Pros +
- The breakfast offered a variety of selections, however, opening time is short in comparison to other hotels with entry between 7:00-9:00am and closing at 9:30am.The hot spring bath with open air area.
- Food was very good and a lot of it, free drinks at the lounge were great, and the location is great and beautiful
- The shuttle but back and forth from the NORTH side of the maisaka train station was convenient. This property is in a rather remote area so without a car you would need to take advantage of the city bus or taxi services. Bus #20 goes to a huge Aeon shopping mall. The Unagi Pie factory you would need to take a taxi but it is WORTH IT! Check their website to make sure they are open for tours. Google maps does a pretty good job of marking bus stops. The onsen is ok.
Cons -
- Location is inconvenient. The property is a secluded retreat with really nothing to do. There is only one restaurant operating buffet for both breakfast (¥3,800) and dinner (¥9,200). Nearest convenience store is about 20 minutes on foot. There are two drink vending machines which did not accept the current ¥1,000 bill which was an inconvenience. Taxi is a must.
- The elevator is too crowded, super long line for food at dinner time
- Remote area, without a car it's more of a challenge to sight see.

Our room was quiet, spacious, very clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of Lake Hamana. We enjoyed delicious buffet meals. The garden of tropical plants and palm trees at the hot spring was so pleasant.
Great to chill on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto
We didn't have a car so There weren't any restaurants near by, so if you didn't eat at the hotel, which was expensive you had to eat at convenience stores
thank you for a good accommodation. the staff are so kind & respectful. the place are so nice beautiful & clean. i love to stay again soon so much recommendable a good place to stay. see you again GRAND MERCURE LAKE HAMANA RESORT & SPA???
honestly, loved this hotel because of the Onsen and the buffet. Rooms were outdated but clean.
overpriced. They charge an additional $60 per person for dinner.
Disappointed
The room was dirty, it a expensive room and you have to make the bed yourself.
Old hotel with reconstructed first floor onlyReception and Onsen are very well maintained and UpgradedHotel rooms have yet to be renovated, expected better rooms for 4* hotel and price
Exterior and lobby looks grand
Room is old and slated, buffet dinner is a bit disappointing
The onsen was nice.
Very crowded, especially at meal times. The buffet supper and breakfast were way too expensive for what they were.
Onsen was good! Also loved the lounge time drinks
Breakfast was too crowded on the last day we could not even get a table even if it was included so we had to forfeit it
Staff's attentiveness, breakfast buffet
Quality of the futon (was in Japanese style room) - super thin, having to attach sheets to the futon ourselves, including duvet cover, Quality of the provided sleepwear and slippers. I don't mind the quality If this was 20,000 yen per stay type of hotel, but I paid 60,000 yen for the room (one night with breakfast but no dinner), so I thought provided quality didn't meet the standard for what I paid.
The bathroom and toilet are superb!
No balcony, and the beds are two single beds.
Big spacious rooms, comfortable bed and tatami
Nice hotel , clean and well maintained Staff were courteous and helpful
Location a bit off the public transport mode
I recently stayed at the Grand Mercure and had a fantastic experience. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the variety of food offered at the restaurant was impressive, with both Asian and Western options available. The donuts were a particular highlight! The restaurant also features a separate room to accommodate larger crowds, which is a thoughtful touch. Additionally, the onsen was excellent for relaxation, and the lounge area was a great place to unwind.
We enjoyed our stay here. However, on the busy day of our stay, the elevator was often crowded, causing us to use the stairs due to long wait times. This issue was likely due to the high occupancy and not a regular problem.
We really like the breakfast buffet, dinner buffet and unlimited drinks and snacks at the lounge, afternoon and evening. onsen also is fantastic, the staff is very kind.shuttle bus also is a great help.I will bring my family and friends in my future trips.
- Great Hotel, one of the biggest and the most luxurious in japan- Spa and onsen are big, confortable and the clean- Rooms are spacious and clean- Staff is helpfull
- Timing of the pool - pool is small for a 5 start hotel near a beach
The buffet was quite extensive with lots of choice
The location was far away from anything. You could only use the pool at certain times. Nowhere to get a hot coffee or lunch during the day. Without a car, you were stranded if you missed the bus times
