Thaproban Beach House

Our room was two floors with a balcony. It was spacious and had a nice view. The room had everything we needed, close to the beach. Breakfast was more than enough too. Staff was friendly.

This is not property's fault, however there was music coming from next door venue till late hours and I couldn't sleep because of that.

The rooms on the top floor feel like a bit of a walk up so an elevator would've been good.

Great location. It's on the main drag but towards the end, so you are close to the action, yet get quiet and peace. The staff is absolutely amazing. Everyone walks around with a big smile and offers help with a huge smile. Relaxes you instantly. The room I stayed in was nice. The bed was very comfy with very nice bedding - soft sheets and good pillows. I would stay here again.

The beach restaurant doesn't have the most comfortable chairs. They are not inviting and you can't sit on them for very long.

Staffs were really friendly. Right next to the beach. Food aren't expensive. Since we went on off season it was silent and peaceful.

Shower water flow was slower.Doors are little difficult to close and open and locks are harder to open as well.Room 15 Bathrooms window was little opaque even when closed hence it felt little uncomfortable with privacy.Food was not exceptionally tasty just average.

Staff are amazingly helpful. Peiyanga is the most courteous manager you will ever meet. I had a bad experience at the front desk and he was a big of a help and fully understood the situation when i brought it up.

If you take the family rooms at the ground floor, just watch out for the kitchen being behind you and the noise that comes with that.

The beach was really nice and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was tasty especially the Sri Lankan breakfast. The staff at the reception was very transparent about the currency exchange rate and explained the pricing well. The night staff arranged a nice room in their retreat for us to sleep comfortably without loud music.

There was a musical show following the New Year Festival just one plot next door. The announcing in the evening and the music in the night was unbelievable with the glasses shaking in the room. There were a couple of mosquitoes and there was no mosquito net inspite of being listed in the facilities. The Manager of the next door Beach Villa Hotel harrased us by rudly asking us to leave the sun beds which we didn't know that one was on his side of the beach as there was no clear demarcation. He harassed us by demanding us to buy drinks if we are using his area and shouted at us without giving us enough time to leave. The Taprobane staff didn't ask that Manager not to talk to their customer like that.

Great location, with access to beach and street. The seafront location is sensational. Nothing to hear except the surf of the waves, the balcony was great to sit and watch the beach from.

We booked the Penthouse suite, it states it has 2 rooms. The main room is wonderful with great views and use of space, the second room is a loft. The stairs that go up are really small and tight, very unsafe. I was too scared to carry my luggage up, the A/C drips and the stairs are wet. The windows are boxed, so the curtains don't meet and it is very light in the room, the bed is also uncomfortable. No TV in room, this is not penthouse quality. My friend stayed in the main room which was much better. There are far too many stairs, request rooms on the 1st or 2nd floor.

Perfect location, close to the beach, room was spacious and airy, and kept clean. Staff are so friendly always smiling and happy to chat with you

Very friendly staff

I booked a room called "superior" which cost exactly double the price of a normal room. To my surprise I found myself in a small room with an ugly balcony with no view because it overlooks an ugly area next to this hotel. The shower had really low water pressure and even taking a shower was not pleasant. They write in the AD on line that there is parking for the car but in fact, once you get there, they ask you to go and park your car in a place not close to the hotel without even offering a shuttle service. I often go to Unawatuna and for the price paid I have always had much nicer and larger rooms in other hotels. The only positive note was the staff, very helpful, but you can't find yourself in a room like this paying double the price of a normal room. So you have to ask yourself, what will the "non-superior" rooms be like?

Ac could have been better comparing to the room size but it was comfortable in the end.

Fantastic location right on the beach. Restaurant is really good and the staff were great in organising sunbeds for us.

The rooms need a refresh, they look a bit tired and dated, especially the curtains and bedding.

Although the room I stayed in was completely different from the picture, the breakfast was very impressive. It was my favorite banana juice I had ever tasted, and the breakfast service was also very good

The beach is the only good thing

Hotel Not very clean and really not maintained. The Sri Lankan breakfast is not as tasty as in other places. The room faced the street and all night there were noises of tuk tuks passing by and dogs barking. Within the first hour of our arrival we had a huge cockroach in the bathroom and the answer we received from the hotel was that this is how it is in Sri Lanka. This is the only hotel during our three weeks in Sri Lanka that was very disappointing

Just a few meters away from the beach, located in a great area where you can find shops, restaurants and bars, but not too noisy.

