This hotel has a great pool/hot tub, great breakfast, friendly staff, and great proximity to Horrocks.
Staff checked me in and she was wonderful and my room had a nice view of the market with the lights! I liked the automatic lights in the bathroom as well. Besides a desperate need of a revamp to the room, it was pleasant enough.
Was close to the area we needed to be for my Brothers funeral.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 3 to 6 months ahead for Michigan State University football home games, as rates within 1 mile of campus rise 150-250%. Event weekends often increase both rates and minimum night stays, especially at chain hotels.
- Before booking, confirm your hotel's shuttle covers the CATA bus terminal; many only stop short, leaving a 10-15 minute (0.5-1 mile) walk to Downtown Station. Guests with mobility needs or luggage should request step-free drop-off or inquire about alternative accessible transportation if needed.
- Avoid airport hotels for winter trips (November-March), as East Lansing averages multiple 6-12 inch snowfalls, and airport-adjacent hotels often charge $30-$50 per night for parking. Consider hotels along main bus or highway routes for easier snow clearance and transit.
- Ask about Michigan State University alumni, parent, or faculty discounts when booking direct—participating hotels offer 10-15% savings. Major chains like Marriott or Hilton often support these rates; have university affiliation proof ready at check-in.
- Check if hotels like Hawthorn Suites include breakfast; this saves $10-$15 per person daily. If you have dietary needs, ask about grab-and-go or allergy-safe options, which are increasingly offered at chain hotels.
- Pay for dining with credit cards in USD to avoid dynamic currency conversion (DCC) fees. Most local restaurants in East Lansing accept major cards, but independent eateries may set a $10 minimum for card payments so carrying small cash can be useful.
- Request allergy-friendly rooms well ahead during peak pollen months, April-May and September-October, in Michigan. Ask about in-room air purifiers or specify preferences such as no pets or fragrance-free accommodations, which some chain properties offer.
- Compare parking fees: downtown East Lansing hotels charge $10-$25 nightly, but those beyond 2 miles often offer complimentary parking. Verify if rates include in-out privileges, and ask about accessible parking or electric vehicle charging stations.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speeds before arrival. Co-working hotels average 50-100 Mbps, while many budget options report 5-15 Mbps; check recent online reviews for reliability and note that brands like Hyatt Place or Marriott typically provide gigabit speeds or dedicated work lounges.
- Graduation week (late April-early May) near Michigan State University drives hotel rates up 80-120%. Some hotels may require minimum night stays or stricter cancellation policies, so book far ahead or consider properties 5 miles or more from campus to avoid surcharges.
