Top Tips
- Book 60-90 days ahead for Memphis in May (May) and Elvis anniversary dates (January 8, August 16). Rates can double during these events. Planning early offers a wider selection and more options for accessible or hypoallergenic rooms.
- The drive from Memphis International Airport (MEM) to downtown typically takes 20-30 minutes (about 10-12 miles). Rideshare fares often range from $20-$35 USD. Consider arranging a hotel shuttle or confirming accessible transit in advance.
- Rooms above the 4th floor or facing away from Beale Street experience less late-night noise, since local music venues operate until 2:00 AM. Sensitive sleepers should request this preference when booking or at check-in.
- Most downtown hotels charge $20-$35 USD per day for parking or valet. Midtown and Cooper-Young areas often have free or lower-cost options - verify hotel parking policies and accessible space availability before arrival.
- Choose your hotel area based on your plans: Downtown for walkable access to Beale Street attractions, Midtown/Cooper-Young for independent restaurants, or East Memphis for hospitals and offices. East Memphis hotels may save 10-25 minutes on local transit. Ask about onsite amenities like fitness centers or accessible room features by location.
- For early or late flights, confirm your hotel's shuttle schedule and reserve in advance if needed; shuttles may run limited hours or by request only. Otherwise, budget for a taxi or rideshare, as peak times can affect costs and wait times.
- Memphis tap water is safe to drink, and hotels typically offer filtered water onsite. If you need a fragrance-free or hypoallergenic room, confirm availability before arrival since standards vary among hotel brands.
- Plan 20-30 minutes to travel from downtown or central hotels to Graceland (about 7-9 miles south). Traffic can increase drive time during peak season. Pre-book house tour tickets to minimize wait and check for hotel packages that include shuttle service.
- For St. Jude events and major races, hotels can sell out within 30-60 days of event dates. Review cancellation policies closely if your trip depends on weather or medical needs.