There weren’t enough sun beds for all the guests. Some people just woke up in the morning and put their towel in the sunbed as to reserve it, and they would never return, and the staff of the hotel does not control this kind of things so sometimes you have to sit in other sun beds paying or just laying on the beach and the sun beds will remain empty for the whole day.

The location was right on the beach and the food and staff were amazing.It was particularly special to have a meal on the beach in the evening having just walked out of your room.

The rooms are a little tired and every where could do with a lick of paint.

The hotel arranged an airport pickup which was good. But that's it. After arrival everything went downhill. It is right on the beach and they offer loungers. You can ask for one in the evenings. On Booking.com wine or champagne is mentioned for penthouse bookings. But the hotel said it is a paid service. Again, disappointing as that would've been mentioned on the website itself if it was. The view of the sea-facing room is obstructed. The hotel offers a drop to its other properties near by for the pool facility. We took a golf cart there and towels from our hotel. Around 8am it was empty and so serene. Go for the smaller pool. The restaurant overlooks the bigger pool. We had a great time until the staff stopped us to return the towels without bothering to ask first where we got them from.The fruit is good. Ask for a better plate if the fruit is raw. We were given a plate with white watermelon and saw someone on the next table get a much better plate. After asking, they changed it. It's sad when all guests are treated equally.

Given the beachfront location and pictures, I was trying very hard to get a booking. When I finally got the penthouse for 48k INR, I was thrilled! Sadly, the experience did not meet even the bare minimum expectations. The beach bar beside the hotel has live music nights. It sounds fun. But it isn't when you want to sleep peacefully. The music plays until midnight and you have no choice but to listen to it. A tuk-tuk guy waits outside and shoos off Uber drivers. Sadly, the hotel entertains this bully. During breakfast on the third day, I ordered an omelet. All I got was a fried egg. The waiter forgot our fruit platter and tea too.The first time we ordered food, it was good. Hot but bland. On 22nd they said they are very busy and took half an hour to heat some leftovers and deliver fries to the room. Both were already cold. We had to order from Uber Eats.There is no pool onsite. They will arrange a pickup to any of their other properties near by. This is not mentioned on the website. It was extremely disappointing as the website [Booking.com] positions this hotel with a pool facility.There is no Sri Lankan food available nor plain rice curry except for breakfast. It was spicy but good. The main menu is more focused on American/English taste. It is too bland for Indian taste buds.While having breakfast on our second day, a waiter asked us if we paid our beer bill. This was very insulting because we didn't see anyone else being asked this. Plus, we had JUST checked in the day before. We were told to clear bills at check out. After complaining, they apologised and said he was a trainee. But it really affected our view of their professionalism. The waiter also forgot to bring tea and a fruit platter that's part of the breakfast meal. We left without asking for it because after being insulted that way we didn't want to wait around. The coffee and tea are below average. The omelette is very salty.

The real room conditions really do not match the photos. The hotel is old and the room is poorly lit. Renovation is urgently needed. The doors and windows do not shut completely which means all kinds of bugs, including lots of mosquitoes enter the room. Also, you can hear a lot of noise from the street. Mosquito nets are available on the beds but they have holes. All in all, not a very comfortable stay despite the great location and helpful staff. I think the rooms are clearly below the standard and the pictures are very deceiving.

Staff were excellent! Very friendly and helpful. The location is really good, with a very nice beach and surrounded by restaurants. Room was very comfortable and with an excellent ocean view.Food was really good too!

Although this is not the hotel's fault, in the evening, every single night, there was very loud music coming from a beach club next door, until midnight or even later. We understand that it is a place for holidays and people are having fun, but if you go there to relax and sleep slightly earlier than that, it is close to impossible. Especially if you have to wake up at 3 am for a tour, and you cannot sleep until 1 am the next day. Even earbuds did not help because music was extremely loud

Great location, right on the beach, in the heart of the hustle and bustle. The room was clean and the bathroom was brand new. Staff were very helpful, especially Sandaruwani at the front desk.

This are is a party town and very popular with Russian tourists and those who want to have a good time. Sadly we moved hotels after the first night because the music from the bar next door was too loud and continued past midnight. Staff said it doesn’t usually happen and seemed mortified. Wouldn’t recommend if you want a peaceful holiday.
