The front desk staff and our breakfast waitress. They were all personable, warm and friendly.
The staff, the rooms should have a higher rating as it's a wonderful place to stay!

Location. Was convenience for me.
This was not up to Courtyard standards at all. This was more like a cheap Motel. It was not clean, not in good condition, the walls are like paper, and the area did not feel safe at all. I¿m sorry, but I do not recommend staying there at all.

My experience changed drastically once staff put me in a non-smoking room to the back of the building. It was quiet and the room & linen was super clean compared to the smoking side. If you book for nonsmoking just make sure to clarify at checkin.

Top Tips
- Book hotels in Richmond's downtown area during the off-season (December to February) to find rates 15-25% lower, typically $120-$180 USD per night. Compare rates across weekdays for extra savings during low season.
- Book 30-60 days ahead for events like VCU commencement or Richmond Raceway races to avoid 25-100% rate increases. For high-demand dates, review options in alternative neighborhoods such as Scott’s Addition if central hotels sell out.
- Choose hotels in The Fan District for walkable access to historic sites and museums, as crime rates here are 15% below the city average. Notable hotels include chains such as Marriott and boutique properties; select based on your preferred brand.
- Opt for hotels advertising 50-100 Mbps Wi-Fi speeds for reliable remote work, which is common in downtown chains. Ask hotel staff for upgraded Wi-Fi access if you have special connectivity needs.
- Expect an additional 14.5% occupancy tax on hotel bills in Richmond; factor this into your budget to prevent a 15-25% total cost increase. This tax applies to both hotels and most short-term rentals citywide.
- Downtown Richmond hotel parking commonly adds $20-$45 USD per night. Parking fees may vary by property type (hotel garage or public lot) and some hotels offer onsite EV charging.
- Scott’s Addition, located 0.5-1.5 miles northwest of downtown, concentrates breweries and evening dining, making it ideal for walkable restaurant and brewery circuits. Check individual venues in the area for ADA-accessible entrances.
- Richmond city water is treated and safe to drink from taps; bottled water is usually for taste only. If you have specific health needs, confirm with your hotel regarding in-room water filtration.
- Standard US tipping amounts apply locally: bellhops $1-$2 USD per bag, housekeeping $3-$5 USD per day, and 15-20% for full-service dining or room service. You can decline services without obligation, and check if service charges are already included on your bill.
- Use rideshare apps after late-night events for broader coverage and fixed receipts. At peak times, expect 10-30 minute waits and dynamic price multipliers; check if your hotel offers a complimentary shuttle for airport or major event transit.
- In summer months (June-August, averaging 85-95°F with 70% humidity), insist on rooms with efficient AC systems rated for quick cooling to avoid 5-10°F indoor spikes. If AC underperforms, request maintenance or ask to change rooms.
- Ask hotels in Scott’s Addition about room delivery for brewery runs and refrigeration, as many converted warehouses may not have minibars but will honor fridge requests. Standard chain hotels are more likely to provide in-room refrigerators.
- Choose from the 80-90% of major Richmond hotels with ADA-compliant step-free access; request additional features like ramps, visual alarms, or accessible bathrooms in advance via booking platforms.
