- Sands Motel is a functional motel in Portales, NM. It is on the main strip right at the city limits. It is 3/4 block from the Greyhound Bus Stop. Burger King, Taco Bell, 4 star Mexican, Dollar Store, McDonalds, 24 hr convenience store are 1-2 minute walk.
Cons -
- Toilet was de signed for k Garten children...we are in 70s
- It is an older motel, truly classic Americana. It is a family owned business now and the property is much better maintained. They are upgrading/remodeling rooms, so there is daytime construction noise and activity, and not all rooms have been remodeled.
- Asked for a non-smoking room and we got the worst smoke smelling room ever. It left our own clothes, pillows, and bodies smelling like smoke. It was extremely bad. The one chair was very stained, the comforter was torn, the vent had no cover....and so on.

The area it is in. But don't book online because they charge more for online rather then booking room at the front desk then online.
