I arrived at the hotel and the receptionist was not friendly at all, they charged me a $105 deposit and I didn't know I had to pay it, she told me it was refundable and they still haven't given it back to me.

Was quiet and clean room. Great staff and needed a reservation at last minute.

Nothing. It was not very good.
Front desk staff was very personable. Also, the location was close to main interstate and highways.
Room was dirty, sheets were dirty. Door had large gap that let freezing air in all night. No sound proofing, so you will hear your neighbors belching, taking a dump, and banging each other all night. Charged us an unexpected deposit.

The location was great for what we had to get done in Louisville. The room was great for the early morning view of horses galloping on the training track. The casino was not unbearably cold like most tend to be. The restaurant selection is nice.

Where to stay in Louisville
Learn about the top neighbourhoods of Louisville
Fronting the Ohio River, this area's impressive skyline is studded with buildings designed by world-class architects like Welton Becket and Michael Graves. This is the city's central business district, so it's no surprise that it's home to the Kentucky International Convention Center. Close to the waterfront is the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, identifiable by the massive baseball bat standing outside. To the south is the Speed Art Museum, one of the many attractions along Museum Row. Louisville International Airport is a short drive south.
The sprawling Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center sits at the heart of this action-packed area that starts at the northern end of the Louisville International Airport and encompasses a portion of the University of Louisville campus. Catch a football game at the university's Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, or find thrills and spills at the family-favorite Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay.
The University of Louisville's Shelby campus runs along the western border of this area, which sits about 20 minutes from the heart of Louisville and 30 minutes from Churchill Downs. Just north of this area, the nearby E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park features scenic trails, while shopping enthusiasts find themselves within a short drive of a handful of nearby retail centers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Top Tips
- Central Louisville hotel rates for the Kentucky Derby (first Saturday in May) typically surge 50-100% and nearby properties often sell out 6-12 months in advance. Secure your preferred room by booking as early as possible. Confirm cancellation flexibility if booking far ahead to manage travel changes.
- Louisville Muhammad Ali International (SDF) sits 6-7 miles (15-25 minute drive) from downtown and major hotels. Take advantage of free airport shuttles from select hotel chains, but always verify shuttle hours before arrival. For late flights, request shuttle details for after-hours service.
- For events at KFC Yum! Center, staying within 0.2-0.6 miles (5-12 minute walk) in the 4th Street or Veterans area helps you avoid event congestion and rideshare surge pricing. Confirm on-site amenities, such as 24h reception or accessible entry, for busy event nights.
- Downtown Louisville hotels generally charge for on-site parking, ranging from $15-40 per night for valet or garage service. Municipal lots nearby often cost $15-25 per day. Explore hotel loyalty program benefits that may offer discount parking or bundled packages.
- Historic hotels like The Brown offer limited step-free access; request accessible rooms and written confirmation of elevator or ramp details to guarantee your needs are met. Ask about visual alarms or additional accessibility features to ensure a comfortable stay.
- July humidity is high in Louisville, with average highs around 87°F (31°C). Ensure your room has a working thermostat and inquire about portable AC or fans in heritage properties. For added comfort, consider using the hotel’s pool or shaded communal areas.
- Choose your Louisville neighborhood by interest: NuLu (East Market, 0.5-1.0 miles from downtown) features boutique shopping, while Butchertown (10-20 minutes northeast) is home to top-rated restaurants. Many top hotels provide concierge guidance for local dining and shopping options.
- Downtown travel is easiest via TARC buses, though services thin out late evening; rideshares are more reliable after dark, especially during festivals when surge pricing may apply. Request a paper transit map at hotel front desks for multi-day stays.
- Major Louisville events like Thunder Over Louisville and Forecastle bring heavy crowds and noise to the riverfront. If noise sensitivity is a concern, ask hotels in advance about their quiet-zone or high-floor room options, or search for locations outside the immediate event zone.
