The friendly and helpful staff
Usually IHG hotels are welcoming and helpful. It felt like we were an imposition starting with our rooms, for 2 adults and 3 children - booked 4 months earlier, were not made up with extra bed. Again, I've had flawless experiences with IHG elsewhere.

The staff are friendly and the rooms were clean, We were put in a smoking room which but they moved us immediately after I called the front desk. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was pricey but delicious! Rooftop bar/restaurant was wonderful!
The staff was great, and the location was ideal (only three metro stops from the airport and walking distance to a shopping center with a food court).

close to the airport and we needed to be so. If you want to be close to downtown Lisbon, this is not the place to be. However the neighborhood offers a few interesting things top do: shopping, aquarium, congress center, walk by the Tage.
Cleanness and location close to transportation
Our flight was delayed arriving to Lisbon but we were able to check in very late no problem. The rooms were very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the black-out curtains made me feel like I could have slept a million years after a long week of travel.

Large, clean room.
Room was large and quiet and it had a balcony which had a view of the city. Hotel is near subway and close enough to the airport that an Uber was remarkably cheap.

Nice large room with a huge window!
It was a good price for a last minute booking. The entrance is beautiful but everything else is average. This should be a 3 star hotel, definitely not 4 as advertised. The staff was nice but lacked some basic amenities such as an iron or weigh machine.

Top Tips
- Rates at Lisbon hotels rise by 15-25% in spring to early summer and during major events like Web Summit (November). Book 2-3 months in advance to unlock wider room selection and lower prices. Tip: Set price alerts to track changes for your dates.
- Compare hotel-direct prices with Online Travel Agencies. Many Lisbon properties offer perks like complimentary breakfast, late checkout, or airport shuttle when booking direct. Confirm the value of in-house benefits before reserving.
- Scan reviews from the past 3 months for details on noise, cleanliness, and air conditioning. Older buildings in central Lisbon often have narrow staircases or limited elevator service; recent reviews surface these issues.
- Lisbon’s Metro Red Line (Aeroporto station) reaches downtown in about 20 minutes and costs €1.80. Aerobus offers direct routes with luggage space; ride-hailing services like Uber and Bolt typically undercut taxi fares (€10-15 to city center, plus surcharge for taxis).
- Purchase a Viva Viagem reused transit card at the airport Metro for €0.50; single journeys are €1.80, and 24-hour passes are available. Using the card saves €0.50-1.50 per ride compared to cash fares.
- For arrivals after 23:00 or before 06:00, confirm 24-hour reception and request late check-in in writing. Hotels near Humberto Delgado Airport offer day-use rates (typically 4-8 hours) and are accessible within 1-2 km.
- Portuguese law requires valid ID at check-in—passport for non-EU guests or EU-issued national ID. Staff must photograph or record your information for authorities; keep your document accessible.
- Lisbon’s municipal tax applies: about €2 per guest nightly, for up to 7 nights, collected at check-in. Most hotels accept credit cards; small guesthouses may only take cash—confirm payment options ahead.
- Older Lisbon hotels often lack central AC or soundproofing; ask about air conditioning, street exposure, and quiet room options before booking. Nightlife can run past 02:00 in Bairro Alto and Chiado; request a back-facing or upper-level room for quieter stays.
- Central street parking costs €1-2 per hour; hotel parking is typically €15-25 per night. If you need parking or EV charging, verify both availability and rates directly with the hotel in advance.
- If working during your stay, confirm Wi-Fi speed and reliability—most hotels offer 50 Mbps or higher. Business centers and meeting rooms are standard at 4-star chains; check breakfast hours if you have early calls.
- Tipping isn’t expected but is welcome: €1-2 for housekeeping per night, €1-2 per bag for porters, and 5-10% for restaurants with table service. Use cash, as gratuities are not usually added electronically.
- Simple Portuguese greetings—"Bom dia" (good morning), "Boa tarde" (good afternoon), and "Obrigado/Obrigada" (thank you)—are appreciated in Lisbon hotels. Staff respond warmly to basic efforts in the local language.
- Quiet hours in residential Lisbon often start at 22:00. Limit noise in hotel halls and on balconies, especially in shared properties, out of respect for neighbors.
- Pickpocketing can occur on trams, trains, and crowded tourist streets. Use hotel room safes for passports and valuables, and carry only essentials when sightseeing.
- The emergency number in Portugal is 112. EU/EEA visitors should carry the EHIC or GHIC for public care access; non-EU travelers need private travel coverage. Verify your insurance details before arrival.
- Tap water in Lisbon is safe for drinking. Most hotels provide complimentary bottled water on arrival, but refills are not always offered. Use a reusable bottle for convenience and sustainability.
- Hotel concierges can secure tables at hard-to-book fado venues or top Lisbon eateries, and reserve tram tickets for you. Ask about in-demand events needing advance booking.
- Most hotels and hostels near Humberto Delgado Airport offer luggage storage and day-use rates for layovers or late departures. Confirm storage fees and allowed duration before arrival.
- Lisbon neighborhoods vary: Baixa/Chiado situate you 750 m from major sights; Alfama is 5-10 minutes on foot to fado clubs; Bairro Alto nightlife runs until 02:00 and is lively. Avenida da Liberdade features luxury brands and is 15 minutes by cab from airport.
- Many Lisbon hotels offer rooftop bars or terraces with city or river views, often open 17:00-23:00. Enjoy sunset cocktails or a quieter breakfast above street level; confirm hours at check-in.
- Lisbon’s hilly terrain and cobblestone lanes can be challenging with baggage, strollers, or limited mobility. Choose hotels offering elevators, visual or audible accessibility features, or step-free access, and request accessible rooms if needed.
- Sample local food without leaving the hotel: many properties serve pastéis de nata at breakfast or partner with nearby bakeries. Concierge can direct you to authentic tascas (local eateries) or reserve fado dinner experiences.
- Solo travelers should select central hotels near Metro lines and 24-hour reception. Staff can recommend safe walking routes and small-group walking tours for meeting other travelers.
- Families can request interconnected or larger family rooms, cribs, and kitchenettes. Ask about children’s breakfast options and extra safety features, such as window guards or outlet covers.
- Business travelers: request a room on a quiet floor, early breakfast (from 06:30 at many chains), meeting facilities, and a detailed invoice for VAT refunds. Confirm travel time to your meeting venues to avoid delays during morning traffic.
- Request confirmation of check-in/out times, airport shuttle availability, current tax policy, and any special needs (crib, high floor, accessible room) in writing before arrival. Keep a copy of your hotel’s Portuguese address for taxi or rideshare drivers.
