Excellent staff, great location, nice old fashioned hotel
Toilet and shower outside of room but it wasn't a big deal.

Loved the soft towels, for the most part the reception staff were lovely and chatty and liked the upgraded bathroom and the fact that the outside door to the street was locked and only the guests could enter using a key or be buzzed in - good security. Nice heritage building. Sams Diner 4-5 blocks away up Market St on the way to town - great breakfast all 3 mornings!!
A bit noisy from the street - not as bad on the 1st floor but my sister stayed on the 3rd floor and needed to move as the sound travelled a lot. The area of town was a little rough, a few homeless and drug deals going on but could catch the Muni buses, trams easily or walk to Union Square and downtown about 30 mins. Didn’t feel unsafe - just walk past and ignore

The room wasn’t quite as advertised. We booked the twin room and found on arrival that the bathroom (which was separated into two rooms for the shower and toilet) was in fact across the corridor from our room so we would have to leave our room to use these facilities. In addition, the room was small with two single beds and didn’t include a hair dryer. Very basic and as it felt more like a hostel than a hotel, I would describe this as very overpriced.

Basic accommodations. Yes, a bit noisy - we heard the garbage and recycling collected around 7am. We are from Chicago and used to city noises, and those are quite prevalent here, but the garbage pickup was annoying. Great location to metro/bart. There are indeed bums on this stretch of Market St, but they did not bother us (we never walked alone near the hotel). Very convenient location to Hayes Village and Alamo Square.
Triple room, affordable price, good location. Very comfortable beds. Stella, the 100+ yr old elevator, was cute (though sometimes she would need extra care to get her to go to the right floors!).
I knew this when booking, but the bathroom across the hall (have to use your key) was tedious. Cabinet under our sink was falling off the hinges.
