    Pros +

    • Rooms are modern. Key card entry. The cafe bar on the 1st floor is amazing, full of nostalgic artifacts that the owner collected. There's even a pool table! Free parking, right in front of the hotel. Super close to the main street.
    • Great little place close to Kii Tanabe station. The folks at the front desk were super kind and helpful, they helped both me and another guest make some necessary calls to our future accommodations. Breakfast was delicious and just the right size!
    • Nice central location, not far from the station. The room was spacious, and we heard no noise from other guests. The breakfast (both Japanese and Western) was really delicious. We could leave our luggage in the hotel, while we were hiking the Kumano Kodo, for a small fee, and that went without any problem. The host first appeared a bit unfriendly, but that was more likely due to the language barrier The beds were very comfortable (a bit hard, but that did not bother us).

    Cons -

    • Only one minor gripe was that the elevator always stops at the 2nd floor (reception desk) no matter what. This makes loading and unloading a bit of a pain when you have to make multiple trips.
    • I really have no complaints, it was a wonderful first night in Tanabe. A window with a screen would have been nice.
    • Everything was as hoped

    Location and nearby eating places.

Pillow is hard; room is tiny.

Excellent breakfast, yukata and tea provided, nice staff, comfy bed, close to the train station.

    Small capsule bathroom

A modest, charming hotel with lovely staff and beautiful breakfasts.

    Bathrooms are quite small.

    8NancyPosted on: 9-27-2024

The breakfast was included but the earliest we could eat was 7 am. Would rather have eaten earlier for an earlier start time catch our bus to Takajiri Oji.

Before I set off on my Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, I stayed one night at the Hotel Hanaya. It is perfectly located, right near the bus and train station. So you don't have to go far.I didn't enjoy breakfast, but there is a 7/11 at the train station. The internet was stable, the room was big enough and clean. The whole hotel is a bit old-fashioned, but that didn't bother me.Check-in is only from 4 p.m., please note.

Close to the train station, but could hear train bells. Room was clean. Had AC and WiFi.

The reception smelled like stale cigarettes, and staff were not friendly. The air in the whole place was terrible. The bathroom was like a plastic RV pod set into the room and just felt icky. The beds were terrible, like a wood box, and we woke up with sore backs and necks .There was a lot of noise from doors opening in the halls starting at 4 am. I would not recommend.

The food was amazing! We had an excellent breakfast before walking the Kumono Kodo trail and the lunch bento box was delicious as well. Nice smell of incense on arrival. The dining room was very cool with alot of American memorabilia. I love the saloon doors that lead to the bathroom.Really close to kii tanabe and Isakyas as well.

    7YeePosted on: 5-12-2024

Staff is nice and the facility is good.

The room is a little bit small

    7KarenPosted on: 5-4-2024

The breakfast was good and just what we needed before heading out on the Kumano Kodo.

I wish the restaurant would have been open for dinner. We had trouble finding a place to eat the evening of our stay. The restaurants were small and already booked with reservations.

Hotel close to Tanabe train / bus stations. Easy walk. Elevator. Quiet. WiFi. Staff helpful. Hotel just as described in Booking.com

    9MaryPosted on: 4-17-2024

Close to Kii-Tanabe train/bus stations. Easy walk. Quiet. Room clean. Breakfast great.

    6MartinPosted on: 4-14-2024

Great location close to station and izakayas for a short overnight stay. We were able to have an early breakfast which was ok. Standard Japanese breakfast.

Very dated. Quite dark and musty smell, creaky floors. Nothing really wrong with it but not the most comfortable.

    8BronislawPosted on: 3-28-2024

When I first saw the outside of the hotel, I thought it looked shabby, but my room was great, location was only four minutes walk to the station and tourist information centre and the breakfast was excellent.

    9EdenPosted on: 1-2-2024

The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Kii-Tanabe station. The room was warm (winter) and clean and the bed quite comfortable. Breakfast at the GF bar was delicious. One can choose between Western and Japanese. I chose Japanese.

    Only one pillow.

    7JurekPosted on: 11-3-2023

400 meters from the train station, western twin room, opening window. We were able to leave our luggage before the check-in and after the check-out.

    check-in at 4pm, average breakfast

    8SusanPosted on: 10-17-2023

Staff were friendly. The breakfast was exceptional and served in a dining room full of interesting memorabilia.

    8KateyPosted on: 9-27-2023

Great location. Skipped breakfast for early bus.Good size room for 1 person. Comfortable and clean.Several restaurants close by and 5 minutes walk to train station.

Older style but couldn’t fault it.
