The view of Mt Fuji from the room is spectacular, and the location is good for getting to / from train stations and Fuji Q Highland.
I enjoyed both the service and the cleanliness.

We LOVED everything about this wonderful hotel - somewhat of a hybrid of traditional Japanese ryokan & western hotel. Rooms were large and well appointed, the staff was delightful (despite language communication challenges) & close to Mt Fuji. Bravo!

Top Tips
- Secure hotel reservations near Mt. Fuji 60-90 days in advance for the July-August climbing season or Golden Week (late April-early May), as rates can double or triple and rooms fill quickly. Early booking ensures more choices, including major hotel chains near Kawaguchiko and Fujiyoshida.
- Select a hotel in Kawaguchiko for lakeside views and direct highway buses from Shinjuku (85-120 minutes), or choose Fujinomiya for quicker access to the 5th Station climbing trails. Leading hotel chains in both areas offer multilingual staff and concierge services.
- Carry ¥5,000-¥20,000 (approx. $32-$128 USD) cash per person per night, since many traditional ryokan and smaller shops may not accept foreign credit cards. Major hotel chains and convenience stores like 7-Eleven or Japan Post have onsite ATMs supporting international cards.
- Before booking, ask about tattoo policies, as many area onsen prohibit visible tattoos. Some hotels offer private onsen reservations (¥2,000-¥5,000 or approx. $13-$32 USD extra) to support privacy for guests with tattoos or special needs.
- Pack layered clothing, as Mt. Fuji's 5th Station sits at 2,300 m and is typically 10-15°C (18-27°F) colder than Kawaguchiko. Leading hotels frequently offer luggage storage so you can travel light for excursions.
- Check transit schedules before evening arrivals, since buses and local trains to Kawaguchiko and Fujiyoshida typically end service by 20:00-21:00. Some hotels provide shuttle options to help bridge late connections; confirm availability in advance.
- Request accessible or step-free rooms when booking if you need elevators or western beds. Many traditional ryokan use tatami floors and futons, but large hotel chains offer step-free access and Western-style bedding.
- Expect fixed dinner times at ryokan (usually 18:00-19:00). If you have dietary requirements, notify the hotel 48-72 hours in advance for alternatives; international hotels often have flexible meal options and can accommodate food restrictions.
- Verify Wi-Fi service if planning remote work. Large hotels around Kawaguchiko usually offer stable Wi-Fi, while small ryokan may have limited or variable connectivity. Contact your hotel in advance to confirm speed and access.
