Top Tips
- Arrange for a car, as public transit is limited in North Stonington. Key amenities, full-service shops, and Amtrak stations are 10-25 minutes by car in Mystic or New London. Ensure your hotel offers parking or check for rideshare availability to plan your connections.
- Base your stay in Mystic or Westerly to access greater hotel inventory, reliable Wi-Fi, and late-night dining. Both towns are a 10-25 minute drive from North Stonington and offer a wider variety of national chain hotels with 24-hour desk service and dining options.
- Before booking small inns or B&Bs, confirm if step-free access, elevator, or accessible room features are available. Many North Stonington lodgings are in historic buildings where stairs and narrow halls are common.
- For rural and independent accommodations, ask about water source, filtration, and allergy protocols. Many use private wells without municipal filtration; if you have sensitivities, request written details about water quality and cleaning procedures before booking.
- Onsite dining options often close by 8-9 PM except on peak summer weekends. Plan ahead for groceries or make restaurant reservations, especially if arriving late or traveling outside June-August.
- Check Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casino event calendars during your reservation window. Large events at these casinos, 10-18 minutes by car, can lead to higher hotel prices and limited availability across nearby towns.
- If you work remotely, verify hotel Wi-Fi speeds and room sound insulation before booking. Small properties may have inconsistent Mbps rates and thin walls; ask for a room away from common spaces to minimize noise.
- Pack tick repellent and long clothing for visits between April and October. North Stonington's wooded and grassy areas are habitats for ticks; conduct daily checks, especially after hikes or time on rural lawns.
- Request written cancellation policies when booking independent inns or B&Bs, as policies may be stricter than major chains. Clarify if credits or rescheduling are offered in case of changes.
