- Terrible Experience – Avoid at All CostsRating: ★☆☆☆☆After a grueling 15-hour drive from Jinja, Uganda, we arrived at AA Lodge Masai Mara around 9 PM, expecting at least a warm welcome. What followed was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever endured. When we arrived, we mentioned that Booking.com listed the rate as $186 USD, and we politely asked if they wanted us to book through the site or pay directly (knowing that direct payments save them agency fees). To our shock, the receptionist insisted on charging us $250 USD. After a heated 20-minute argument explaining their listed price, they grudgingly lowered it to $200 USD—but only if paid in cash. This demand for cash was highly suspicious, especially as a large sign behind him clearly stated “No Cash Payments.”Whether the staff was trying to scam their own employer or the boss was bypassing taxes, it was deeply unsettling. When I pointed out that they supposedly accept card payments (as advertised), they denied it. Exhausted and desperate for food after our long journey, I reluctantly handed over the $200 using our card as they ended up accepting it.Adding insult to injury, tour guides—who bring business to hotels—are typically accommodated for free across Uganda and Kenya. Yet, they charged our guide for food, even threatening to deny him a meal if he didn’t pay. This practice is outrageous and incredibly disrespectful to the very people who help sustain their business.Other issues we faced:•No milk for tea at dinner – They claimed they ran out but magically had some by breakfast.•Bar closed at 9:30 PM, leaving us unable to buy water for the night.•Electricity cuts – Power went out at 10 PM, and when it came back at 6 AM, the lights in our room (which we hadn’t turned off, not knowing about the outage) lit up the entire space, waking us up abruptly. There was another power outage during lunch.•Dirty swimming pool – The pool was yellow, filled with insects, and completely unusable.
- Food wasnt good at all Rooms did not have connectivity to the other rooms or reception in emergency
- Overall it does not give people a clean feeling in terms of facility and food. Staffs were not quick to respond to requests. The hotel has a lot of potential: great location and great facility. What it needs is the willingness to put in effort to provide a better service.

The food and friendly service
The bathrooms are smelly. The sewer system smells. The shower heads in the block rooms are very fine jets.
Everything except the bed was first rate. Food was excellent. Good location.
The bed was very uncomfortable. Basically a box spring with a thin layer of padding.
Lovely relaxing bush setting with wild birds to wake you up in the mornings. Location to Masai Mara reserve park is excellent...only 5 mins drive away.
Cleanliness is lacking. What used to be shiny furnishings in the bathroom, wash room, relaxing chairs outside bar and restaurant are all dirty and grimy. See pictures taken from the lodge. Could do with more bleach and detergent cleaning please.
The place is located next to mara national park. So lits of animals running around and there's alot to see.The staff were really nice and smiling.
We the food did not suit our children. And at the time we were there they had a school trip so the lines at dinning room were really long and loud. I think they should have devide the hours for the school students and for the guests. The swimming pool is not for children or wedterns as the water were not clear and fool with bugs and mosquitos. So dont count on it. The shower had no stream of water.. and no hot water at all.
beautiful setting and friendly service
hot and no fan
the rooms are beautiful
Hot water in the shower but very few waterFood very bad« All inclusive » but no drinking water included
it was well decorated
it was a bit cold so had to wear socks in the room and be under the duvet. no tv
the location of the hotel, and the structure of the tents
no food options , at breakfast very limited options, at lunch and dinner almost ten same food always
Located just outside the Mara, the Lodge offers cottages and tents on a gorgeous property.
The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed with checking in/information on the day/checking out. We were the only guests for a large property (given that Covid has really made a cut to travelling) and it seemed like the whole process confused them. Food was "okay", but nothing special.
At the time of our trip, we could get an all-inclusive room in AA lodge cottages for 100 $ per night, which was a value for the money choice compared to campsite offers. With this price, I would say all was good and their pictures are helpful to know what you should expect. The location is just outside of the park, with a short drive to it.They gave us packed lunches for our safari day and the day of our departure.
It's important to know, there is no wifi in the rooms but in the public areas. Food and meals are not much tasty but there is variety. There is a time limit for using the pool, from 6 to 18, and no night swimming.
Our Masai guide Emanuel was great. Food was good. Lodge in wood was good, with hot water from solar panels.Electricity and WiFi was only in morning and evening, as with covid there were nearly no clients.Wild animals are all around the hotel.
GPS location showed by booking.com are totally wrong
The accommodation (chalet) was very romantic with Africa-look decor and the beds very comfortable. The staff very friendly, attentive and accommodating. There were 4 meals like Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon (Tea/Coffee/Cake) and Dinner.
The accommodation has concealed in the description that the electricity is regularly turned off from 11 pm. The electricity is turned on only the next day at 6 pm. We had electricity only 5 hours a day, so we could hardly use kettles. Also the charging of the smartphone, laptop, camera were extremely difficult with only 5 hours of electricity a day. Wifi only in public areas (reception area) and also the internet is only ready as long as the electrictiy is available for 5 hours a day.
Breakfast was okay. the location very good since it is just at the gate to the park
The wifi should extend to the rooms. The rooms should have Television
It was clean, quiet and good hide out.
You may quickly find superior hotels nearby that are more environmentally friendly when you compare hotel costs. Additionally, the food wasn't all that wonderful.
Food, Location
I liked the staff in the property
No options for fridge or icecubes
Pleasant
Please improve on the water heating system, the cold shower during a cold season was a little unpleasant
