensitivity is a concern.
- Choose hotels near the Brownsville Walks Hike and Bike Trail or Resaca Greenway to enjoy green space within a 10-minute walk from several central properties.
- Travel to South Padre Island from Brownsville takes about 30-45 minutes by car. Some hotels offer seasonal shuttle service—confirm the schedule and cost before booking.
- Select your hotel based on proximity to your main destination: Historic Downtown (museums and markets), Gladys Porter Zoo (1.5 miles northwest), or South Padre Island access via Queen Isabella Causeway (around 30 minutes by car from town center).
