Nothing, even though I paid in full ahead of time for the room. They said we arrived past their aloud check in time? There is no such thing posted on their website or anywhere in the hotel.

Top Tips
- Prince George Airport (YXS) is about 8 km (5 mi) from downtown. Many hotels offer complimentary shuttle services, or expect taxi fares of $15 to $25 USD (20 to 34 CAD approx.). Confirm if hotel shuttles require advance reservation or operate after late arrivals, as flight schedules can vary.
- Secure better rates and availability by booking accommodations well in advance for summer recreation, winter holidays, or major local events, as rooms can fill quickly. Options range from major brands to local boutiques, and some properties offer early-bird packages or loyalty perks for advance bookings.
- With possible flight disruptions or changing weather, especially in northern BC winters, choose hotels offering flexible cancellation or refundable rates, often available until 24-48 hours before arrival. If arriving late due to weather or travel delays, check with your hotel about late check-in arrangements.
- If driving, confirm the availability of free and secure hotel parking. During winter, inquire about heated underground parking, snow removal, plug-in facilities for block heaters, and ensure rental cars have winter tires for icy conditions.
- Room rates typically include a 5% federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) and 8% British Columbia Provincial Sales Tax (PST) on accommodation. Some hotels may add a Destination Marketing Fee (DMF) of up to 3%. Review your reservation confirmation for an itemized breakdown of all taxes and fees.
- Business travelers should verify Wi-Fi speeds, access to printers, and whether meeting room use is complimentary or fee-based. Some major hotels also offer business centers or co-working spaces. To minimize noise, request a room away from elevators for conference calls.
- Families should confirm availability of connecting rooms, cribs, microwaves, minifridges, and laundry access. Many mid-range hotels, such as Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn, typically include breakfast. Verify breakfast hours and check pet policies if traveling with animals.
- For quieter stays, request a room on the upper floors, away from elevators, vending machines, highway traffic, or airport-facing sides. If you have sensory sensitivity or require specific noise-reduction features, ask if accessible rooms with enhanced soundproofing are available.
- Prince George has cold, snowy winters and cool-to-warm summers. Pack layered clothing and waterproof footwear, and inquire about secure storage or hotel dryers for outdoor gear like skis, bikes, or fishing equipment.
- Tipping is customary in Canada: plan for 15-20% at restaurants, $2-4 USD (3-5 CAD approx.) per bag for bell staff, and $3-7 USD (4-9 CAD approx.) daily for housekeeping. Major restaurants and hotels often accept tips by card, but cash is appreciated by bell and housekeeping staff.
- Standard check-in requires government photo ID and a credit card for incidentals. International guests should bring their passports. Most chain hotels do not accept cash deposits; inquire about the minimum check-in age and incidental hold amount before your stay.
- Distances between attractions are significant. Renting a car is advisable for exploring areas like Purden Ski Village (about 45 minutes east) or local trails. Major rental brands operate at YXS Airport and in the city; compare rates and book in advance during peak outdoor seasons.
- Front desk staff and concierges can suggest local restaurant specialties such as wild salmon, smoked meats, or craft breweries within 2 km, help book tours, and provide current updates on trail or road conditions.
- If you need specific accommodations, such as accessible rooms with step-free or lift access, or medical refrigeration, confirm these services directly with the hotel when booking. Early notice improves availability, especially for accessibility needs.
- Check recent reviews on TripAdvisor or Google to assess service consistency, cleanliness, noise levels, or shuttle reliability. Look for mentions of recent renovations or service disruptions and discuss recurring concerns directly with the hotel before booking.
- Canada uses 120V Type A/B plugs, similar to the US standard. While credit and debit cards are widely accepted, most large hotels offer ATMs onsite, and carrying some Canadian dollars can be convenient for tips or small vendors.
- Lodges outside Prince George may have local wildlife such as bears nearby, so secure food and valuables. Most top local lodges provide secure garbage storage and emergency contacts in welcome materials. Ask your hotel about safe walking routes and emergency contact procedures in remote areas.
