Pros +
- The exquisite service
- Historic, great staff and room service... the location does not get better...warm and inviting.
- Location and friendly staff
Cons -
- Housekeeping had not made up my room or given me fresh towels by 1p in the afternoon when I returned from my day out. I had to call 3x and get aggravated to get someone there finally at 2:15. Everything else was outstanding
- hard to get a cup of coffee.
- Room service was atrocious - $16 for a microwave pizza. Room a little cramped with terrible view.

The atmosphere and attitude of the staff
We recently stayed one night at The Hay-Adams in Washington, DC, and it was an absolutely memorable experience for our Anniversary celebration to US. This historic hotel, right across from the White House, truly lives up to its reputation for elegance and exceptional service. From the moment we arrived, the staff's warm and helpful attitude stood out. The grand reception lobby is stunning, with its wonderful Italian Renaissance-inspired architecture, rich wood panelling, ornate details, and timeless charm that immediately transports you to a bygone era of sophistication. What made our stay special was the incredibly friendly front desk staff, particularly the Punjabi gentleman who greeted us in Hindi—it felt just like being back in India! His genuine warmth and easy conversation instantly made us feel at home and added a personal, comforting touch to the luxury surroundings. One of the highlights was a kind staff member who took the time to narrate the fascinating history of the Hay-Adams. He shared details about its namesakes—John Hay (Abraham Lincoln's private secretary and later Secretary of State) and Henry Adams (the renowned historian and descendant of two U.S. Presidents)—and how the hotel stands on the site of their former Gilded Age mansions. His storytelling brought the place to life.As the construction works were ongoing in the front park (Lafayette Square area), he generously allowed us to head up to the rooftop for photos of the White House. The panoramic view from up there is breathtaking—truly one of the best vantage points in the city.Location-wise, you couldn't ask for better: steps away from the White House and all the iconic sights. If you're looking for history, luxury, and heartfelt hospitality in the heart of DC, The Hay-Adams is unbeatable. 10/10 stars.

The staff, the room, the ambiance and the location.
The historic hotel was something to behold especially the culinary gems and great staff.
The squeeky floor of the guests above you does not make for a romantic or pleasant stay, especially with a five-star price tag.
room, staff friendliness, room service
room temperature - we could not adjust it and it felt too warm.
Their service was great! I expected that because I had stayed at this hotel, which is way I made a reservation again. Their hospitality was more than I expected! The concierge at the front desk, the handyman who came and fixed the AC issue, the lady who gave another water bottle, everyone, was amazing. I'll definitely stay at this hotel, again.
I don't have anything that I didn't like. If I have to add something, the window glasses might have been cleaned up more from outside because I expected a good view of the White House side. But it did not a big deal, actually.
Warm atmosphere in the hotel and comfort of the bed.Getting an early check into the room.
My room has no view, even though I tried but not provided by the reception.

Bad un-far deduction from my card
Very bad as my above floor was fully of maintenance and i cant sleep one night.
I like everything, especially the staff. They are very friendly, polite, and professional. They know exactly what their guests need. The location is excellent, and the room is comfortable and cozy.
They charged again even though...
I paid to booking.com, at my arrival I am requested to pay again, they said pay here later cancel from booking.com. If not they wouldn’t accept me to hotel. After second payment, I paid %25 higher than what I paid to booking.comOne of the worst experience I ever had at that level. Never trust 9.3 rating.
This location is surreal. Our room faced the White House
Nothing - it’s a beautiful place. It’s just hard to give full makes to a place for facilities when it’s old and quaint and doesn’t have a pool etc
The staff was courteous and kind and always a step ahead of us. And the location is perfection! I’ve stayed many places in DC, and it’s nice to not have to drive or cab. Walking in a city really changes the experience for the better, and we couldn’t have done that if we’d stayed elsewhere.

It is a most elegant hotel with very experienced, warm, professional staff. From the beautiful interiors to the turndown service to the gem of a bar it exceeded all expectations.
The location is unbearable. The staff were all wonderful. And I love a classic old hotel. Plus the beds were very comfortable and the room was quiet.
As much as I love a classic old hotel, this one really needs a refresh. But hopefully a sensitive one that respects what is great about it now. The phone system didn’t work and the bath faucet diverter didn’t work to turn the shower on. That was a ln unwelcome surprise in the morning.
Great location Very good staff
Breakfast quality substandard and too expensive for what it is
