Sands Motel is a functional motel in Portales, NM. It is on the main strip right at the city limits. It is 3/4 block from the Greyhound Bus Stop. Burger King, Taco Bell, 4 star Mexican, Dollar Store, McDonalds, 24 hr convenience store are 1-2 minute walk.

It is an older motel, truly classic Americana. It is a family owned business now and the property is much better maintained. They are upgrading/remodeling rooms, so there is daytime construction noise and activity, and not all rooms have been remodeled.

The area it is in. But don't book online because they charge more for online rather then booking room at the front desk then online.

Asked for a non-smoking room and we got the worst smoke smelling room ever. It left our own clothes, pillows, and bodies smelling like smoke. It was extremely bad. The one chair was very stained, the comforter was torn, the vent had no cover....and so on.

Location to where I was going

Carpet had weird stains, floor had weird creaky noise. Was concerned about the bed almost the kind of environment for bed bugs. Would never stay here again.

Right across the street from the university and affordable. You don't have many options in Portales and even the branded hotels are not well maintained, so putting up with the very dated rooms and lack of amenities is worth saving $100 a night.

The rooms are very dated and the carpet is terrible.

We stayed in a room with 3 beds which was great for family, wish more motels had this accommodation. Liked the frig and microwave. Restaurants and shopping in walking distance.

Hotel could use some updating but room was clean & location was good for us.

The price was right; I saved about a hundred bucks; it wasn't fancy, but the people were lovely, the room was as good as a more expensive one, the air conditioner worked, it was clean and near places I needed to be. I would go there again.

There was no pool.

ROOM WAS SUPER CLEAN.

It needs to be mentioned that there is a $10 dollar a night per pet fee not just that they accept pets.

This was a great location for the purpose of my trip.

Could hear neighbors through the walls and everything in the parking lot outside the door.

The service and price

We went for my aunt's funeral and it was 2 minutes from the church there was six of us so having three beds in one room was very nice I didn't have to get two rooms. The owner was very very nice I would stay again it's very old but it was clean

They did not have breakfast at this location, room was clean & bed was comfortable, the owners were very nice, location was good for our event

I dont like giving bad reviews. Unfortunately, I have several items that need to be addressed... The room was dirty, especially the bathroom. There's still a dried up used bar soap stuck on the top of the shower surround. There's dead flies under the desk and lastly, the left side of the bed "pivots" down in a slope. Most likely broken.
