    • We had a superb trip to Galle staying at the Sun House. It is the perfect base for exploring the town and being able to come back to a small slice of paradise to relax by the pool, in the gardens or around the house. The food was brilliant, staff incredibly friendly and the cocktails were brill.
    • Exceptional in every aspect! It was 11/10 on all dimensions. The location is superb — perfect for Galle trips and just a short drive from the beach. The architecture and design are simply beyond and above; you could easily spend hours admiring the beautifully and tastefully decorated villa, the lush garden, and the surrounding jungle — truly a feast for the eyes. It’s a quiet and peaceful place. The chef, breakfast selection, all-day menu, and service are top-notch — think curry clams with garlic bread! The staff were incredibly helpful with anything and everything, and the in-room service was exceptional — on par with what you’d expect from Small Luxury Hotels of the World. If there’s one thing worth splurging on, I’d strongly recommend booking a higher-category room — it will triple your experience of the space for probably just an extra ~$100.
    • One of the most stunning properties of our Srilanka Trip, if you love heritage boutique and colonial styled properties this is a place for you. We absolutely loved the place, its decor and service !!

    Cons -

    • If of any relevance to anyone, a fridge with refreshments in the room. That's pretty much it.
    • Everything was perfect !!
    • No connection in room for service. I was sick with food poisoning but had to go to the bar for lemonade. I asked for a second lemonade to be brought to my room for an hour later but it was forgotten so I had to get up again to get the second one. NO TVNoise coming from neighbourhood intrusive .

Tucked away in serene elegance, this colonial-style gem boasts breathtaking beauty, impeccable interior and garden design, exceptional service, and delectable dining

    Everything was fine

Absolutely gorgeous colonial style hotel with very friendly and attentive staff. The bedroom that we stayed in was gorgeous with a semi-open air shower that we enjoyed. We loved sitting outside the room and watching the monkeys in the ancient mango tree and swimming in the pool at dusk watching the bats. The breakfast was huge and delicious and the cocktails were expertly made.

Lunch and dinner in the hotel restaurant did not quite live up to the breakfast and the cocktails

Exquisite attention to detail, extremely attentive accommodating hosts, playing chess in grand living room, beautiful pool area perfect for cooling off in. Staying here has been heaven. Bath salts provided was a lovely touch, room was beautiful

That we didn’t stay for longer

The beautiful, historical home, its decoration, the on-site restaurant and bar and the super helpful staff.

An absolute delight, the Sun house was a haven. The rooms were beautiful and gardens serene. The staff were super attentive and the food top notch. It will be number one on our list to stay when we make our return to Sri Lanka.

    10TracyPosted on: 4-3-2025

We have been in Sri Lanka for 3 weeks touring & have stopped in some lovely hotels but the Sun House has absolutely been the best. A beautiful tranquil property but very close to the main sights of Galle. The attention to detail was perfect, beautiful rooms, amazing food for both breakfast & dinner. Staff exceptionally kind & helpful. We have no hesitation in recommending.

    9MaryPosted on: 4-2-2025

Our room was stunning, plenty of room for 2 kids, 2 adults. We stayed in a room with an outdoor bath with monkeys in the trees outside. The guesthouse is well located with 2 min journey to old Galle. Food in the restaurant was very good and staff we so attentive and kind.

    Nothing. It was fabulous.

Super friendly efficient staff.our terrace room was looking down to the pool area lovely four poster bed with clean crisp cotton linen and fresh towels. The mosquito net made for a romantic feel,.Christine had her birthday during our visit and the management laid on a birthday ? cake which rounded off a perfect day. All the food was presented beautifully and always tasted as good as it looked. The area surrounding the hotel is really nice and quiet, but there is a uphill walk returning from town, we found no problem taking the walk.but others might like to take a Tuk Tuk the cost is around £2 and we'll worth it in the hot afternoon.

Just perfect. Great food, cosy rooms, beautiful property, most wonderful staff, and good location too. Walkable to Galle Fort (10min if at all)

    10CharlottePosted on: 3-23-2025

The food is incredible, the location is perfect and you forget you’re in a busy city. The staff are so so on it, they bring out water to you in the hottest points to the day by the pool & sometimes ice lollies. They arranges me a massage & guided us around the premises.

    Nothing, this was perfect.

    10MarthaPosted on: 3-16-2025

Lovely hotel and garden, best cocktails we have had in Sri Lanka from the bar. Comfortable room with everything you need including watching monkeys from the window. Staff were very helpful and friendly

It is a bit out away from the centre, we liked it as was cooler and quieter up the hill but we did need to get tuk tuks as was so hot to walk

    10NigelPosted on: 3-15-2025

Breakfast & evening meal were excellentStaff extremely helpful & friendly.Quiet & peaceful.Brought a celebratory anniversary cake to our table

    All very good

Fabulous tranquillity in the centre of Galle Lovely room and very comfy bed Breakfast was good. lovely settings and very friendly and helpful staff. Very easy walk to the Fort

The bath outside was quirky, but would have preferred a table and chairs to be able to sit, have a drink and enjoy the antics of the troop of monkeys in the afternoons

Me and my sister had a great stay, the hotel offers top level hospitality, Michael the general manager is amazing, super professional and attentive, we got offered an upgrade to our room and a late check out. The whole staff is very kind and really looked after us. The place itself is beautiful, tranquil, and elegant.

This is by far the most idyllic property that I’ve ever stayed in. The room/suite is designed to perfection - effortlessly understated and at the same time luxurious. Every piece of furniture feels carefully curated to capture the essence of this stunning colonial home. It is wonderful to have the quiet escape of the drawing room with ample space to sit and lose yourself in a book, or play a game of chess. The beautiful veranda, overlooking the gardens, provides a similar haven of peace.Dinner last night was sublime, clean, fresh, wonderful local produce created exceptional and tantalising tastes. And a beautiful bar where the most refreshing drinks are created. The tropical gardens provide the perfect setting from which this morning I listened to the dawn chorus and watched the sunrise, before having a private yoga session with Charman. Breakfast was another delight, with fresh fruits freshly baked bread and a choice of European or Sri Lankan fare couples with a magnificent and health giving ginger and turmeric drink to start. The pool, sitting to the back of the lush tropical gardens, is sunken like a Roman bath, and provides a refreshing contrast to the heat of the midday sun. Each of the sun loungers, hidden behind plants to continue that sense of privacy. Michael, the general manager, and his team are exceptional. There is nothing they can’t do and they are on hand to answer all your needs while remaining subtly and unobtrusively in the background. I cannot thank the team and the owners enough for creating such an incredible space, allowing its guests to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the town outside, a short walk down the hill. As you walk l through the doors into the courtyard, they have truly created a magical oasis where time stands still, and its guests can immerse themselves in the sounds of nature in beautiful surroundings. It is perfection. Thank you so much.
