- The location of Kaigetsu is the best. Nothing better thank to wake up to see the beautiful waterfront view. Food was good and the Okami san was lovely and very kind.
- I don’t recommend this, go other Ryokan.
Cons -
- The bathing facilities were well aged and could use some care.
- I booked this hotel on Booking.com and payment by app and card were accepted at when I made the booking. But they refused payment by app nor credit card o site. I told I don’t have cash but they insist so I needed to borrow money from someone. This is insane, they use booking.com as platform but they don’t want to pay fee to app nor credit card company. Just they want to earn a little of additional money, they put me extremely shameful situation. And worth to note that the room was very noisy during the night, maybe cleaning bath and somewhere in the facility. Walls were thin enough to hear neighbors use bathroom. I believed you can find better place.
- The bath area was a little dated, needs some work which we think the hotel is starting to do.

Great location, friendly welcoming staff and amazing breakfasts.Whilst a little faded, an effort is still made with beautiful fresh flowers, and excellent attention from the staff. As we left we were presented with lunch for our onward journey.

Fantastic location right by the harbor. This traditional accommodation has charm. The hosts are extremely kind. We had a fantastic vegetarian dinner which they prepared. Breakfast was also excellent.
The property could use some updates but has great bones.
We spent one night at Toba and this traditional family-run inn was wonderful. Our room had a large window with a view to the sea and the islands. Breakfast was the traditional Japanese type with small dishes in colourful tablewares. The building was certainly not new but the guest room was clean and comfortable. The host and the staff were warm and friendly. We were given two complimentary homemade onigiri (Japanese rice balls) after checkout. The onigiri were delicious.
Though the pictures on the site do not truly represent the present state of the hotel (which needs some serious updating), we had a wonderful visit. The hotel is clean and the rooms are large, clean and very comfortable. The breakfast delicious and the care of the two women running the hotel was exceptional. The location is great, close to restaurants and tourist sites. Besides providing a generous Japanese style breakfast, they prepare a lunch and fruit for each guest as well. We enjoyed the yukatas that we were provided so much, that we asked if we could purchase to take home. They kindly gave them to us a gift! Highly recommend!!
None!
Location, morning rice balls, location
We were not aware ythat this place was a ryokan.
Kaigetsu is a very clean Japanese inn. We had comfortable beds and the lady running the inn is lovely. It is very popular with Japanese guests
You just need to be aware that it no longer looks like the photos. While it is getting old and run down, when you look past all that, the stay was pleasant
Although it isn’t as flash as it looked in the pictures, this was one of the most amazing places I’ve ever stayed. The ladies spoke limited English, but made us feel so welcome on arrival, it almost felt like long lost family. The room was enormous with quilts being excessively fluffy and cozy.Although we didn’t have time to finish it, a traditional FRESHLY made, abundant, breakfast was provided by a chatty aunty type who I didn’t understand but loved. Gorgeous and delicious. And then as we left, Grandmother gave us rice balls and fresh fruit to take with us.
Couldn’t find a heater when we checked in; but jumped in bed and got super cozy very quickly.
Staying at Kaigetsu gave us a truely traditional Japanese experience. Plenty of room to spread out, close to the train station, ferry terminal, restaurants and only a couple of 100 metres to Mikimoto Pearl Island. This is a fantastic base to explore all that the beautiful Ise Peninsula has to offer. We were treated like family.
Very traditional Japanese style inn, rooms are simple, and staff are very nice and helpful, the handmade onigiris that they give to you when you check out is especially delicious and heartwarming
The public bath is a bit small
Lovely hospitality from the hostess and careful touches makes this relaxing ryokan like a quant blast from the past. So relaxing with large rooms and cute, well-maintained onsen on site.
Location, staff, comfortable
Slightly dated hallways
Location is very close to train station (from both major lines). Nice area to walk around with a mix of the old and new and the sea. Some major attractions (Mikimoto Island and Toba aquarium) within 3 minute walk.Breakfasts are traditional Japanese (not western) so very nice if you like real Japanese style. The family room is quite large.Didn't try their dinners but many (seafood) dining choices nearby, as well as a take-out freshly made Bento box within 2 minutes walk. We found the restaurant Sazanami (next to Bento shop) was excellent for a Japanese style restaurant with large fried prawns but other things as well. We did a 1/2 day excursion into the national park and to have shellfish lunch with the women who dive for them. A good experience provided you like BBQ shellfish as I do. Kaito Yumin Club is next door to hotel and runs the trips. We would have liked to stay more than 3 nights.
We are not young but we're OK with a 3rd floor room with stair access. The owners carried our bags for us. There may not always be an English speaking person on hand, so hand-waving was needed to communicate, but the Japanese are very kind.
The staff are very friendly. They even prepared lunch (饭团)for guests when we went out for sightseeing. The 饭团 is delicious.
The facilities and building are a bit old especially the onsen. But if guests like old building, it should be ok.
Convenient location near the train station. Very welcoming host. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent in quality with generous portions. Comfortable bed in the room. Also a very nice and thoughtful touch to give us onigiri and fruit for the lunch on our day of departure.
The owner and the staff are very helpful. Despite old age, the aunty was very strong to carry our big luggages up to 3rd floor. The owner packed lunch( 饭团)for us when we went out.The room is clean.
The facilities were slightly old but still function well. Sometimes can hear train passing by because the place is near the train station.
Wife & I had a lovely and delicious dinner experience at Kaigetsu. Breakfast was also an excellent and fulfilling Japanese Ryokan experience. The Hostess and staff were delightful. Wife is rusty and hasn't regularly conversed in her native language & I didn't adequately practice; but, we managed to have some pleasant communication thanks to Google Translation on the iPhone. The Hostess sent us off each day with a couple rice balls & tangerine for each of us; a beautiful touch. The Onsen was fine after a long day of sightseeing.
Could use an elevator (LOL)
The location is very good. It is very close to the port, and you can take the cruise to the nearby islands. It is also at the intermediate station on the Shima Meitetsu Line. In addition to local attractions, it is very convenient to go to Shima City or Ise City.
