The price was terrific, and the location was across from the City Lights bookstore and walkable to the Exploratorium or Pier 39. There were many restaurants nearby and an active nightlife. We found free street parking for Friday night a few blocks away.
During a late-January week, the intersection of Columbus and Broadway has been quiet on weeknights and noisy until about midnight. Similarly, noises inside hotel are minimal. It¿s a bit chilly but both rooms I¿ve stayed in have had good blankets.

I was there for the pride parade. This hotel is one from Market street. It is only one block from the Metreon and the IMAX theaters and Mel's Diner is half a block away. Easy Walk to Museum's etc. The beds are wonderful.
Friendly staff.

For a hostel bed this was terrific! It was very clean and there was ample privacy and security.
I really loved our stay and the location is rather convenient and not in a terrible part of town. The bed was comfy, the shower was warm and clean, the staff was friendly and helpful.

I love this place. New updated rooms, with nice shower and comfortable bedding. Staff is cool and the interior is a fun and funky modern look. Its Polk Street location is close to Civic Center and BART. Coffee service downstairs. Secured at night.

The hotel was chic, clean, and spacious.
The room was very comfortable and nicely designed. The lobby was also very nice and the service was prompt, professional, and friendly.
The Clift provided the best staycation I could have hoped for. Spotless room, spectacular dining, the most accommodating staff. I was especially grateful for the doormen since I'm disabled. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The staff was great, room was nice I loved the exposed brick wall. Location was OK walking distance to Civic Center and Union Square. Plenty of street parking.
Staff, Fantastic Location! Even the parking was decent. There's one hour parking all a long Folsom but doesn't seem to be enforced so I took my chances. I did end up w a $80.00 street sweeping ticket but that was after parking there for about 48 hours.
Great central location.Although the restrooms are shared it's quite nice to not have a toilet in a small room and the showers are nicer than most private, 4 star showers. If cleanliness is an issue for u just bring ur fave disinfectant spray,

Location and the microwave, refrigerator, cutlery, glasses, bowls, and a sink made they stay well worth the price. Forget the lack of channels to relax on the tube, the room and hearing the hustle and flow of the city added to the overall stay.
Room was comfortable and nice. Staff were super friendly and helpful, coffee, tea and hot chocolate available all day, great location!
The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and went out of their way for anything that we needed.

WILL NEVER STAY IN ANY HOTEL AFFILIATED WITH MARRIOT OR WHO PAY SLAVE WAGES
It was a gracious and welcoming hotel. Despite the union protest right outside the main entrance you would never know anything other than high level personable service from the desk clerk to the coffee shop and bar tender

Perfect area for getting around the city. The staff was so awesome, very helpful!
The room was small but had more than we expected: a big closet enough to fit all our stuff, a coffee maker, a hair fan, and even an iron! There was a dedicated workspace and the internet was good almost all the time. I would rate it higher than it is now.
Only thing no parking

They didn't let me in because it closes at 12am apparently. Yet it let me book and told me to be there by 2am. I havent got my refund or any kind of response even though they said they cancelled it.
The price is right. It's one of my three top budget hotels. It's older, but the beds are new and really comfortable. The TVs are 40 inch with all the DISH channels. The shared bathrooms are very clean. There's a sink. The owners are really nice.
Quiet.  Hotel employee on the spot to open doors. In the heart of downtown I guess. Many homeless. Not too bad of a Hotel.

Where to stay in San Francisco
Learn about the top neighbourhoods of San Francisco
From Broadway performances to shopping to fine dining, this neighborhood serves up a quintessential San Francisco experience. It includes the heart of the city's theater district; before the show, choose among restaurants ranging from big-name fine dining to hole-in-the-wall local favorites. Huff your way up to the crest of affluent Nob Hill, where the less-touristy California Street cable car line offers postcard-perfect views, then relax by the fountain in Huntington Park or walk the labyrinths of Grace Cathedral.
A shopper's paradise, the cosmopolitan zone around Union Square boasts an astounding array of luxury retailers, chic boutiques, department stores and art galleries. Union Square itself offers a welcome respite from the fray, with ample seating and seasonal concerts, not to mention an official soundtrack of cheerful dinging bells from Powell Street's two iconic cable car lines. Head up Grant Avenue to see the Dragon Gate entrance to Chinatown.
The neighborhood around Fisherman's Wharf is perhaps the top tourist zone in the city, and for good reason. Here you'll find plenty of souvenir shopping and signature San Francisco treats like sourdough bread, Dungeness crab and Ghirardelli chocolate. Fun and kitschy museums, including the Musee Mecanique, keep families entertained, and it's a kick to watch conductors push the Powell-Hyde cable cars around at the end of the line at Aquatic Park.
Price by Hotel Class
Most popular: 4* hotels at just over $200.

Prices for 3* hotels are slightly higher at approximately $160, and 4* accommodations, the most popular category, are available for just over $200. The leap to 5* hotels is significant, with prices close to $350.
Price by Week Day
Friday hotel rates in San Francisco are around $180.
In San Francisco, hotel prices generally hover around $170–$180 during the week. While Monday and Thursday see rates just under $180, prices dip slightly midweek and on Tuesday. Weekends witness a marginal increase, peaking on Friday at about $180.
Price by Month

How far in advance should I book?
San Francisco hotel prices drop to around $150 when booking the same day.
In San Francisco, hotel prices generally decrease as the check-in date approaches due to lower availability of top hotels. Prices shift from just over $200 around 90 days before check-in, decreasing to around $150 at last-minute bookings. Three weeks before check-in, many premium hotels are likely fully booked, often leaving lower quality options. Consequently, the prices for these less desired hotels may drop significantly at the last minute, making same-day bookings potentially more affordable.
