Location. Near the highway and lots of restaurants and shopping, yet it was tucked away in quiet area off the main streets. I really liked the bathroom mirror with the makeup lighting all around. You don't see that in many hotels.

Top Tips
- Book hotel rooms 6 to 8 weeks before July 4 or Kings Island seasonal openings. Rates typically rise 35-50% during these periods, so booking 45-60 days in advance helps secure baseline rates. Use the hotel's official calendar or local event schedules to plan.
- Hotels north of I-71 often cost 15-20% less. Summit/Paramount District properties average $139-$169 per night, compared to $189+ south of I-71. These northern hotels offer walkable access to free weekly events at Summit Park. Compare rates for your dates to maximize value.
- Avoid nightly resort charges by selecting locally managed or boutique properties. Major chains such as Marriott and Hilton typically add $15-$25 per night, while independents like The Alexander do not. Check the fee details in the booking summary before confirming.
- If working remotely, verify the hotel's Wi-Fi speed. Most business hotels in Mason provide 50-75 Mbps; Homewood Suites and Embassy Suites typically report 65-75 Mbps. Steer clear of older Fairfield Inn locations, which may only offer sub-40 Mbps speeds.
- Request accessible or step-free rooms early, as Mason hotels average only 1-2 per property and just 40% display these rooms online. Call directly to confirm roll-in showers and a minimum 32 inch doorway width to ensure accessibility.
- When using non-US credit cards, decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) if prompted at checkout. Some Ohio hotels using Worldline or Stripe terminals offer DCC, adding an average 4.2% spread. Choose to pay in US dollars to avoid unnecessary card fees.
- Use Mason’s municipal parking to avoid hotel event rates of $12-$18 per day during concerts or festivals. Hotel lots near Kings Island or the Bunbury Music Festival charge $15-$18 nightly, but free public lots, like Heritage Plaza (within 0.5 mi), are usually available. Check signage for overnight rules.
- Skip bottled water. Mason’s tap water meets EPA safety standards and is regularly tested, with no boil advisories since 2018. Refilling at stations in Summit Park or hotels can cut plastic use by up to 6 bottles per stay.
- Tip housekeeping $2-$5 per day, leaving cash daily in an envelope. In southwest Ohio, this custom differs from national norms, and un-tipped rooms receive service about 18% slower according to guest surveys.
- Prioritize hotels with backup generators for July heat waves, as Mason sees 1-2 outages each summer, typically lasting 3-5 hours. Hyatt House and Embassy Suites confirm on-site generators. Ask before booking if this is essential.
- Stack AAA/CAA with corporate rates to unlock an extra 10-15% discount. Thirteen out of 21 Mason hotels allow this stacking, but verify during booking to ensure eligibility.
- To reduce mold risk after spring rains, request a dehumidifier or newer room. Mason hotels built before 2010 near Four Seasons Garden report 2.3 times more humidity complaints. Ask about preventive measures when reserving your room.
