Top Tips
- Buy your Shenandoah National Park vehicle pass ($30 per car for 7 days) online or at the gate, as hotel stays do not cover entrance. Retain your receipt for re-entry, and note that children under 16 are admitted free with an adult.
- Choose hotels on or near Main Street in Luray to save 5-10 minutes driving to Luray Caverns and improve your chance of finding parking during peak hours. Most area sidewalks are wheelchair-friendly; verify in advance if you require step-free access.
- Reserve hotels 30-60 days ahead for mid-October (fall foliage) or summer holiday weekends to avoid high rates and sold-out dates; Luray rooms are limited. Check if your chosen hotel offers free cancellation for added flexibility.
- When reserving historic Luray B&Bs, confirm ground-floor or elevator-equipped rooms in advance, as many Victorian inns require stairs. For step-free access or accessible rooms, communicate your requirements clearly during booking.
- Many Luray restaurants close by 9-10 PM. If you’ll arrive late, consider a hotel with a kitchenette, 24-hour snack bar, or plan to stop at Food Lion (the local supermarket) before check-in.
- Download offline maps in advance of driving Skyline Drive, as cell signal is often unavailable. For remote work, test hotel Wi-Fi speed at check-in, and ask the front desk for printed local directions if needed.
- Most Luray hotels provide free on-site parking for standard vehicles. For RV or oversized vehicles, call ahead, as spaces are limited and may not be available on site. Alternative public lots for oversized vehicles may be found in central Luray; confirm locations with hotel staff.
- Ask about pet fees and restrictions up front, as many motels allow pets for an additional nightly charge, with size and number limits. Service animals are exempt from pet fees by law; verify requirements when booking.
