Beautiful setting and pool, very comfortable rooms, great friendly and attentive service from all staff

I stayed here with my sister for three nights. I highly recommend this place. It is beautiful, the rooms are spacious and so clean and the bed was so comfortable. The breakfast is amazing and our last night we had dinner at their restaurant and it was great. The best thing about this place is the staff. Everyone was so welcoming, helpful and just amazing. I will definitely come again to this hotel. It is so pretty and luxurious but with a homelike feel.

Staff were lovely, especially happy to chat away in English (rather than Russian!). Very helpful with directions for walks, getting taxis and tuktuks. Good WiFi, quiet room, great shower. Breakfast was a buffet - hit and miss, but French toast, omelette and fruit were always good. They have two sister properties and it was an unexpected bonus to be able to use the pool in one and the beach beds in the other.

Odd scent in the bathroom throughout - tried to air it but never left. Furnishings could do with a lot of updating. In terms of value for money, this felt very expensive for what it was (especially compared to a whole range of other places and price brackets we experienced in Sri Lanka) - sadly probably the way Unawatuna has shifted with so much Russian money having changed the whole vibe of the place.

The hotel is set in a beautiful and dense garden (if not jungle). The staff was friendly and always helpful. I personally liked the room a lot and slept very well. The fact that the hotel lies a bit back from the beach is a huge advantage, since it is exceedingly calm. A short walk of maybe 5 minutes gets you to the beach. You can even use the beach front facilities of another hotel belonging to the same owner.

The rooms we stayed in were rather dark and a bit damp, but that cannot be helped, I guess. It didn't bother me very much and putting on the AC for a bit mostly remedied the problem.

Excellent hotel in a beautiful setting. Staff are amazing and so helpful. Delicious breakfast and very laid back atmosphere. You can also use the beach club from the sister hotel which is only a few minutes walk away and the hotel will provide towels at no cost.

We loved everything!

I had a room above the yoga area; large room, that was clean and spacious. Everything was clean and well maintained. The pool didn’t look used (maybe because it was slightly out of season) so I went to one of their sister hotels by the beach; I fill recommend that for the day! The sunset by the rocks was stunning. Great breakfast at the retreat and great service amongst the staff. Great location too, only a couple of minutes to the Main Street of Unawatuna.

Thambapanni Retreat was one of the best hotels we stayed at during our trip to Sri Lanka. It has a rustic vibe to its facility and has quality amenities. The room was as mentioned on Booking.com and also came with a complimentary massage option. Surprisingly, the staff also gave us an option to use the nearby Thaproban Waves swimming facility which we gleefully accepted. All in all, it's a value for money hotel with near perfection in what they offer. Note - Breakfast spread was delectable!

The thing I will remember most about our stay here was how incredibly friendly and accommodating the staff were. Enjoyed the breakfast too.

The room didn’t let in much natural light. However, it was spacious and we didn’t spend much time in it anyway.

The property was really clean and as shown in photos. The staff were really friendly. Breakfast was also a great buffet selection. Really cool jungle around with monkeys. Good location to walk into town.

It was quite expensive compared to other stays around and price wasn’t really just. It was very noisy from surrounding rooms.

Very friendly crew and very helpful. The location is also very quiet and calm. Food is also great ?. They have other two hotels and we can use the facilities of those hotels also.

Very helpful staff and relaxing atmosphere. They went to extra effort to create a truly memorable wedding anniversary for us.

The hotel is. situated in a green and quite location, just a short walk from Unawatana beach. Staff is very attentive and thoughtful. Breakfast is wonderful, with fresh fruit every morning and a buffet of Sri Lankan and western choices. Even the coffee was good, which is pretty unique in Sri Lanka! Our two rooms were on the edge of the wonderful pool.

There’s not much to not like. The rooms are in blocks in multiple locations. This was no problem for us, but can lead to a small walk to central facilities. We were invited to check the 3 other hotels of the group, but unfortunately did not have enough time to do so.

The decor of this hotel is very tastefully done. We really loved the pool and the grilled fresh seafood at night. Have to say the staff here we're amazing especially Anil!

Nice property. Lovely welcoming staff that were so helpful and provided welcome drink for us.

We did not stay after because the pool was drained for maintenance and we were not informed so we stayed at sister hotel for a bit extra.

The stuff is very polite, friendly and always eager to help. We received recommendations on what to do while being in Unawatuna and they were very helpful. The food from of the restaurant is very tasty.

The room is lacking the natural light.

Room 104, 4th floor.Every morning from 6:00 till 6:30 monkeys came for bananas - it is amazing!Staff is fantastic!The kitchen in restaurant is one of the best in Una!

Great quiet location but very close to the beach, Room was large and had a separate dressing room, semi outside bathroom and large Balcony overlooking the pool and monkeys in the trees. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent and authentic.
