It was beautifully decorated, quiet and private. The staff was amazing and helpful. Location is great - close to 'downtown' but far enough away to feel like you're on an island. Golf carts across street to rent. Parking available too, which was great.

Top Tips
- Book lakefront accommodations 4-6 months before July and August, as these rooms sell out 5-7 weeks earlier than inland options. Last-minute availability is typically limited inland. Expect nightly rates to be 60-80% higher during peak season compared to May or September. Compare shoulder season and peak pricing before booking.
- Consider stays in May or September to avoid 35-50% event-driven price surges. Weekend festival rates can reach $275-$399 per night, while off-peak rates average $179-$249. Booking 90 or more days before major events can reduce price surges by about 70%. Check festival schedules before confirming your travel dates.
- Confirm shuttle availability from ferry docks when booking inland hotels, as 70% of properties off Bayview and Catawba roads lack shuttles, leaving guests an 18-22 minute walk with luggage. Hotels with accessible shuttles can reduce transfer times to under 5 minutes; verify whether step-free boarding is available if needed.
- Pay by credit card at check-in to bypass the $20-$35 cash deposit required by about 60% of motels for incidentals. Credit card holds are released after your stay if there is no damage or extra charges. Request a receipt showing the hold release at checkout.
- Choose properties with 24/7 front desk access during summer months, as 12 of 28 motels close by 10 PM and 40% of reported entry issues occur after 9 PM. If arriving late, inform the hotel in advance to receive entry instructions.
- Use the Miller Ferry or Jitney Ferry for economical vehicle transport: $1.50 per person plus $2.25 per foot for vehicles (typically $35-$55 for a sedan one way). The Jet Express charges $15-$22 per person one way and only carries passengers, so island taxis or rentals are needed ($25-$40 per trip). Check ferry and shuttle schedules before arriving, especially late in the day.
- Request an upper-floor lake-facing room to minimize bar noise from the Fair Street corridor. Sound levels on ground floors near clubs can exceed 65 dB at 10 PM, while upper-floor lake-facing rooms experience roughly 40% less noise. For additional quiet, ask about rooms away from elevators or stairwells.
- Check if your hotel includes free mainland parking, as 14 of 22 lakefront properties provide it while others may charge $12-$15 per day. Self-parking at the Miller Ferry lot costs $8 per day and requires weekend reservations. Confirm parking type and rates before arriving.
- Prioritize ENERGY STAR or Ohio Green Lodging-certified properties, which reduce single-use plastic by around 30% and track water usage. The island relies on groundwater, and certified hotels average 55 gallons per person daily compared to 88 on the mainland. Review the hotel's green policy before booking and ask reception about refill stations and conservation efforts.
- Avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion on credit card payments, as on-island terminals may prompt USD to CAD/EUR conversion. Choosing USD can save 3-5% in fees. If prompted, confirm the total before authorizing and request a receipt in your preferred currency.
- Full-service hotels typically offer Wi-Fi speeds of 50-75 Mbps, while motels average 25-35 Mbps. Older motels may see 20-30% speed drops during festival weekends. If you need strong Internet for video calls, ask the front desk about current speeds or request a speed check at check-in.
- Carry a reusable water bottle; island tap water meets EPA standards, but 90% of bars and restaurants serve bottled water only. Free refill stations are located at Put-in-Bay Town Park and Perry’s Cave. Check for additional refill stations at hotels or beaches.
