Good location
Nothing! Even the view from the balcony, was spoiled by the street noise from the balcony,as the balcony doors barely latched to close. The hotel was old and very poorly maintained. Very overpiced!! Did NOT deserve 1/4 rth of what we paid!

The balcony because of the view of the miderterranian sea, but to be honest I could have gotten that at another hotel for a much cheaper price.

The roof breakfast with the view of the eastern harbor. Also the location in the city center.
The hotel help staff are nice. The front desk could be better about their promptness to client needs. From the moment you enter the lobby, you feel you have stepped back in time. The breakfast was great w/ lots of variety.

Top Tips
- Factor in mandatory charges: expect a 12.5% municipal tax and a 10% service charge added to quoted hotel rates, which apply to all hotel categories in Egypt. A room listed at EGP 5,000 per night will total EGP 6,125. Verify the full cost with your hotel before booking to avoid surprises.
- Book waterfront hotels 6-8 weeks ahead for July-August peak season to lock in rates, as prices can rise 35-50% with less than four weeks' notice. Check for local holidays and festivals, which may also increase demand, and ask about members-only or advance booking discounts for potential savings.
- Always decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when paying at hotel front desks, since markups add 4-7% versus paying in Egyptian Pounds (EGP) with a no-foreign-fee card. Choosing local EGP reduces fees, helps avoid checkout disputes, and both Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted.
- Select hotels in Smouha or Gleem for lower night-time street noise—these districts average 52-58 dB, about 10-18 dB quieter than Sidi Gaber close to railway and Corniche traffic. Many top hotels now offer upgraded double-glazed windows or soundproof rooms; inquire about these for extra comfort.
- Confirm backup generator coverage for both guest rooms and coworking spaces if working remotely. About 15-20% of central Alexandria hotels experience monthly summer outages, but properties like Four Seasons San Stefano typically maintain 24/7 generator uptime. Note that generator use may impact sustainability efforts.
- Use ATMs located inside major banks (such as CIB, Banque Misr) or within hotel lobbies to reduce card skimming risk. Skimming is up to three times higher at standalone kiosks near tourist areas, while bank-secured and onsite hotel ATMs have an incident rate below 0.5%.
- Request step-free access specifically when booking, since fewer than one in four mid-tier and budget hotels in Alexandria offer elevators. Specify all accessibility needs, such as ramp access, ground-floor rooms, visual alarms, or accessible bathrooms, by phone even if an elevator is present.
- Tip 10-15% at hotel restaurants based on the pre-DCC bill total. Cash in EGP is welcomed, and bar staff and cleaners also appreciate similar gratuities. Service staff depend on tips due to low base wages, so avoid over-tipping on DCC-inflated bills.
- Choose hotels with water-recycling systems when visiting in summer (May-September), as these properties help Alexandria manage seasonal water stress. Treated graywater irrigation allows gardens to thrive without drawing from municipal supplies.
- Anticipate 80-120 Mbps Wi-Fi download speeds in international-branded hotels, with uploads averaging 45-55 Mbps—enough for video calls. Check with the front desk if you need speed guarantees for streaming or remote work; some hotels provide complimentary business center access.
- Avoid Corniche-facing rooms from 7-9 AM and 6-9 PM, when main Corniche road noise spikes 15-20 dB. Request rear-facing or higher-floor rooms for a 60-75% noise reduction; some hotels also offer soundproof rooms or white-noise machines on request.
- Check if tap water is filtered for in-room drinking—municipal supply is chlorinated but can be inconsistent. About 68% of 4- and 5-star hotels provide filtered or bottled water, yet only 30% state this when booking, so confirm at check-in if daily water or additional bottles are included.
