    • Very clean and so many choices for the food and drink. The man who was serving at the library for night snack was very nice.He was very nice to all guests even late night. Also,A chef at the dinner,He was so helpful for explaining about food.
    • The buffet. A wide spread of food and everything was delicious. Usually buffets are not the case but this one is different. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The lounge has a free flow of non alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. Onsens are wide and clean. We spent 20k yen per person which is worth the food and onsen. Anything more and I would recommend another Ryokan.
    • Really nice options for baths at different temperatures.

    Cons -

    • I was expecting that hotel staffs are nice from the price and looks but it wasn't.
    • The rooms are clearly old. I was shocked that certain features were still existing in the toilet. The balcony is not maintained and dirty. We even saw a dead bat on the balcony. This is the first time where customers are expected to move the luggage by themselves. When a car pulls up to a Ryokan, you will definitely see a staff come up to guide you to parking and take the luggage, well not here. We were told to take a cart to move the luggage. We saw other customers do this as well. I would not recommend the private onsen. It's basically a normal room with an onsen. The public one is definitely better.
    • It would be better if instead of having one bath for men in the morning and women in the evening and the other bath vice versa, it would be nice to have them alternate everyday, so one bath stays the men’s bath the whole day, then it switches to women’s the next day so that you can have all baths at different times

Taoya Akiu is, in short, fantastic. Location is 2min walking from the bus stop from/to Sendai, but to get there and from there they offer a free shuttle bus (require reservation, ideally now than one day before). The few attractions in the area are all reachable by walking. The resort is huge but services are distributed well and moving around is efficient. Basically everything is included in the price and offered as part of the staying: there are free drink -including alcoholic beverages- and snacks, you can choose your yukata among the different colours avaliable. There are multiple relaxing areas which are all nice and cozy, and there is even a shop inside. The onsen (baths) are gorgeous as you see in the pics. There are 4, two indoor and two outdoor that are assigned in pair to males and females, switching every day (this is standard for Onsen places) so you can try both even if you only stay one night.Check in and out are quick and staff is polite as always in Japan. Both dinner and breakfast are buffet style with quite a huge selection. The room is amazing, large for Japanese standards (and I mean really large) and beautiful with beds in a japense style section in the middle of the room.Super recommended.

TAOYA Akiu is a excellent Japanese onsen hotel near Sendai. The room is super clean and the size of the room is perfect for small family to live in. The food is delicious especially the Japanese cuisine. The hotel offers the free drinks to all guests all day.

The hotel is about 30 mins driving distance from Sendai train station and offer limited shuttle bus service to guests. If people miss the shuttle bus , you have to take public transport to the hotel. It could be good to provide more shuttle bus service to guest arriving or leaving from Sendai

We loved everything about our stay. The staff, the facilities, the room, the food, the baths, enjoying yukata life. We have been travelling around Japan for weeks and this place was the first place to feel like a relaxing holiday. We were a little concerned given the cost that we wouldn't find it worth it but we loved it and only wish we could have stayed longer. A very memorable time

    We loved everything

The all inclusive dinner and breakfast buffet were delicious! Quality was great with lots of seafood options and local delicacies.

Checkout was really early at 10am. One more hour would have allowed us to sleep in a little, have breakfast and enjoy a last dip in the onsen.

    10HinPosted on: 10-7-2024

We booked a half board accommodation, include buffet breakfast and dinner, afternoon light snack with free flow of drinks. Huge room with good view. Onsen is spectacular. hotel staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Free hotel shuttle bus to Sendai station, need to book in advance.

breakfast and buffet spread are the same everyday , get bored after two days stay .

Everything was perfect. From the onsens to the food and the facilities, there wasn't one thing we would change or complain about. Definitely was the highlight of our trip.

The hot springs was clean and well maintained

Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely front desk lady. However, when we asked her questions, her answers were vague and confusing. After traveling all day our encounter with her was very frustrating.

    8NagisabaliPosted on: 8-18-2024

The Onsen feeling, the facilities and the free snack bar is FOC to guests so we can enjoy freely

The staff when the first time check in, the Japanese lady who greet in the front and the lady who take care our check in. They are not really polite and they can't speak English at all but even they didn't show a hospitality gesture to me as foreigner guests. Their attitude is ruined up our check in impression but by the time we stay several days finally we can feel the hospitality of others staffs in the FO, Onsen dept and housekeeping department. If I can suggest you to check the old Japanese greeter and the Japanese lady in FO, she can't even smile and never showing hospitality at all with less English which is still ok if she can show at least polite Japanese gesture.

    Onsen and food is ok

Non-English speaking front desk. I asked for direction and never got the right answer. I asked if the baskets in the room were souvenir and ok to take home and was told OK. When leaving with baskets we got chased and told we can’t take the baskets with us. WTH?

New, beautifully furnished property. There were free alcoholic drinks available at meal time and in the lounges that might appeal to some guests

Staff attitude was a little snooty. Staff chases guests out of dining room after a limited time at breakfast and dinner even though the hotel was very expensive.

Great location, spa was amazing, very relaxing. Friendly staff.

Couldn’t find an ice machine. Otherwise everything was great.

Classic onsen hotel, and an excellent chance to soak in the geothermal water at Akiu. Very helpful staff (N.B. not all staff speak English, but Google translate is very helpful.) The buffet dinner had lots of good options (though, again, take your smartphone so you can translate the labels.) Quite good value, when you consider the included meals. I didn't realise there was a shuttle service available from Sendai JR station - it is possible to get to Akiu on a public bus, but it takes a while, and isn't very regular.

I didn't think the choices available in the included alcohol package were that good - I'd have been happier to pay slightly less for the package, and be able to pay additionally for anything I wanted to drink. Check out time of 10 was a little earlier than I'd have liked (I could have spent a little longer in the baths.)

    10KarrinePosted on: 5-15-2024

Food was great. It was nice to have continued snacks and drinks in the lobby all day. Midnight curry udon was fun. The baths were beautiful.

Taoya Aiku is a beautiful hotel. The lounge provide free drinks and snacks through the day free. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style. Very generous spread of Japanese cruisine, small corner of Italian, soft drinks, beer, coffee/tea, wide variety of soda to mix on your own for both breakfast and dinner (of course no beer during breakfast). There are also massage chairs, a beautiful library, table tennis and karaoke room, all free but need to reserve with the front desk. A perfect place to rest and relax without need to venture out. The onsen is big and spacious, has both indoor and outdoor. The room was slightly older but is well kept. We booked a big ryoken room for 6 of us to spend 3 nights together. This place is not within walking distance of train or bus station and definitely need to drive unless you are planning to take their shuttle service. All the staff only speaks Japanese and majority of the guests are local. Nice because more privacy and quiet environment. It is a very nice hotel which emphasise on comfort and style.

I think their room needs to be upgraded to match the hotel luxurious entrance, lobby and interior design. And is good that they do not have mass volume tourist that may spoil the quiet embience and tranquility. Their indoor onsen is not very well designed because the cold air escape inside which makes it quite chilling during winter. I was quiet surprised to see the top window open slightly which might be the cause of the cold air. Overall is a good experience for me and we all enjoyed our stay for the 3 nights.
