I requested assistance with restoring power to the room on three separate occasions. Each time, the staff acknowledged the issue but did not take any action and indicated they would refer the matter to management, without providing a timeline or resolution. I was also concerned that the heater was no longer available in the room. While I did not formally follow up on this matter, the lack of support contributed to a disappointing experience.

The architecture of the hostel is nice, it feels like being at summer camp. There are free surfboards and bicycles available, which is cool.

It could be a bit cleaner, and the staff are friendly but not particularly cheerful. There were a few cockroaches in the kitchen, and there's no air conditioning, so it gets hot in summer.

Amazing location right near the beach and short stroll to the ocean baths. Very hospitable and friendly staff. Great facilities, and the emphasis on sustainability is great!

Fireplace going all day and night, very spacious and clean! Got the luck of being only myself in the share room. There’s a heater in each room and extra blankets! 10/10

The Location and the fact that there are only 2 hostels in Newcastle makes it acceptable!!!

Extremely outdated and unclean, not quite dirty but dust all over the floor and corners and cockroaches all over the place haha, they put All the sheets on the beds and you need to physically put everything on and take it off when checking out!!!!! What on earth?!

Stay was excellent, it would be more better if staff explain you direction of room, direct you for shared toilets, laundry kitchen, she did tell after I asked which way I can go, reception girl was nice but more good if these questions explained before asked.Also she didn't tell me about parking where to park or not, she could have said that YHA has no parking beforehand

I liked everything about my stay, can't be more better.

I was really impressed with the accommodation facilities I stayed at last weekend, affordable, very clean neat and tidy premises, friendly staff and conditions if utilities in perfect order.

Certainly wasn’t as clean in the kitchen as usual. Pleased to see some cleaning staff to help. Fridge and food storage space a problem.

I really liked the location of the joint. near the beach and close to public transportation and coffee shops. bathroom is easy accessible by disability person. free Aboriginal tour was great.

Disappointing.

Both nights involved arriving after 9pm when the check-in desk front door is locked. Both times I called the front desk well before 9pm, advised the staff member I was going to be arriving after 9pm and each of the times was promised to have the door code emailed to me. And both times this did not occur, even though I verbally confirmed my email address. They also had my mobile phone number. The day before the second night I went to speak to a staff member to get the door code at 12.30pm and it was not even staffed at a time it says it's staffed. When I tried to speak to a staff member after the second time this occurred the following morning, I got a bad attitude and no apology. I was let into the building by other guests out of hours. This is not a good situation and exposes staff incompetence. This kind of incompetence is potentially dangerous. Had these kind guests not let me in I'd have been on the street.

Was a bit dirty and I got bitten by midges that caused an itchy rash that is still there 4 weeks later

You can't even get a refund when you modify your booking or cancel, what kind robbery is this, we come here for the cheap price, not looking for cheapness, asking for help from the government not people who live here. FFS

I called earlier and was told that there was a male vacancy available. However, when I arrived to check in, they said there were no male vacancies and asked me to cancel. I canceled, but now Booking has emailed them, and they refuse to approve the cancellation. This is ridiculous! Such a big hotel, yet they are lying. They are discriminating against Asians.

Someone stole my shoes from dormitory room . And i told to the authorities and they said they don’t know anything about it and just apologised

Good location, easy check in and check out, good value for money

We went into our room and got set up and jumped into bed only to find out that there were 3 blokes who were put in our room. So we had 5 people in a 4-bed dorm room.
