Location to busses into the city were just a short walk. Felt very safe even walking at night
It was secure and the location was good for the price.
Manager was very pleasant, and I sense he knows he has the dubious honor of managing a declining hotel. Location is decent, towards the west end of Edinburgh, a short taxi or Uber ride or a good long walk to things of note like food and drink.

After an 8 hour drive to arrive here, hotel said they didn¿t have a room for us despite having made the reservation months before. It was obvious that they had oversold as they told the family in line ahead of us the same thing.

I chose this hotel because it was close to a friend's house and at the end of town closest to the airport. It was a very basic hotel (3 stars) however, it was very clean and felt safe. I did not have any food or beverage there. I was only there 1 night

Top Tips
- Book 3–6 months ahead for August and late December stays, as hotel rates can surge 50–200% during the Edinburgh Festivals (late July to August) and Hogmanay (December 31). Occupancy approaches 100% at these times, so early booking increases your options. Check hotel cancellation policies, as some offer flexible terms during high-demand periods.
- Consider hotels in Haymarket or West End for better value. These neighborhoods are about 1.6 km (1 mi) west of Waverley Station and are typically 10–30% less expensive than Royal Mile hotels at similar star levels. Major hotel brands here often include onsite dining and accessible transport links to city attractions.
- Use Edinburgh Trams for cost-effective airport transfers. A single tram fare from the city to the airport costs approximately £6.50 (about $8 USD) and takes 30–35 minutes; services run every 7–10 minutes off-peak. All Edinburgh Trams are step-free for baggage and wheelchair access. Private taxis typically cost £25–£35 (about $31–$44 USD).
- Request a ground-floor or lift-accessible room when booking historic hotels. Many central hotels in Edinburgh are in listed Georgian or Old Town buildings that have steps and limited lifts; accessible rooms are limited, so reserve well ahead and get written confirmation 2–4 weeks before arrival. Ask about visual alarms or accessible bathrooms if you need specific accommodations.
- Always choose to pay in GBP (British Pounds) to avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fees. The UK contactless payment limit is up to £100 (about $125 USD) per transaction, and most hotels and shops accept contactless and chip-and-PIN payments. Confirm with staff if you have questions about payment methods; many hotels also accept major mobile wallets.
- Pack a universal adapter for UK Type G sockets. Hotels use UK Type G sockets (230 V); while some newer city hotels include USB-A or USB-C ports, many B&Bs do not, so bring a compact Type G plus USB adapter. Some hotels offer adapters at reception—ask in advance if you wish to borrow one.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speed if you plan to work remotely. Hotel Wi-Fi can become congested during August festival evenings. If you require consistent speeds of 10–20 Mbps or higher, request the advertised download/upload speeds or book a hotel chain room with 'business' or paid-fast Wi-Fi. Request a room near business centers or quiet areas for improved comfort.
- Be aware of customary service charges in hospitality. Restaurants and hotel bills may add a discretionary service charge of 10–12.5%; if service is not included, tipping 10–15% is standard. Tip porters about £1–2 (about $1.25–$2.50 USD) per bag. If unsure whether service is included, ask staff before adding tips.
- For special requests such as accessible rooms or strict allergy needs, book directly with the hotel. Third-party bookings can sometimes create challenges with special-request fulfillment; booking direct lets you ask for written confirmation. Email your request and keep confirmation on hand at check-in for reference.
- Opt for courtyard- or west-facing rooms to minimize street noise. Rooms facing the Royal Mile or Princes Street can encounter 10–25 dB higher nighttime noise due to crowds and buses; requesting courtyard or side-street rooms or higher floors helps reduce this. Some hotels list room orientation on the booking page or can advise at check-in.
- Look for Green Tourism or Green Key certification for verified eco-friendly practices. Many Scottish hotels display these badges to confirm sustainability initiatives; do not rely solely on vague 'eco' wording. Ask reception for details about specific green practices on arrival.
