    Pros +

    • The location was exceptional!
    • Beautiful views, accessible beach, affordable and good food available.Kind staff!
    • The way to the hotel was a little bit rough and uncomfortable specially because we arrived at night, otherwise the staff and the hotel is very lovely and their food is good

    Cons -

    • We stayed at this accommodation about a year ago and loved it so much that we decided to return. Unfortunately, this visit didn’t live up to our previous experience, mainly due to interactions with staff that felt unwelcoming and at times rude. After our stay at Rock n Reef, we visited other villas in Uluwatu and were met with much warmer, more polite service, which highlighted the contrast. We hope this is something that can be improved in the future, as the property itself has great potential and we truly enjoyed it on our first visit.
    • STAIRS. Monkeys, layout was difficult to navigate on the side of a cliff. Cleanliness could be improved. Cost was high in comparison to our hotel in Ubud which was nicer and cheaper.
    • (1) Air conditioning barely worked and Uluwatu is a very hot and humid place. (2) The shower drain was clogged and the smell of sewage would come up into the room. There is also absolutely no hot water. (3) There was a hole in the bathroom wall that would go up into a table in the common area so they get to enjoy all the sounds and smells of the bathroom. This is their solution instead of a bathroom fan. Not to mention since it’s a literal hole in the wall ants were coming in through it. (4) The bed was very uncomfortable. Hard mattress and flat lumpy pillows that came with many stains on the pillow cases. (5) The steps to get up and down are extremely steep. I would only stay here if you are in extremely good shape. Stairs aren’t usually a problem but they are narrow, steep, can get muddy, and the signage is almost non-existent so it’s hard to tell you’re going the right way. (6) people will shine flashlights into your room from the water or when they are fishing next to your hotel room at night time (7) We left our booking 1 day early and the staff did not question it and did not care. They did not offer us a service to bring our bags back up. I think they bank on people leaving early to make more money. Service and a general care about you as a guest is the least of their concerns. In conclusion this place is more of a surf hostel than a boutique hotel. If you want gorgeous views at the cost of comfort and hospitality this is your place. If you are looking for comfort and service I would suggest staying at a nicer place. You can stay at a 5 star hotel for the same price and just get a Gojek into town.

The view is incredible and you can’t beat being steps from the ocean. That’s the best part of this place. Accessibility to surf is unparalleled. If you wanted you could paddle down to Padang Padang. Unfortunately those were the only good qualities.

    Not worth it

Don’t be fooled by the pictures. Outside view is decent though the way the balcony is set up prevents you from actually enjoying it, rooms are outdated, lack of security for the rooms, and rooms were not clean over all. We ended up checking out within 3 hours of checking in and booking a different hotel.

The location was amazing and the architecture was unique. We loved the common space area and the different options of table setting they had to offer. We also loved that you can walk along the coast all the way to padang padang beach. You can also walk the other direction to enjoy a different view and walk.

The only issue was the price per night. It was a bit expensive. Everything was amazing and made it worth it at least.

It has a good view but there are better places around here. If you’ve stayed at good places you wouldn’t like it here.

You’ve to wait 10-15 minutes outside Antara once youve called them to collect your luggage. Its an old property. Rooms had smell, no air fresheners in room for it. The hotel manager never responds to your messages. Average food options. Room had no basic amenities at all. No mineral water available at restaurant. They only provide filtered water. You have to go to reception to ask for things, no telephone.

This location is jaw dropping beautiful! Located on a cliff overlooking the sea. Waking up to the sound of the waves and watching the surfers was a highlight! The food was prepared by a small friendly staff. Delicious. A real small business feel. The room was glorious with windows floor to ceiling and typical Balinese decor. Highly recommend for those willing and able to climb many stairs to and from the hotel. Worth the efforts of getting there!

