Top Tips
- Book 6 to 12 weeks ahead for UC Davis commencement (mid-June) or major campus events, as hotel rates and occupancy can spike significantly, sometimes by $15 to $50 per night. Consider flexible cancellation policies at most chain hotels for added assurance.
- Use the Davis Amtrak (Capitol Corridor) for connections to Sacramento and Emeryville; the station is a 5- to 10-minute walk from downtown hotels and provides step-free access with elevators. Many hotels offer luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures by train.
- Select downtown hotels for immediate access to restaurants, shops, and the Amtrak station, with many offering complimentary breakfast, fitness centers, or business lounges. Hotels near Russell/Olive provide quicker walking access to core UC Davis campus facilities.
- Expect high bicycle use in Davis; bring a sturdy lock and confirm secure indoor bike parking or loaner locks with your hotel to minimize theft risk. Use designated bike lanes and check local helmet laws to stay compliant with California safety rules.
- Confirm hotel parking policies and any overnight permit requirements before arrival, as several Davis hotels have limited on-site parking or charge $15 to $20 per night in the downtown area. Guests with accessibility needs should request accessible parking in advance as required by California law.
- For late-night arrivals after 10 or 11 PM, arrange rideshare or a hotel-partnered taxi in advance, as local transit and campus bus services reduce frequency. Major hotels often provide 24-hour service partnerships, which is especially useful for families or travelers with mobility needs.
- Ask hotels about UC Davis conference or group rates, as many local properties offer academic or government discounts with proof of eligibility such as a university or agency ID. Always confirm cancellation or rebooking policies, since some special rates are prepaid or have limited flexibility.
