Top Tips
- Book 3 to 6 months in advance for Sun Valley ski season to secure rates 20-30% lower than last-minute bookings. Prices typically rise 30-50% from December to February, so booking early ensures your preferred room and maximizes value.
- Budget for 8-11% in added taxes and fees on Idaho hotel stays. Expect higher surcharges in Boise, usually $15 to $20 extra per night, compared to $5 to $15 in rural locations. Compare total costs during booking to avoid surprises at checkout.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speeds if you need reliable remote work. Boise city hotels generally offer 50-100 Mbps, while rural hotels may only have 10-50 Mbps. Request a speed test or bandwidth details before arrival to match your needs.
- Request step-free access or accessible rooms at least 2 weeks ahead, as only 60-70% of Idaho hotels meet full ADA standards, especially in mountainous areas like Sun Valley. Call the hotel directly to confirm specific accessibility features such as visual alarms or roll-in showers.
- Prepare for occasional winter power outages in northern Idaho, lasting 1-2 hours. Choose hotels with backup generators and bring a charged power bank for essential devices; ask the front desk about their emergency protocols if needed.
- In summer, bear activity near Idaho’s national forests increases risk by 40-50%. Use provided food lockers and follow local wildlife guidance - these practices help keep both guests and wildlife safe. Ask the hotel or check for ranger talks on area-specific wildlife updates.
