Pros +
- Perfect location, great view from room, delicious breakfast with many options for everyone (the tempura was my favorite), Library Lounge offers a cool hang out spot, spa was nice, free bike rentals (the bikes were in excellent condition!), and the staff was so helpful throughout my entire stay!
- My room was smaller than I expected, (typical Japanese small), but very clean and comfortable. On the other hand, the bathroom was bigger than what you get in a lot of Japanese hotels, which I appreciated. From my room, I didn't have a view of the castle, but rather of the city, which was OK with me. You get a nice view of the castle every time you go to take the elevator, or while enjoying your free drink in the lounge. The public bath also wasn't particularly spacious, but when I went, I was the only one there, and soaking in the bath with the nice view of the castle was a real treat. I give high marks to the staff (front desk & restaurant). They were all very pleasant and helpful. My Japanese is good, and I don't need English from the staff, but the English support here seems sufficient, so if you don't know much or any Japanese, you should still be fine. The breakfast was a real highlight. My favorites were the made-on-the-spot tempura, and the "chef's special curry", but truly everything that I had from the nice variety of options was fresh and very tasty. The hotel's location is perfect, right next to the castle. And the walk from the station, which was only about 6 or 7 minutes, was a little shorter than I thought it would be, which was a blessing because it was the middle of August and very hot. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
- Very clean, close to Hikone Castle, free shuttle to and from the station. Great breakfast with both Japanese and Western options. Nice public bath.
Cons -
- Some of the other guests were rude.
- The service is poor. The answer to everything was a no! They couldn’t give us a room with a view or a 2 person table at the restaurant for dinner later that day even though we had had no lunch. Breakfast winds up at 930 and nothing is available after that - very strange we thought. You travel all the way to Hikone and no restaurant feeds you between 3 and 600pm. Not even your hotel …
- I made a two night stay at this hotel more than a month in advance. When I arrived, they said they were fully booked for dinner. I asked about the next night and the earliest they had available was 8 PM with a price that was about four times the average price of a meal in Japan. Of course it was an excellent menu, but I knew nothing about the quality of the food from reviews I had seen. At first I booked it, but then decided against it.It was probably a wise decision because the buffet breakfast, while pleasant enough, did not compare with many of the other breakfasts I have had in JapanAlso, I have been going to Japan for about two months every year for the last four years. In total, I have probably visited Japan about 40 times in my life. For a hotel of this quality, the communication with the front desk staff was the most difficult I have ever experienced. When I came back from dinner at another place, I asked if they had coffee and dessert available. They sent me to the convenience store next-door where I ended up buying a refrigerated pudding and a bottle of water to take to my room.At first, I did not want to review this hotel because the two problems above do not deter from the good qualities of which is proximity to places people want to visit as well is a very reasonable price. Also, I believe the spa is well regarded although I did not use it.The room was far from spectacular and very small but very adequate given such a low price.

The view, the onsen, the massage were great! The onsen overlooks the castle which is quite lovely.

Good location to castle as well as historical town and railroad station.

The room was very comfortable, the facilities were great too, going up the elevator there’s a beautiful view of the castle. The staff was friendly and kind, breakfast was great!
Great location and excellent facilities.Staffs are very friendly and helpful.Room is clean and provided hot spring suite is elegant and well done.
Bath room door.
Very clean, great you can hire a bike and explore. Their recommendation for dinner was cheap and the best Goza I’ve ever had. Parking was free too.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Provided for several requests during my stay. Great food at breakfast and dinner.
Would not allow people with tattoo’s in the onsens. Beds were a little bouncy for my taste.
Great location close to station with view of Hikone castle from the public bath, terrace and lounge. Public bath was great, and you even got free drinks (ice tea, juice, beer, coffee) in the lounge afterwards. The hotel provides yukata for hotel use which was nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and included several local specialities for Hikone/Shiga area.
The walls of my room were quite thin - I could hear people talking outside in the corridor and also some noises from other rooms/people coming and going. It was bearable though.
Right next to Hikone Castle and has a very good view of the castle in the hot spring bath. The staff were very professional.
Can't think of any. Maybe, the amenities in the bath.
The location was awesome close to and a view of the Castle! What more could you need. Room was comfortable and met my expectations. Was able to work at the desk without any issues. WiFi was good. They even offer complimentary drinks in the lounge. I arrived about an hour early and was able to check in right away and head to my room. Great hotel! Would definitely stay here again.
Nothing found during this trip.
If you're staying in Hikone, this is the place to do it. The staff are professionals - accommodating in every way, from checking-in and out, help with luggage forwarding, to breakfast. The rooms are a bit dated, but are well kept and maintained - has a bit of charm to it. The location is convenient, next to cafes and restaurants, as well as within walking distance to Hikone Castle and the Train station. The breakfast offered had a lot of variety as well and very high quality.
My only complaint is that the Public Bath is not tattoo-friendly. I knew that when I booked the property, but I honestly believed that if I could have experienced the bathhouse, I would have rated this property a 10/10. With that said, I'd still recommend the property!
The location is outstanding. Next to the original Hikone castle. The people were extremely helpful and friendly. Nice free beer as part of stay and shuttle back to the train station. We didn’t have time to use the spa but looked nice. Always book the restaurant the day before you arrive.
There wasn’t any coffee available during the day or in The morning before breakfast. Tea in the room only . Would have liked a heads up from the hotel the day before that we had to pre book the restaurant. HotelCorridors smell of smoke as they must provide smoking rooms. Could do with non smoking floors.
Breakfast was outstanding. Impressive choice of dishes. Rooms were comfortable and the public bathing facility was just perfect, overlooking the castle view.
The location was right across from the castle and close to the station, the staff were very friendly, the room was clean, and the breakfast was phenomenal! I’ll be thinking about that breakfast for a while
Lovely cosy hotel close to the castle entrance. Helpful staff,a free shuttle bus to the railway station and an onsen on site.
A little far to walk to the restaurant area, but manageable. As usual in Japan, rooms were a bit small, but fine for 1 person.
Breakfast was so good. This hotel was in front of the gate of Hikone Castle.
In a single room, it was a little narrow. A bed size was a little small.
The location is fantastic! You can see the castle from the Japanese hot spring bath. It is a short walk from the station and the entrance to the castle is literally a couple of minutes away. The staff noticed it was my birthday and presented me with a gift! How wonderful and thoughtful!
The bar faced the castle, looked great in the evening lit up
Spa was no tattoos area . Bit sad really in this modern world.
