    Pros +

    • Nice village
    • The temple was peaceful and welcoming, and the vegetarian meals were excellent. Teo, one of the monks who speaks English, explained the morning ceremony, the food, and shared fascinating history about the temple and Buddhism. It made the experience truly special. Highly recommended!
    • I had an incredible experience at Yochiin. The monks were kind, informative, and gave an authentic experience with dinner meditation and morning rituals. They answered questions and were genuinely engaged. I had a wonderful time and would highly recommend to anyone interested in an authentic temple stay

    Cons -

    • It´s quite expensive according to the offered services. You can just use the showers from 4pm to 9pm and there is no towels.
    • Two out of three rooms were very good, but one smelled like a dead mouse.
    • There wasnt anything there we didnt like. Hope to go back again and hike the trails, visit the cemetery at night and see more of the town.

Very unique and interesting experience. Theo was a gracious host. He explained everything about the morning service beautifully. Sign up for the night cemetery tour if it is offered!

Two out of three rooms were very good, but one smelled like a dead mouse.

We met with Teo, had a nice dinner then a meditation. Next morning we meditated with the monks and had a wonderful breakfast. This was a very relaxing and peaceful experience and I highly recommend it.

There wasnt anything there we didnt like. Hope to go back again and hike the trails, visit the cemetery at night and see more of the town.

Friendly and helpful staff, historic, good introduction to Buddhist practice in a historic temple, outstanding Japanese meals.

    All was good.

Beautiful temple, great location in Koyasan. An amazing experience, the monks were wonderful hosts. The onsen was great and it was a magical experience!

The temple is at a central location. Walkable everywhere.

Both dinner and breakfast were pretty mediocre. I had many excellent vegan meals in the past and thus found the meals at this temple not that great.

This was such an amazing experience in such a beautiful temple with wonderfully kind Monks. We had a monk there as well who spoke English and was able to translate and was very informative about Japanese history, culture, and ofcourse on Buddhism. We enjoyed the welcome tea and snack, the dinner and breakfast exceeded our expectations, and joining the morning service was also very interesting. The room was really nice with a garden view. The temple had zen gardens in the front and garden views from walking inside the temple and from our room. It was also less then 5 minute walk from the main sites of Koyasan! We highly recommend staying here!

Loved our stay here! The room was newly renovated. Clean, modern, and really comfortable. Having our own bathroom was a nice bonus, and everything felt fresh and well taken care of.

The only thing that would’ve made it better is if in-room dining was available, since we prefer eating in our room sometimes.

Very nice but in the corridor too cold (12 degree). Very strict with timetable . No meal served in the room. Family room super and very comfortable. Also bath very clean and warm.

Love it, great experience, the monks that run the temple are wonderful and also to our surprise and benefit there was a novice monk named Theo from Sweden that explained everything in English and really made the whole experience the more enjoyable. The food was amazing, the town of Koyasan is beautiful, and would love to come back again .

Fantastic accommodation. The good was delicious and so healthy. The highlight was the guided tour by one of the temple’s monk in the cemetery at night time. Exceptional !

    10PierrePosted on: 3-21-2025

AMAZING experience! A lot of information and everyone was very generous and patient answering questions. Great food for dinner and breakfast. Beautiful temple in a great location.

It was a bit cold in the common rooms, but otherwise it was really awesome

    7AngelaPosted on: 3-18-2025

Lots of unique history at this temple. The monks really gave a lot of context about the morning mantras, and the night cemetery tour was amazing.

My reservation got messed up without dinner, which was a main highlight for staying in the temple, but there was no flexibility. I had to go to a restaurant. So the price was super expensive without the meal.

    8CharmainePosted on: 3-18-2025

Tranquility, rooms finished to high standards, integration of the monks

    10LauraPosted on: 3-12-2025

Amazing experience! So comfortable with great food! The highlight was definitely the monks who were so kind. Very very grateful to the young Swedish monk who took his time to explain his journey and answered all our questions, helping our immersion in the beautiful culture surrounding esoteric buddhism, this temple and Koyasan as a whole. Highly recommended!

    10MaxencePosted on: 3-3-2025

The evening meditation, sutra writing, and morning prayer service, were amazing. Talking with the monks was very interesting; about the temple, Buddhism, and their personal experiences. The dinner and breakfast were also great.

    10AnaPosted on: 1-28-2025

Amazing experience. You should definitely join the group meditation and morning service. Great hot sake, great dinner, amazing bath. Monks are very friendly. Comfy futons

Very cold. Pack very worm clothes.