The view was amazing! And for what we've had to trek through to get to the location, it's 100% worth it! Knowing how busy the regular public beaches would've been, it was nice having an almost private beach to ourselves. The waves were right below my window! The feeling of waking up and going to sleep with the sound of the thunderous ocean was like relaxing. I love the balcony and spent hours just sat there, looking out into the ocean. The resort has a small exit to the left that goes directly to the beach, which i only found out about the morning we were about to leave. Food there was mediocre. Nothing much to write home about. Staff were amazing! Everyone was smiley and helpful and professional, which made our stay that much enjoyable, even if it were for one night.

Food options and quality. But the view made up for it.

Stunning setting in a stunning location

The hotel is accessible only through a hike on stairs built into the cliff. Scary at night and not for everyone.

    5NataliePosted on: 4-20-2025

Lovely being so close to the waves and the view was spectacular.

Pool is the depth of a bathtub and no bigger than a double large spa bath.

The view, the location. It's a perfect spot, a special place. My 4th visitOn one of the best beaches in Uluwatu, a very quiet spot.

    10GallagherPosted on: 4-12-2025

The room was immaculate and well laid out. The view was incredible and looked straight out over the beach. We enjoyed a delicious meal for dinner and the portion size was huge and breakfast was included. There's a set of stairs that lead down to the beach and it all felt private and secluded.

A minor gripe and one of which we were well aware of when we booked is the amount of stairs to access the resort. Well worth the trek up and down though.

Ocean view. The ocean view from the room is the only thing that actually worth It.

Room too hot, the air conditioner does not works well for the room that is staring all day to the sun, We needed to sleep with a fan pois the air conditioner on, and still hot. Also the Wi-Fi did not work well.Regarding the accessibility to the hotel, is very bad!!! A lot of stairs to get into the hotel and with no structure. We had some luggage with dive gears, what was really uncunfortable to get to the room and also to leave the hotel.

The staff were amazing , the ocean view spectacular. Rooms very nice.

I wished it had a swimming pool.

We loved the location, your quiet paradise but only 10 mins walk to many restaurants etc The staff were so amazing and attentive, they made our stay.

    2SarahPosted on: 4-4-2025

I definitely would not recommend staying here. At nearly $200 per night, you're paying for the view-nothing else. The location is far from everything, making it inconvenient. I saw the reviews about the stairs and assumed they wouldn't be an issue since I'm young and fit, but they are exactly as described-extremely steep and unsafe. On arrival, we had to carry our own suitcases down. There was no water or electricity, and the staff showed no concern or apology. No one offered us water or any form of compensation. The food is average at best. For this price, you can find much better accommodations elsewhere.Overall, a very disappointing experience.

After making a non refundable booking I tried to reach the property in the number provided in the booking confirmation email but the number was incorrect and not reachable. I have send further emails with my queries and a secondary WhatsApp number given as that of one Valentine was also not reachable and never recieved any response. Since the property was away from everything else and off the cliff property we decided not to take the chance of driving all the way from Seminayak without any confirmation on my enquiries . On the day of checkin post midnight I received a whatsapp message from property asking if I will be checking in and it was 12:50 am. I asked about the challenges I faced in contacting them and i got the below response. “We are sorry.Valentine not working here long time ago”. And “We are sorry for the inconvenience. Yesterday the power gone in our hotel from morning to 7pm. That is why the number is hardly to contact”. I do not have any positive or negative comment about the property since I didn’t stay there. But there is a minimum expectation from someone who has made a non refundable booking to hear from the property and get answers to questions. At least there should be a valid phone number to contact. I have asked Booking.com to investigate and refund my money. Thank you.

Waking up with the ocean, just opening the door is priceless. This hotel offers you this experience. Excellent if you want to rest, be quiet and relax. It is difficult to move around the hotel. Going to the city is hard, so think about everything you will need. Otherwise, you will need to face 80 stairs to get it. 5 stars to the decoration of the room, on my partner's birthday they provide. It was beautiful!

Aircon was terrible, hot room couldn’t sleep at night. Bed is hard and uncomfortable.Staff weren’t very welcoming or accommodating. Dangerous steep steps to get to location. Not worth value for money. Highly disappointed.
