Very lucky booking almost a year in advance & secured one of the larger sized ocean view Historic rooms. The view was amazing. It was a special treat to stay here. The bed was so comfortable. Spacious room and the in room coffee machine was great as I tend to wake up early before coffee shops open. Took a history tour while a guest that was very informative. The grounds are lovely and it was special to finally see the RHH pink Christmas trees. Love the pool and only had trouble getting a lounger Thanksgiving Day. The other days were fine to get a lounger and the pool lounger employee is very helpful sorting that out. The pool is close to the beach so you can hop from lounger, pool, beach & back easily. The staff were all really lovely too, especially Ryan the customer service manager at the hotel. It was a lovely stay and it is still one of my favourite hotels.
The property was amazing but unfortunately sometimes these days you come across guests who are unusual and under the influence of something. Had to report this to security and it was taken care of promptly. While unusual, this was a surprise to the security team of the hotel. But people are changing in this world and unfortunately on holidays you need to deal with incidents.

Facilities and location are great. Beautiful hotel
Hidden costs and resort fee that is an additional expense for stuff which you expect to have by default (e.g wifi). Not even beach chairs are included in the daily charge!

The location is excellent. The lobby, verandas and beach area were what one would expect at a property at this price point.
We booked a Mailani Premier Ocean King room. We arrived at the hotel early (09:45) and didn't expect our room to be ready. But at the designated check-in time of 15:00, it still wasn't ready. They tried to move us to a lower grade room but eventually, after speaking with the manager, gave us the Ocean King room. The room was basically as shown in the photos, but the condition was very poor with stained seat cushions, broken chair back rails, and the dresser/desk was scratched, dented and looked like it had been retrieved from a land fill. At $800+ per night, even with an outstanding view from the balcony, it wasn't close to being worth it.We were very disappointed in the stay and can't recommend this hotel. Judging by our room, they're living on past glories.

We had the most spectacular room, on the 16th floor, overlooking the ocean. Spacious balcony and very comfortable and large room. Every staff member was incredibly friendly and helpful. Mai Tai bar downstairs is top-notch (if not pricey). Access to the beach was easy and the chairs and umbrellas crucial for shade and space. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. Would definitely stay again.
The umbrella sets on the beach were very difficult to reserve. We were able to get one for a Friday, but very unfortunately, there happened to be a wedding on the adjacent grass which was VERY loud and disruptive. We ended up leaving the beach early because of it. The pool is nothing to write home about.

The room was big and we were upgraded to a part sea view. Staff were very friendly and helpfull.
We had a 25 min wait for breakfast and it was only menu order from a limited menu.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice hotel and in a great location, but for the price I expected a LOT better.
Most bigger hotels in this price range at least give you a breakfast buffet. I'd like to see that added, Also, a much better in house convenience store would be nice. The one they had had a very poor selection of drinks etc. And lastly, their pool is microscopic. I understand that it's a beach front hotel, but many people are uncomfortable in the Ocean.

We stayed on Oahu, Kauai and Maui and this was our favourite hotel we stayed in Hawaii. The location is iconic, the fact we had sunbeds right on Waikiki beach was a dream. We absolutely loved the look and feel of hotel, respectful of the Hawaiian roots and distinctive versus all the generic luxury hotels you can find in Hawaii that lack any personality. The atmosphere was amazing, the facilities and the restaurants on site were very good. I personally also liked that it was central also to the main bulevard, it was useful for our stay to be walking distance but at the same time easy to get out by car for our trips. We enjoyed the breakfast provided by the hotel. Exceptional services. We will definitely recommend this location!
