Learn about the top neighbourhoods of Boston
Copley Square makes a good compass for exploring the Back Bay area and serves as the home of the monumental Boston Public Library. A few blocks north are eclectic shopping enclaves like Newbury Street, while to the south of the library sits the glittering Copley Place shopping mall. Look up to see the city's emblematic towers, including the John Hancock Building and Prudential Center. Amtrak's Back Bay Station is here, and Boston Logan International Airport is about 15 minutes northeast.
A few blocks from downtown Boston and the Financial District, this gorgeous area includes Boston's two main parks - Boston Common and the Public Garden, whose lake is a guaranteed family pleaser with its Swan Boats and actual swans. Just south of the parks is Boston's highly acclaimed theater district (also noted for its world-class dining), while to the southeast is one of the oldest and most colorful Chinatowns in the country.
Whether it's shopping at the bustling market of Faneuil Hall, hiking the Freedom Trail to historic sites like the Paul Revere House, or taking the kids to the New England Aquarium, this is the Boston most people come to see. Breathtaking Boston Harbor is a great place for strolling or hopping aboard a ferry for unforgettable views of the skyline. Just across the harbor is Boston Logan International Airport, reachable in minutes via taxi, water taxi or subway.

Frequently Asked Questions
Top Tips
- Ride the MBTA Silver Line (SL1) from Logan Airport to South Station for a 20-25 minute journey, avoiding rush hour traffic common on I-90/I-93. Business-class hotels at South Station often allow early check-in or easy luggage drop-off so you can explore the city right away. Purchasing a reloadable MBTA CharlieCard at the airport can also speed up SL1 boarding.
- Book hotels 60-90 days in advance for events like Patriots’ Day/Boston Marathon or university graduations because rates often rise sharply, sometimes doubling during these periods. Join a hotel loyalty program ahead of time for priority rates or flexible cancellation. International guests should confirm any travel or visa requirements around event dates.
- Compare hotels in Cambridge (Kendall/Harvard) or Fenway for lower rates and a 10-20 minute transit ride to Back Bay or the Financial District via the Red or Green Line, which can undercut downtown weekday business rates. These areas often offer included breakfast or fitness centers and have MBTA access until late, supporting arrivals at various hours.
- Budget for hotel parking, expecting $40-$75 per night for downtown valet or garage service. Check for hotels with onsite parking or validated partner garages to reduce costs. Street parking in Boston is frequently limited or residents-only.
- Confirm step-free or elevator access when booking boutique historic hotels in Beacon Hill and Back Bay by requesting an 'ADA / step-free room' or calling before arrival. Guests needing visual alarms or communication accessibility should ask in advance. Historic areas may have sidewalk navigation challenges, so hotel staff can advise on accessible routes.
- Choose business-class or chain hotels in Seaport and Back Bay for reliable Wi-Fi and in-room workspaces, as most advertise this for video calls. Major hotels usually provide onsite business centers for printing or meetings and support late-night check-ins for delayed flights.
- Request a room facing away from the waterfront in Seaport to reduce noise from construction or concerts, especially June to September. For added quiet, ask for an upper-floor room or use a hotel-supplied white noise machine.
- Use the Massport taxi lines at Logan Airport for regulated fares and pooled queuing to avoid unlicensed pickups. Rideshare surge pricing from Logan to downtown can exceed typical taxi fares at peak times. Hotel concierges can help pre-book taxis or check rideshare wait times for added convenience or when accessibility support is needed.
- Book directly with major hotel chains (Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt) for loyalty perks and room guarantees, since elite benefits are honored more reliably for direct bookings. Many brand apps offer expedited check-in and digital keys, with upgrade offers sometimes available in real time.
- Bring a refillable water bottle since Boston's municipal tap water is safe to drink and hotels rarely restrict its use. Many properties provide filtered water stations in fitness centers or lobbies for guest convenience and sustainability.
