That it was surrounded by other conveniences such as restaurants, gas stations and even a Walgreens in such a rural area as Malone, NY.

There is nothing about this hotel that I liked at all. The staff was rude, and the facility had a very funky smell that was not aided by noxious chemicals being sprayed. There was also a small dog that barked all night long so I got absolutely zero sleep.
Cheaper than everyone else's.

Top Tips
- Book your hotel 2-3 months before peak season (June-September) to avoid 20-30% price surges. Expect rates under $100 USD per night instead of $120-$150 due to increased Adirondack hiking and festivals. Some festivals require minimum stays and cancellation policies may vary, so confirm when booking.
- Plan for 8-14% occupancy taxes. New York State adds 8% tax plus up to 6% local fees in Franklin County, so an $80 USD per night room can increase by $7-$11. Ask for an itemized bill at check-in or checkout to budget accurately.
- Confirm hotel Wi-Fi speeds (10-50 Mbps for remote work), especially during Adirondack storms when outages can last 1-2 hours. Properties near Main Street may offer more reliable service; ask if a business center is available as a backup.
- Request accessible rooms with step-free entry or elevator access in advance. Only 20-30% of Malone hotels in older buildings have these features. Call 1-2 weeks before arrival to confirm ADA arrangements and state any specific needs, such as visual alarms.
- Prepare for possible 2-4 hour power outages in January by packing backup chargers. Many hotels offer generators—check if heating systems remain operational during outages, as winter temperatures average -10°F.
- Choose hotels offering complimentary parking, like Holiday Inn Express Malone, to avoid nightly fees of $15 to $20. Free parking is valuable in winter weather or during longer stays. Ask about snow removal services if visiting in winter.
- Visit Malone in spring (April-May) or fall (September-October) for hotel rates of about $80-$120 per night and lighter crowds, making it easier to enjoy hiking and attractions. Look for scenic drives or seasonal events during these months.
- Select hotels with indoor pools, such as Comfort Inn Malone, to enjoy swimming year-round, especially for families during winter or rainy weather. Confirm current pool hours or reservation requirements before arrival.
- Book 3-6 months in advance for popular events like Malone Bluegrass Festival (July) and Winter Carnival (February) as rates can rise by up to 35%. Check festival schedules for changes before booking.
- Stay 2-3 miles from downtown Malone to save $15-$30 per night, since city center rooms cost 18-25% more. If you do not have a car, check for public transit or taxi availability to downtown.
- Request a renovated room when booking, as recent updates in many Malone hotels can mean a 10-15% improvement in comfort or decor at no extra charge. Availability is limited, so request early.
- Selecting hotels with complimentary hot breakfast can save $8-$12 per person each day, especially with limited dining options nearby. If you have dietary needs, notify staff before arrival.
- Explore Adirondack eco-lodges for a nature-focused stay, with nightly rates 5-12% lower than most conventional hotels. Confirm any special rules, such as quiet hours or shared facilities, before booking.
- Book your stay midweek, Tuesday to Thursday, for 20-30% discounts at Malone hotels, saving $40-$60 per night. Check rate calendars online to find the best deal.
- Avoid resort fees by choosing hotels outside downtown. Two downtown properties charge $15-$20 per night, while most motels near I-81, such as Malone Inn, do not. Verify all taxes and fees at booking.
- Bring a car charger if driving an EV—Malone has two public charging points, and most hotels lack on-site ports. Use apps like PlugShare in advance and check your charger's compatibility before arrival.
- During hunting season (late October-December), hotels near Adirondack access points may raise rates 25% or more. Book at least three months ahead. Confirm any hunting regulations or requirements affecting guests.
- Request a ground-floor room if mobility is a concern, as pre-1990 properties like Malone Motel may not have elevators. Inform the hotel if further accessibility features are required.
- Pay with cash at family-run lodges to avoid typical 3% card fees, which can save about $5 per night at independent motels. Request a receipt and check if advance notice is needed for cash payments.
- In budget motels, confirm winter heating reliability and ask if there are backup generators. Power outages are common in January (average lows -15°C/5°F), so consider bringing a small portable heater if sensitive to cold.
- Some local motels offer $10 to $20 cash discounts and help you avoid 3% or higher card fees. Confirm payment policies when reserving and ask about the discount in advance. Paying with cash may limit refund options or require extra ID.
- Choose rooms facing Adirondack Park for 15-20% better natural light. North or south views tend to offer more sunlight, while west-facing rooms may have more highway noise. Confirm window orientation and noise insulation if sensitive.
- Select chain hotels with free hot breakfast, available at about 50% of properties, to reduce daily food costs by $15-$25 per person. Guests with dietary restrictions should inform staff ahead of arrival.
- For safer night arrivals, avoid State Route 11B due to limited street lighting. Use GPS routing via US-11 for better visibility and check local road closure updates during winter.
- Request allergy-sensitive rooms with dust mite covers and hypoallergenic linens, available at most mid-range or higher-end hotels. Confirm at booking and consider bringing your own pillowcase or air purifier if very sensitive.
- Withdraw cash at Price Chopper ATMs for a $2 fee, instead of $4-$5 at hotels or gas stations. Some stores close overnight, so check hours, and carry small bills for local purchases.
- If remote work is essential, confirm internet speeds of at least 25 Mbps download, as Wi-Fi quality can vary. Ask the hotel for speed test results or check for wired connection options before arrival.
- Staying near major Adirondack Park access points, like Route 30 or Route 81, saves 15-20 minutes per trip to trailheads and outdoor activities. Check seasonal park opening dates before booking.
- Verify pet fee policies, which may be $25-$50 per pet nightly or a $75-$100 flat fee, and clarify any size or breed limits when reserving. Ask about nearby pet relief areas or pet-friendly parks.
- Hotels near Titusville offer walkable access to Malone's main restaurants and shops, while those outside town may require a vehicle. Highlight shuttle services if you do not have your own transportation.
- Confirm the type of heating in winter (November-March), such as forced air, radiators, or electric baseboards, as older systems may be less efficient or noisier. Bring earplugs or a white-noise app if sensitive to heating system sounds.
- When booking, check if hot breakfast is included. Some hotels only provide continental options or charge extra, which can add $8-$12 per person per day. Verify breakfast start times, especially if you need an early departure.
