Pros +
- Beautiful hotel. Nice and helpful staff.
- The views were beautiful and the rooms were lovely. The people were very friendly and kind. Breakfast was tasty. It’s a very quiet and serene place for a break away
- Location is great
Cons -
- Only thing was an elevator would be nice for high floor rooms, and a box mattress would be nice under the top mattress. An extra blanket in the room would have been comfortable.
- It’s not very accessible with all the stairs and no lift
- Staff wasn't the happiest, rooms were dusty. Excepted alot more for the price point.

Staff wasn't the happiest, rooms were dusty. Excepted alot more for the price point.
Staff were really attentive and the ground floor is well looked after
Significantly overpriced for the room. The suite was extremely dated and not terrible, but needs an upgrade. The light was hanging off the ceiling, furniture dated, stains on the carpet and the spa wasn’t really ‘a spa’ … more a small sauna and a small outdoor pool. Not a terrible room, but definitely not worth the £300 a night.
The hotel staff was very nice and friendly. The rooms were very nice and clean. The service at breakfast was very slow but the food very good.
The jacuzzi was nice. Nice breakfast.
The room furnishings were very old and dated. The bed was very small, toliet didn't work. Cracks in the sink.
Well maintained, clean, comfortable. Helpful, flexible staff and management.
The hotel has potential to be a very nice hotel sadly it is run terribly and would not recommend anyone stays here.
I booked this hotel for the night before my wedding. I firstly booked through booking.com and then the hotel made contact and asked me to cancel and book direct through them which I did. I booked 4 rooms at this hotel one being the bridal suite. I specifically requested the bridal suite as I wanted my morning photographs in there. The hotel confirmed this and informed me they would decorate it for me. I called to confirm my booking 4 times as I had booked a year in advance and wanted everything perfect. My last call being a week before we checked in. I was given my room key and entered a ‘suite’ that was most definitely not the bridal suite. It was a larger bedroom with a sofa in it. One window, therefore a very dimley lit room. I had to ensure the makeup artisit brought extra lighting because it was too dark to do makeup in. The room itself was shabby, broken sink, dirty carpet and noisy! When I challenged the staff she smirked and said “we are fully booked sorry” despite me booking that room as soon as it became available a year prior.I requested an extra portion of pastry’s and coffees to the room in the morning and was told there would be a £5 fee.My parents arrived back that evening and found their key wasn’t working, no one was to be seen in the hotel for 2 hours! They could not access their room. This must be against all health and safety regulations because I dread do think if there had been a fire what could have happened. This hotel is a SCAM and if taken over by new management would have potential but until then I would absolutely avoid!
The hotel was dirty and noisy.
The room service was disgusting and not edible.
Set in beautiful grounds. Charming period features. Room was clean & well equipped. Had a comfortable nights sleep under sumptuous bedding.
Lovely location and very quiet. Comfortable bed.
Needs money spending on it - outside looks tiredCheck in not thorough - not told about facilities, spa and restaurant. Bedroom was very tired with some broken furniture, but the bed was very comfy. Dated bathroom.Got the feeling there are not enough staff in the hotel. Dining room carpet needs cleaning. Evening meal in restaurant was lovely, but service very slow.Breakfast menu VERY limited - no cereals or fresh fruit. Weak watery coffee. Only 4 hot mains available. Once my choice was served I never saw the waitress again! Disappointing!
The room was a bit pricey but was lovely - very nice and quite big. The shower was also a good size. Would happily return.
No lift! But only being up a couple of not big flights of stairs made it easier.
Beautiful hotel in amazing location Fabulous staff Very cleanWelcoming to small dog
It was not clear (enough) on booking that on Saturdays, you can’t just book the room, but you are also paying for a 3-course dinner! Which cannot be refunded if you can’t eat in the restaurant…and then the room was in the attic (2 flights of narrow steep stairs) and the bed was essentially a pull out bed from the wall (with doors either side ). So not a spring bed but very very soft ….i had expected more for £370 for 1 night
The location, staff, lobbies
The rooms were outdated and especially the bathrooms with only bathtubs and no shower cubicles. Slippery bathtubs, lack of space between toilet and bath, shower adequate.
Delicious dinner and nice breakfast. Nice staff with a few charming touches.
This hotel needs an injection of capital. Terrible lighting in bedroom - only 2 table lamps. Small bed, small tv, dated decor.Heating didn’t work.Stains on carpets especially on landing.Ordered a cup of tea at 3pm - unable to supply a biscuit or a piece of cake. Seemed surprised that I was surprised!
Amazing building and architecture, the restaurants and shared spaces for eating and drinking where fantastic. Outside terrace seating was brilliant! Spa was excellent too!
Great building and large character rooms. Amazing breakfast room
Very tired room. Broken repaired sink, marks and cuts in carpet. Needs to be renovated. Don’t stay in one of these rooms!
Room was clean and quiet but quite dated. Bottled water supplied and tea & coffee facilities in room. Bed comfortable. Hotel is classic country mansion style in pleasant grounds.
No cereals or fruit for breakfast. Service in restaurant generally very slow although not especially busy. Only 4 coat hangers in room for 2 guests, but at least not the horrible anti-theft type. There is no lift so bedrooms only accessible via several flights of stairs - not ideal for those with mobility issues. Dinner menu choice very limited and wine expensive. I recommend dining at The Oak and Saw pub just a couple of minutes drive away.
The room was very clean. The bed and pillows very comfortable, also. Breakfast was included and provided a good selection. The eggs florentine was delicious. I had a massage in the spa which lovely.
Our room looked very tired. Stained carpets, stained walls, very small double bed, frayed lampshade, poor supply of toiletries, good job I took my own, very disappointed.
