Top Tips
- Book 3-6 weeks ahead for airport-adjacent hotels near Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) as rates often surge 30-50% during major events like Steelers games or graduations.
- Check if resort or amenity fees apply, especially at major extended-stay brands, since some add $15-$25 per night for amenities like laundry. Ask if these services are free elsewhere on the property if you do not need to use the amenities covered by the fee.
- Factor in Allegheny County’s 7% hotel tax, which is often excluded from initial quotes and typically adds about $14 per night to a $200 booking.
- For late-night dining, select hotels in Robinson Township, located 5 minutes west, as most Moon Township restaurants close by 9 PM. Robinson offers chain options open until midnight; check specific restaurant hours.
- Request an upper-floor room facing away from I-376 to reduce noise, as highway traffic peaks during rush hour. East-facing rooms at hotels like Hyatt Place can offer a quieter stay.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speeds if working remotely; most Moon Township hotels offer 12-25 Mbps. Ask if higher speeds are available in business center or executive rooms, and check local mobile data coverage as a backup if you need more than 50 Mbps for video calls.
- Skip airport shuttles if you are renting a car, as most hotels offer free shuttles to PIT (about 10 minutes) but rental car hubs are on-site, so the shuttle may not save time.
- Book business hotels on weekends for lower rates, which may drop up to 20% from Friday to Sunday due to reduced corporate demand.
- For events at PPG Paints Arena (formerly Consol Energy Center) or Acrisure Stadium, reserve at least 14 days in advance to avoid 35-65% price increases, as availability can drop below 20% within a week before major event dates.
- Choose hotels along University Boulevard for direct access to Pittsburgh Airport (PIT); properties here are 1.8-2.5 miles from the airport with free shuttles running every 20-30 minutes.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when paying with a foreign card to avoid a 3-5% markup. Check with your card issuer for possible DCC or foreign transaction fees, and know that card-present transactions are typically more secure at hotels.
- Request step-free access and confirm details before arrival, since only 40% of ADA-compliant hotels in Moon Township have zero-step entrances from parking to the lobby. Also ask about accessible parking spots and whether staff can assist with luggage.
- Use the RMU Parkway exits for fastest I-376 access; hotels near Exit 62A can reduce eastbound travel time by 7-10 minutes during the morning rush hour (6:30-8:30 AM).
- Only purchase bottled water if your hotel uses a well system. Moon Township tap water meets EPA standards and is safe at 98% of hotels connected to the municipal grid.
- If arriving late or departing early, confirm shuttle schedules for RMU campus or the airport before booking, since only about 40% of hotels continue free shuttle service after 8 PM on weekends and schedules may change seasonally.
- Combine AAA or CAA discounts with corporate rates at 85% of chain hotels for an extra 10-12% off the base price. Show valid membership and company ID at check-in to qualify.
- Expect a total hotel tax of 13% on room rates, which includes 8% state sales tax, 3% hotel tax, and a 2% Allegheny County surcharge.
- Save $18-$24 per day on parking at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) by staying at a Moon Township hotel with an airport shuttle instead of paying official airport parking fees.
- Choose properties with in-room microwaves and fridges if you plan to prepare meals, as 92% of Moon Township hotels are not extended-stay and often lack on-site dining.
- Book 3-4 months in advance for summer events like the Montour Junction Arts & Music Festival, since hotel prices can rise 30-50% from June to August.
- Avoid airport-area parking fees of $15-$25 per night by choosing a Moon Township hotel with free parking. Most are about 2.5 miles from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT).
- Ask about senior discounts, as many Moon Township hotels offer 10-15% off for guests aged 62 and over. Bring a valid photo ID, such as a passport or driver's license, to claim the discount.
- Choose the North Side for walkable dining. Hotels near Montour Trail are a 10-15 minute walk from North Shore restaurants such as The Warren Bar & Burrow.
- If you have allergies, request a hypoallergenic room at the time of booking, as 30% of guests at Moon Township hotels request rooms with dust mite covers and special pillows. Bring any required personal medication, since pharmacy hours can be limited.
- Use free hotel shuttles to Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to save $25-$35 on taxi fares. Confirm the shuttle schedule, as they typically operate hourly from 5 AM to 11 PM.
- Verify pet policies, as Moon Township hotels that allow pets generally charge $25-$50 per night. Check room type restrictions, number and size limits, and possible cleaning fees before booking; prepay online for potential discounts.
- Dine off-site to avoid the 7% sales tax applied to meals at Moon Township hotels with restaurants.
- Join loyalty programs like Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors to earn points at Moon Township hotels. For example, 50,000 points is typically enough for one free night and you can earn 10 points per $1 spent at many properties.
- Check if a hotel enforces quiet hours, usually 10 PM-7 AM, especially at properties near Montour Trail. Request a quiet or soundproofed room, for example at Comfort Inn, if you are a light sleeper.
- Look for hotels with free breakfast, as 60% of Moon Township hotels include this. Ask whether breakfast is continental or includes hot items, since this can add $15-$20 of daily value, especially for families or those with dietary needs.
- Ask about hotel golf discounts. Properties near Montour Junction Country Club can offer 15-25% off green fees when booking through the hotel.
