- The location near the lake in a quiet small town was magical. The room was typical and comfy, with everything we needed. Dinner and breakfast were really tasty with typical food from the region.
- Interesting property that sits on a river very Japanese style.
- The rooms were very very clean, including the bathroom. The staff were so kind and helpful and a wonderful breakfast was served. The front desk was able to give me recommendations for dinner and it was spot on. This is actually not a bad place to spend your night if you're hiking. It's a little further away than Hotel Subaru but at a better price. I think it would actually be worth the price of the hotel if they would have just kept it a little cleaner. Yes it needs to be updated but if it's clean I don't care. They have unique and wonderful artwork throughout the hotel and a nice massage chair for 100 yen that is well worth it. They have two baths, one inside with beautiful stone work on the floor and the other and outside air which is a gorgeous surroundings. On my room I was able to look out and enjoy the view of the river.
Cons -
- Place is in the middle of nowhere. Nothing was open besides a mini mart and one small restaurant so we could actually eat something. Whole town seemed dead. Seemed overpriced for the value.
- I was a bit upset about the refrigerator. It wasn't really a refrigerator because I couldn't put anything other than water in there to keep cool. I couldn't freeze my water nor could I store food. I asked for another room so I can get a refrigerator so I can host or my medicines properly and she said no I couldn't have another room and all the refrigerators were just like mine where you couldn't put anything in them and they used to be used to stock cocktail drinks. The freezer section needed to be thawed. I included a picture in this review. While the hotel is dated and a little old would be fine with me if they would just keep it clean and maintained. The rooms were Immaculate however the hallways and the bathrooms downstairs had stains mildew and mold. The inside onsen area while beautiful, had rested and corroded fixtures, mold, and there was Moss or slimy green stuff in the bath
- It seemed the inside hot spring area was a little outdated. The area outside was beautiful on the other hand and very relaxing.

The staff was absolutely amazing and friendly-they explained everything about the great food that was cooked for us. A lovely meal after enjoying the hot spring bath.
It seemed the inside hot spring area was a little outdated. The area outside was beautiful on the other hand and very relaxing.
The breakfast and dinner were absolutely fabulous! Every dish was a delight. The staff are exceptionally friendly and polite, making us feel incredibly welcome. We left our window open all night and were met with the most peaceful sounds: gentle rain, the sweet chirping of birds, and the soothing rush of water wheel from the onsen. There was no traffic noise whatsoever, just pure tranquility.
While functional, the bath facilities are in need of significant modernization and refurbishment.
The staff was so Kind and helpful. One of the most beautiful onsens we have ever seen (both, women's and men's outdoor onsen). The river view from the rooms is so stunning you could spend days in the internal balcony space reading and marveling at the emerald green water. The dinner was fantastic too.
The setting is beautiful. The food was excellent. The staff are remarkably kind and clearly hard working. I especially loved the setting of the hot spring, as well as the gorgeous view of the river from the room. I would love to stay here again.
The location was beautiful and peaceful and the view from our room was amazing. The food was really good but the onsen facilities didn’t match up to the photos and were a bit disappointing. The indoor baths felt a bit tired and dirty. The outdoor was lovely but very small when compared to the photos. It was a great stay overall
Very pleasant staff
A hotel whose prime is waaaay behind it. Outdated and in rough shape (still very clean thougj)
It was an amazing experience of a traditional guest house with very traditional dinner and breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed the onsen and the view from the room was breathtaking. The subtle ways in which the staff took care of us made us enjoy every piece of it
Incredible view over the river from the room - absolutely stunning. Friendly and helpful staff and a comfortable stay. Lovely inside and outdoor onsen available to use. Also enjoyed the foot massage machine!
The corridors were very warm as there was no air conditioning in the common areas - thought it was lovely and cool in the room.
The staff were so helpful, the room was large and had great views, and the dinner and breakfast were feasts of exceptional quality.
The futon beds were too hard
Beautiful hotel with an outdoor onsen overlooking the river - much needed after a long hike on the Kumano Kodo KocheciJapanese breakfast included tooA beautiful Japanese style room with balcony overlooking the river which was honestly stunning An amazing restaurant round the corner too
The carpets leading to the room were a bit grubby
Big rooms. Excellent onsen. Friendly staff - did some cloth washing for us. Good restaurant nearby.
Fantastic Japanese style breakfast. Room was spacious and had a great view. Staff made an effort to communicate in English which is always appreciated.
Outdoor onsen and bathing area could have been cleaner. There was more algae/sulfur build up than other onsen in the area comparatively speaking.
Great onsen, comfortable rooms, great location on Kumano Kohechi, delicious breakfast
The service here is hands down the standout memory from our stay. From the minute you walk in the door to the time you depart, the staff is exceptional! The service is again highlighted during the traditional meals which were also outstanding!!! Onsen is picturesque but definetely dated.
The property is dated and is in need of some sprucing up. Beyond just upgrades, the entire property from the rooms to the traditional baths desperately need a thorough cleaning, which was disappointing. Cleaning is free and simple and should be kept up with. Our room walls and the carpet flooring leading to it were littered with various stains. The baths, especially the mens, had mould EVERYWHERE which was a big turn off for me to use them.
Great location and staff were very attentive and helpful.
Property a little dated and in need of some attention. Otherwise clean and tidy. Maybe lack of tourism in the area has something to do with maintaining a large hotel.
The food was amazing! The room and views were great and the staff were very helpful!
The onsen was a little too hot for our group so we didn't spend too much in there.
The outside of onsen was amazing. You can hear that birds were singing while you were in the onsen. Very nice atmosphere. The breakfast was a Japanese full breakfast using local foods and some of them were cooked with onsen.
I understand that the hotel is old but it would be nice to be deep cleaned.
