This small family-run hotel is beautifully located between the Werden and Kettwig districts of Essen, 4.3 mi from Lake Baldeneysee and 5 mi from the Folkwang Museum. Hotel Rutherbach offers free WiFi. The bright and modern rooms and apartments include a flat-screen TV and cable channels, a desk and a private bathroom with shower. Bed linen and towels are provided. Beautiful place around, nice quiet area, nice hotel ,very comfortable beds. Wonderful host, thank you very much. We will be back :)
Family run hotel, everyone we came in contact with was very friendly and welcoming. Due to our travel situation we requested a check-in outside of the normal hours that was easily accommodated with a smile. Typical German breakfast was perfect, everything was fresh and tasty. It's an old building and it shows but the rooms were nicely decorated and charming. We will certainly book again on our next trip to Essen.

Not much to say here, everything was as described and met all of our needs.
It was horrible from the moment it was booked. Problems getting back from the host. They would answer one question but not most. It says they speak English but this is limited. On arrival the reception was closed. We had no warning of this but luckily my phone still had some battery left so able to phone. On phoning the man informed me it was a safety box and told me the password but this wouldnt have happened if Id no charge on phone. Getting to the room it was stuffy and hot. No fans were provided to help the air circulate. It was 30 degrees on arrival.No kettle was provided and lamps were positioned far away from power points. There was a stale odour. The cupboard in the room was old and when trying to put things away the handle fell off. In the morning breakfast was disappointing hard bread and a few bits of cooked meat and cheese. No fruit put out. Even though the hotel was almost empty we were threatened with an extra charge, even though we were out of our room by 11:06. On checking out they added an extra 5 for my daughter as I had mistakenly put her in as a 1 year old but she was 15. This wouldve been ok had she been able to eat anything more than a bowl of cereal. I had booked the room for three people so that was needed. Location is appalling, on a busy road. No sleep was had by any of our party. When checking out I raised these issues and the receptionist said she had been kind. Im not sure that we share the same understanding of kind. I paid 130 for her to be kind.
