Amaara Forest Hotel Sigiriya

Very nice hotel, friendly staff, beautiful location, beautiful swimming pool

The staff we're very helpful. Helped us order taxis, and a safari tour. The hotel was beautiful, with big rooms, a big pool and tasty food.

A bit far from the center city. About 20 minutes to the main street

IT WAS A DISASTER, WE WERE GIVEN 2 ROOMS WHICH IS UP AND DOWN, DESPITE TELLING WE ARE TRAVELLING WITH KIDS. IT DID NOT HELP THAT THEY DONT ANSWER QUERIES IMMEDIATELY. ON TOP OF THAT, THE LIGHTS AT THE TOP ROOM WAS NOT WORKING, IN THE LOWER ROOM, THERE WAS A DEAD FROG IN THE TOILET, LEAKING SINK AND GECKOS IN THE ROOM, THE LEVEL OF CLEANLINESS IS POOR. IT WAS PRETTY SCARY AT NIGHT BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH LIGHTS. THE TOILET HAS ONLY ONE LIGHT AND IS QUITE DIM, I DID RESEARCH THOROUGLY AND CHECKED MULTIPLE PLATFORM TO ENSURE THERE IS BUFFET BREAKFAST, HOWEVER WHEN WE GET THERE, THEY SAID THE CAPACITY IS LOW AND THEY WONT PROVIDE BUFFET SO WE HAVE TO CHOOSE EITHER A WESTERN BREAKFAST OR A SRI LANKAN BREAK FAST, WE COULD NOT TOP UP OR ASK FOR EXTRA, THE JUICE TASTED SPOILED. IT WAS DISSAPOINTING. NOT WORTH THE MONEY WE SPENT THERE.

The location in nature is beautiful

It's outdated. Not worth 5 stars. There is mold On the wall in the bathroom. Marks on walls of spilled coffee. Outdated bathroom. The beds were nice as well the size of the room. Swimming pool not clean as aspect for a 5 star. You have to wait and ask for towels and cushions for the beds. Staff does not speak well English. Overall I think it has been a nice place but now it's outdated and maybe just a 3 star

Not a lot

This hotel is beyond terrible. It was a huge disappointment and so beyond overpriced and overrated. It claims to be a 4 star resort. But my god it is so far from it. We all had damp bedrooms. They’d never been aired and all the bedding and wardrobes smelt of mold, and the corners in the rooms were mouldy. We had animal poo on our pillows when we arrived, likely from a mouse or squirrel. We asked to have laundry cleaned, it arrived back in our room still damp, albeit nicely folded. When we went to breakfast, after our damp, noisy, squirrel infested night we were treated by to a cockroach in the pancake buffet. It crawled out of the folds of the pancake.When sat at the pool, no one acknowledged our existence. So then had to serve ourselves from the bar. A number of items on the menu were not available including no sparkling wine or champagne on Christmas Day .The pool table that they list in amenities is not free and all of the cues were broken, despite having to pay to use it.Half of our party were also struck down by food poisoning from the buffet. We’re are certain of this as they are the only ones who had the chicken curry at the morning buffet and were immediately sick that evening. The only positive comment I would say. Is the staff are sweet but very undertrained for the level of service they should be providing. Judging by some of the other bad reviews, the hotel doesn’t seem to take any of these comments on board. This hotel is terrible. Do not stay here unless they are willing to take any of this feedback on board

The people from the reception were very nice, ready to help.Breakfast and the food from the restaurant was good.The jungle envolving the hotel was beautiful.

We went in the end of november and the activities that were advertised weren't available at all.A lot of humidity and molt in the room, but I guess it was expected

The staff were lovely, the place was absolutely beautiful and my family generally enjoyed our stay.I would come back and stay again for an authentic Sri Lankan experience.

The cocktails were hit and miss. One of our meals was disappointing at dinner (mushy soft prawns) but all the other meals were perfect. The pool was also full of bugs, so we chose not to swim.

The rooms and facilities were a little dated and required some maintenance.

Mosquitos in the restaurant at night - but the staff moved us to a table in front of a fan which was much better.

This is a luxury hotel in the jungle of Sigiriya! It was private and all the staff were so friendly! A special thank you to Udayanga, who accommodated all our needs! The wildlife was amazing seeing squirrels, civets, Indian Paradise Flycatcher and goanna’s!!! The food was divine everyday and awesome drinks! We want to bring the family back here!

More attention on cleaning. It is true that it is located in the jungle, so you need to be flexible (eg monkey noises on the rooftop if you have the room on the first floor), but we found a cockroach that then entered a luggage. Only after this episode the room was cleaned in depth, especially the bathroom

We loved the setting in the jungle, the pool was nice and big and the food was varied and delicious. Great location for climbing Lion Rock (10 mins) and the National Parks where we saw over 100 elephants on safari.

Not enough sun beds by the pool. Also, didn't really like the musician coming to individual tables at evening meal.
