We booked a private Villa with private pool and jacuzi. It was as requested. There was a bit access to the street and people from one corner, but they managed to block it with a blanket for more privacyIt’s expensive but worth the money
Amazing location, really big room and excellent service (thanks Ravi!)
I liked the property, the staff were gorgeous - and the location was quite stunning landscape. My feeling was the actual property was more 3/4 star - i think I was over priced for what it was. The staff were extremely sweet, but it was a bit chaotic for a 5 star hotel. Extremely slow service, but from very very lovely people. Lots of power cuts, card machines didn’t work, no yoga mats in the gym, no one to meet you at the gate - we came back from a sunset hike up Lion Rock, and we had to walk in the dark through the estate, which was not very well lit and there is a crocodile (and a wild elephant was roaming around scaring the locals say on our second night)
The landscape, the food, the position
Compared to the price the room was a bit “old”, WiFi completely absent (in case of personal emergency)

The surroundings are stunning - lakes, trees, flowers and so much wildlife. Just wonderful. A really admirable eco-conscious project. The staff are also fabulous
The hotel and the room are very nice and large. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The surroundings were stunning and calm. You could recover very well. The highlight was the crocodile we saw in the lake in the morning.
The Wi-Fi connection is not good.
Clean, unusual, friendly staff
Nothing really
This hotel is incredible and so different to anything we’ve experienced before. You feel like you’ve stepped into paradise the moment you arrive and with the nature and beautiful surroundings. It is a luxurious experience while still being rustic enough to feel like you are in nature. Most of the staff could not do enough for us, and we loved how easy it was to get a buggy to and from our room as the resort is quite big. The swimming pool was amazing and even with being so close to a lake (with a crocodile living in it!) we still felt very safe.
Continuity at meal times could be improved. On our first night we had a designated waiter who delivered an excellent service but the second day a large group had arrived which meant we lost a bit of contact with him and it became a bit disorganised and messy. Portion sizes at dinner could also be more even and restaurant could offer side dishes but that said, the food did taste amazing. It is worth knowing that the bathroom has slats that do not close so insects and frogs do get into the bathroom - but this didn’t bother us much. There is detailed information from the hotel about how to live with the wildlife.
The overall setting is gorgeous
The rooms are outdated, when we arrived we had a room where all flies came in at night so they ended up changing us. Staff is not professional. Our butler had no idea of anything: the prices of experiences, the possibilities.Restaurant is extremely slow. Everything seemed to be overpriced for what they offered. We booked a safari through the hotel and we got a car that was sooo bad and completely rusted with no seat belts. It was terrible.
Absolutely superb high end rooms and fantastic service from Thushara who was allocated to help us during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing and it was fantastic to see the local crocodile on our last day!
The hotel is relatively expensive but no criticisms at all on what we received.
This is a really difficult review to write, as the property is beautiful and it does have the potential to be absolutely amazing. It’s just missing a few key things. The staff are wonderful. Our butler was fantastic. He couldn’t do enough for us. If something wasn’t right he’d fix it, straight away. We were lucky to have him and he made our stay a good one. The staff also stayed up extra late to allow my husband to watch the England vs Spain game, which was very kind.
The hotel was empty and yet they placed us in a room that wasn’t private and didn’t match booking.com description. However, our butler did sort this for us. Food is OK.Private dining was a let down. It is very expensive. The food was average. There is no atmosphere - no music, no candles. I wouldn’t waste the money. There is no music at all in restaurants or by the pool - so there is no relaxing ambiance. Here’s a tip: watch out for the currency conversion when paying. We ended up paying over $100 more than the booking.com price. This left us feeling quite cheated. Not sure whose fault that was.
Resort style .
The property is not cheap and it’s a resort which suppose to serve a better food and facilities. Both food and facilities were poor and the staff English language was very weak.
One of the best places we have ever stayed. We did two tours through the hotel and both were great. ( Elephant Safari & Village Tour) room was amazing- you even get a personal butler! Food was perfect. I am gluten free and they were great. Even made us a gf chocolate cake for our honeymoon! We will be back!
Excellent breakfast, with a large choice. Location is perfect, on a lake with a crocodile...Heidi. Very nice restaurant, lovely barbecue. Buildings made by an excellent architect and on top of that, ecological. They offer their own vegetables and fruits. Butler service: we very much liked our butler, thank you very much Ruwan!
Nothing, everything is perfect.
Great and very friendly staff in all departments of the hotel. The hotel’s very own naturalists are brilliant and are assisting with everything you need for a successful trip or excursion - water, juices, soft drinks and cool refreshing towels are always part of the service. We enjoyed the big pool for all hotel guests as well as our private pool next to the room which helped us to feel really relaxed. The hotel is a true sanctuary and we enjoyed the nature and natural sounds every second of our stay. A minimum 3 nights stay is highly recommended to have enough time to discover the historic places and the nature in this part of Sri Lanka as well as to relax on property (we stayed 4 nights).
The hotel doesn’t offer a TukTuk service for any of the close-by excursions in order to have an even more authentic Sri Lankan experience. But the hired cars with driver are absolutely comfortable.
It was not worth 747.00 dollars for me be night . This room was worth no more than 50.00 dollars. Service was horrible. Booking.com should come out for themself to see their 50 dollar hotel room. I will never book hotel again with booking. They have no idea what they are selling customers for 700 plus . . Worst location, bad service and food was not good at all . Upon arrival it was raining . They took long time to come get us. I mean 700 plus a room per night . Service should awesome. The indoor pool was plugged . I called someone to come fix it and it was was still draining slow. He then left all the dirt in it. I don’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Anyone have question email me. I’m willing to answer any questions regarding this property.
