Top Tips
- Reserve at least 3 to 6 months ahead for Pebble Beach event weeks in mid-August and February, as rates at area hotels typically double during these periods. Confirm event dates directly with property staff to avoid peak pricing surprises.
- Confirm on-site parking before you book, as most hotels and inns have limited spots. Public lots are spaced out and can require a 5 to 15 minute walk. Ask your property about nightly parking fees, which often range from $15 to $25, and verify accessible parking availability.
- Request accessible or step-free rooms in advance, as many historic inns and cottages lack elevators or ramp access. Clarify if features such as visual alarms or accessible bathrooms are included with your booking.
- Expect water conservation measures in summer or drought years, when hotels may reduce housekeeping frequency or limit pool use in line with local ordinances. Verify any current restrictions or amenity changes directly with your hotel at booking.
- Fly into Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) for a 15 to 25 minute drive to downtown Carmel. Arrivals into San Jose (SJC) or San Francisco (SFO) add 1.5 to 2+ hours of travel time by car, rideshare, or shuttle.
- Plan your EV charging stop in Monterey or Pebble Beach, as public Level 2 and DC fast chargers are rare within central Carmel. Always verify availability and compatibility with your vehicle in advance on PlugShare or by checking EV hotel listings.
- Dog-friendly hotels and inns often allow pets, but check for nightly pet fees and maximum size policies before booking. Provide your pet’s weight and breed details to confirm eligibility and avoid extra charges.
- For urgent medical care, the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) is 10 to 20 minutes' drive from downtown Carmel. Bring copies of your insurance and ID for faster check-in if needed.
- If working remotely, confirm actual Wi-Fi speeds and ask about quiet room locations before booking. Small inns often advertise Wi-Fi, but speeds may not support video calls during peak usage.
