- The location was wonderful to enjoy the Chinkasai Festival this year. Staff was friendly, and I loved that it’s a traditional style hotel (shoe change upon entry).

Cons -
- Public pool was not open, pool with a view was not open.
- The restaurant for breakfast/dinner was expensive, but understandable for being on the island.
- Drain in room rumbled when other soaking tubs were drained.Buffet food was lukewarm at the second seating.

Dessert buffet.Soaking tub in room.Lovely lobby.
Drain in room rumbled when other soaking tubs were drained.Buffet food was lukewarm at the second seating.
The room and facilities were great. Don’t skip the dinner buffet and the rest area has manga and free ramen at 9:30pm.
It provided a roof over our heads.
The property didn't look even remotely like the images shown on the listing. The interior was run down with scuffed walls, peeling wallpaper, holes in the shoji doors in our room, and the entire hotel had a pervasive smell of damp. ALL of our bedding was stained, and when we asked for replacements or supplementary ones, the hotel couldn't provide them. It was a shocking contrast from the bright images shown on the listing and certainly a blow considering the exorbitant price we paid for a one night stay. The hotel reception staff were impersonal at best and cold at worst. Even when speaking to them in Japanese they were dismissive and seemed nearly annoyed to be interacting with us at all. This attitude carried across to other guests, but seemed to manifest most when talking to people who were not obviouslyThe hotel buffet was perhaps the biggest let down of all. ¥3,300 paid for a buffet dinner, only to be served cold, dry, or poorly reheated leftovers from an earlier dinner sitting. The displays on the bain-maries weren't changed so we were serving ourselves with evidence of the recycled food, since the withered and burnt "display" lettuce was right there before us. Several bowls left out for diners to use were visibly dirty. The room was greasy to the touch too, and we left to find that our clothes stank so badly of frying after the meal that they needed washing to get the pervasive smell out. The dining space was cramped and we were even at one point jostled out of the queue and had to line back up again because the volume of people in the dinner sitting was so great we couldn't serve ourselves. On top of all of this, the hotel itself was filthy. The entrance was clean and inviting but everything beyond that was atrocious. Dead flies lined the bathroom on the ground floor, stains dotted the carpets, and our room tap was caked with someone's leftover toothpaste residue.
Spacious room with private onsen with views of the Tori gate. Comfortable beds too.
It was probably a bit overpriced for what you get. The private onsen needed a clean, but once cleaned it was lovely.
Cool design, traditional. Rooms were spacious
pool was advertised but not in use (september, 80°F) Very inconvenient and limited outlets.
The views, location, and amenities were all fantastic!
The location is great, and there are many amenities on the hotel's grounds. The staff were courteous and friendly. They had no problem with a late check-in, and were happy to watch bags until 3:00 pm, which gives plenty of time to explore the island before you depart on a ferry in the morning and afternoon.
There was a big storm that day, and the room, which was on the second highest floor, had a leak in the roof that completely drenched one of the beds. We had to be moved from our room, which had a lovely view and a personal bath on the balcony to a serious downgrade because of this situation. I understand one can't help if there is a serious rainstorm, but this wasn't the top floor of the building. If the leak is this bad on the second highest floor, I can only imagine how flooded the top floor was! You expect your hotel room to be able to keep the elements out, and the hotel failed at this lowest bar to clear. The room we were moved to felt very cheap, for the price point it didn't feel very luxurious at all. The fake tatami matt flooring was very scuffed and the bathroom was cramped and their was no view to speak of, which is a real shame. I would not recommend going here any time during the year when any amount of rain could be a factor.
Restaurant was delicious and pool attendant was super nice!
Service at front desk was not so friendly.
Tucked at the edge of town, a short walk ~10 from the pier, was beautiful to walk through the village. A bit hilly to get to the hotel. Polite and helpful staff (google translate is a saver).Freely choosing yukata and hot spring experience.Japanese family room with futon, tea set and maple tree views added to relaxing experience.
The buffet food was cold.Hard pillow.
Location was great. Walkable to everything. Staff was nice. Room had a private Onsen.
Property is very old and slightly dated. Needs some renovations.
This was the largest room I’ve stayed in Japan. The size, private onsen stone tub on the porch, and vending machines were great. The dinner site was also interesting with a great selection of food.
The room needed better cleaning. I moved a bed, looking for an item I dropped, and found underwear and socks and a lot of dust, left prior to my stay.
Heavenly location, awesome staff.
Nowhere on the booking.com website was it mentioned "forbidden for tattooed people to use the property amenities"
Private onsen
super super dirty. I read the reviews but it was a lot worse than I expected. the sheets was with yellow stains, the remote was to sticky to touch.
There were so many facilities included and conveniences such as vending machines on our floor and a shop next to reception. Our room was very large compared to most hotel rooms in Japan and had beautiful views looking over towards the water, we could even see the Itsukushima Shrine Otorii Gate. Our room also had a private onsen on the balcony which was an awesome inclusion!
The place was starting to look a little bit tired and needing a bit of maintenance. Overall was still a great stay
location is all
Smokey room, old, noisy, over priced
Good location but sadly apart from the common areas my room was poorly maintained, and very dirty. I would not recommend to anyone unless they lift their standards.
It was run down and very very dirty, I paid for a junior suite and it wasn't worth the money to upgrade. It's a shame but the property needs money spent on the rooms and also cleaning to be done to a much higher level. If you're like me and expect a clean room, clean sheets, wallpaper on the walls not hanging off then look elsewhere. Photos attached to this review. I wish Id spent more time with the reviews before booking because there are coming themes of lack of maintenance and cleaning.
The staff and outdoor onsen were great.
The description of the room online was a little confusing.
Good location close to the main shopping area but nice and quiet after the tourists have gone away.
A little bit run down in need of a little freshness.
