The situation was further worsened by an unpleasant, damp odor pervading the area. Overall, our experience with this hotel was quite distressing and far from satisfactory.
The room was very comfortable as well as the bed. After traveling for two weeks, staying in hotels and Airbnbs, the shower was the best!! Roomy and good water pressure!!

It was very clean and the staff supper acomodating. I looove how friendly the breakfast staff was and how delicious, clean and neat everything was kept.
If ONLY they’d let us know that pool’s closed for maintenance. It was the ONLY reason why we’d pick that hotel. Sad.…
I liked being given a flower on Mother's Day. And I was very impressed that when we returned several days later, the front desk person recognized me and greeted me.

The only thing good about this place is it's location off the highway and close proximity to shopping, dining and Salem
This was a FEMA hotel. Way over priced. Dirty. Poor quality. Smelled of pot. Cigarette burn marks. Gum stuck to the towel racks in the bathroom. You kept everything on top of the chair so no bugs.

Staff, pool for the kids and I, basketball pickup game.
The fixings for breakfast were tasty. I liked that the rooms were big. Responded to needs, but I had to be the one to request- they did not offer. Thin walls. You will hear the road, so bring earplugs. Not a strong advocate for yourself? Don't go.

For us, the location works as well as any on Route 1, even though Rte 1 is generally inconvenient. Breakfast is excellent.

Top Tips
- Book your Wakefield hotel 2-3 months ahead for fall stays (September-October) to avoid 20-30% price surges during foliage tourism season; this timing can save you $15 to $30 USD per night. Check if your booking offers free cancellation, as many major chains in Wakefield allow changes up to 24 hours in advance.
- Factor in Massachusetts' 11.7% occupancy tax on Wakefield hotel stays, adding $15 to $20 USD per night to mid-range rooms. Use tax-inclusive booking platforms or check hotel official websites to confirm that the final price at checkout includes all mandatory fees.
- Choose hotels within 0.5-1 mile of Lake Quannapowitt for 15-20% lower noise levels compared to I-95 adjacent options, resulting in quieter stays and safer walking paths. Many hotels in this area offer rooms with lake views or access to walking trails; request a room facing away from the main road for the quietest experience.
- Verify Wi-Fi speeds are 50-100 Mbps for remote work; older properties near the town center may drop to 30 Mbps during peak hours, so request a speed test upon booking for video call reliability. If reliability is essential, ask about wired Ethernet availability or request a room close to the router or a common area.
- Request a heated room for winter stays (January-February) when average temperatures are 20-30°F, as some hotels may require supplementary heaters to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures of 68-72°F. Ask staff about extra blankets or in-room thermostats for precise temperature control; most major U.S. hotel chains meet these heating standards and offer accessibility accommodations on request.
- Use local bank ATMs in Wakefield during business hours to avoid $2-$3 USD fees per withdrawal charged by out-of-network machines, helping preserve your budget during extended stays. Major hotel chains may also offer ATMs onsite—check for in-network options, and choose well-lit ATMs inside bank branches or hotel lobbies for better safety and accessibility.
