Pros +
- The pet friendly atmosphere and the location relative to downtown and the beach.
- The staff especially the bartender. The other guests and the social environment.
- Charming environment. The lobby/guest sitting area is more like a living room that people are attracted to and want to use. There is a welcoming fire in the fireplace.
Cons -
- very thin walls. Easy to hear other guests and hallway noise.
- It is an older place, so you need to be OK with room windows that let in some outside noise. Some rooms over the courtyard are situated just above a walkway to the courtyard that guests and staff use frequently. But the rooms are charming.
- somehow I missed the memo about parking. Need to call early as 7am to reserve parking. If missed reservation then find parking on the street which is very limited.

The location was fabulous and so was the exterior and interior of the historic hotel. My mistake was booking a room on the first floor. Although convenient , it was noisy due to the outside dining patio being right outside our door. Also, the bathroom was tiny between the sink and toilet~ no space for vanity items.
the place was pet friendly. restaurant onsite. location was great.

Just a heads up the toilet needs fixing in 201 - if you don’t lower the lever all the way down the water runs. The staff were lovely - especially the woman with short hair at front desk in the mornings (I think Kathleen is her name)
It’s a bit pricey per night is all
Location and history
No air conditioning. Breakfast not actually ready at 7
Unbeatable location right in the middle of town.Homey, welcoming atmosphere that quickly makes guests feel at home.Upscale fellow guests as judged by their quiet demeanor and friendly vibe.
Rooms are small. Noise insulation between guestrooms is poor, could hear a dog next door yapping constantly for an hour or more. If a hotel is determined to be pet-friendly, it should be proactive about suppressing annoyances. While walking down a corridor, I could easily hear and understand conversations taking place inside rooms.Mobile phone use should not be allowed in public areas. It lowers the tone of the hotel.
Excellent wide variety of food items, clean, pretty setting, staff very attentive, loved the popovers!
Bathroom small but it worked
Very nice, relaxed. Great as an included feature. Nice that the bar could fix an eye-opener
size of TV in room was very small. A minor nit.
the pop overs were hot out of the oven and amazing to have every morning with my coffee. The location is perfect and the entertainment at night on Friday and Saturday nights was spectacular. What a bonus to have that kind of fun and then be able to walk to our room.
We had never stayed at this hotel before just got a standard room for the two of us. The location of the room was pretty much in the worst location on the first floor directly across from public bathrooms. All night long we heard people going in an out of the bathrooms. And since the hallways are very small (I could touch each wall flat handed) the noise was quite loud. To make matters worse, the windows opened up to an ally way that the workers used to move around which meant we got noise from both directions of our tiny room. Next time I would request a better room.
Location in downtown CarmelDog friendlyNice, ‘normal’, friendly ( everyone smiles!)

Close to everything and good atmosphere
No refrigerator in room..room was hot at night
Friendly staff at the reception. We were also offered a blanket and bowls for our four-legged child. We always travel with our own pet supplies and I had no idea such a service would be provided - nice touch.I liked the overall vibe - with Doris Day movie posters everywhere, period music in the public areas, along with the period movies playing at the bar.
The room was not the best - facing the courtyard where the restaurant is. It was kind of noisy when we wanted to briefly relax after our drive before heading out to dinner.Breakfast is nothing to write home about.
Location and Full Breakfast Buffet
The bathroom was a bit small
Great loction. breakfast was ok. food was lukewarm. more seating inside would be a good idea.
The temp of the water in the shower fluctuated. the bed was comfortable and the sheets smelled fresh and clean.
Very friendly, helpful staff, from the front desk to the waitstaff. Great location!
Very little parking—had to park on the street and watch the two hour time limit ( which ended at 7 pm until 10 am) but still a pain. Quaint, old hotel so no thermostat in our room which was hot!!! Slept with the windows open even on a cold , foggy night.
Perfect, beautiful location close to everything that makes this town such a gem! And you can almost sense the presence of Doris Day and other iconic figures of the golden days of the ‘dream factory’. I won’t say any more – let it be a surprise...
Mostly everything. I’d only suggest that the management offer each guest a sleeping pillow. To me, as a frequent traveler and hotel guest, it is not essential, as I know that very few hotels in the USA offer their guests sleep pillows (as opposed to reading pillows) and I always bring my own.
Delicious. The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy and the pastries wonderful. Their sitting areas are charming and comfortable and the outside patio intimate and flower-filled. Lunch was great...try the chicken salad or veggie sandwich.
We didn’t have a view, but there were flowers outside our windows and good wooden blinds for privacy.
Location, location, location. Acceptance of pet. Friendly staff. Historical building.
Fixtures and furnishings a little tired. Time for a little face-lift :)
