Top Tips
- Book within 2-3 miles of UC Anschutz to keep drive times for hospital visits to 5-15 minutes (compared with 20-45+ minutes from south or central Aurora). Major chains like Hyatt, Marriott, and Hilton operate in this radius, providing a wide selection. When traveling for patient care, confirm early check-in and flexible cancellation policies before booking.
- Choose Gaylord Rockies or hotels on Peña Blvd for airport proximity. These options typically reduce travel to Denver International Airport to 10-20 minutes during off-peak times. Many hotels in this area offer complimentary airport shuttles; verify shuttle schedules if traveling late at night.
- If your route includes the E-470 tollway to the airport or Peña-area hotels, be aware that this toll road uses cashless payment and per-trip charges apply if your rental car lacks a toll account. Ask your rental company if transponder fees are included, or prepare for toll billing after your trip.
- South Aurora neighborhoods like Southlands and Iliff offer lower midscale chain rates and ample free or inexpensive parking, compared to downtown Denver, often saving $15 to $25 per night. Compare rates and parking amenities before booking to maximize value.
- For large conventions at Gaylord Rockies, book 60-120+ days ahead, as events can limit local availability and increase rates. Request the official event room block to access possible discounted rates and cancellation terms.
- Aurora sits at 5,200-5,500 ft elevation. Mild altitude effects like headache and dehydration are common in the first 24-48 hours for new arrivals. Many hotels provide complimentary water and offer fitness amenities; stay hydrated and rest as needed.
- If you need step-free access, accessible rooms, or bedside medical equipment while staying near Anschutz, confirm with the hotel’s front desk about public entrances, ramps, and room features before your trip. Most major chains in Aurora meet ADA guidelines, but amenities can vary—verification recommended.
