Pros +
- Great location and excellent service. The room is very nice, but not much of a view.
- We stayed in the annex and we were completely happy with our stay. Brand new room, comfy bed, private bath, free drinks and clothes washer, decent breakfast, very friendly staff, and location is right next to the trail up the mountain. Very happy.
- Good ryokan in the touristic area, close to the main attractions.
Cons -
- Unfortunately, there is a smoking lounge on the second floor. We had a non-smoking room on the second floor, and because of the smoking lounge, we got a lot of cigarette smoke in our room.
- The location is beautiful, but about 15 minutes from the dock so it was a bit of a walk in the heat. Our stay was also fairly expensive.
- Too expensive for the the facility and food served. Room was a bit smelly.

We really enjoyed our stay at Kikunoya. The gentleman who checked us in was very friendly and helped us understand all the room amenities and helped us find restaurant accommodations for my vegan partner. The room itself was very spacious, comfortable, and clean. The hotel amenities were numerous. A communal hot stream foot bath was very nice after a long day of walking. They also offered complimentary drinks for hotel guests and had a small roof top bar that you could overlook some of Miyajima that was very cute. This is a neutral comment. The layout was maybe a little unconventional, but this was in no way detrimental to our stay. The hotel was also a short walk away from the main streets of Kikunoya. We didn't mind the walk, as it's a lovely town, but I believe the hotel also offered a shuttle service for anyone who didn't want to walk or was less mobile.
We stayed in the recently renovated Kikunoya Villa (annex building). The room was immaculate with clear attention to detail. Our room included a relaxing private artificial onsen and great view of surrounding forest with deer! Yukata, pajamas, and slippers were available. The dinner featured many local specialties in a course style menu. We recommend the Japanese style breakfast, it was delicious! The staff were incredibly warm, accommodating, and friendly. We truly felt at home and cannot wait to return!
Note that the property can’t store luggage or pick you up from the pier earlier than 3pm. They were clear about this and happy to provide transport after this time though. Use coin lockers at the pier if you need.
Everything about our stay was fantastic. We enjoyed the dinner, our room with a view, and the onsen. It wasn't cheap, but we felt the experience was worth every penny.
Staff and service was excellent, everyone was super helpful and accommodating, helping me carry my bags to my room, giving a welcoming introduction to the place when first checking in, greeting me when I came back from sightseeing. Free shuttle was offered back to the ferry terminal post-checkout which was very convenient.Dinner and breakfast were excellent, lots of delicious dishes showcasing the local cuisine (especially if you like oysters) as well as traditional Japanese cuisine.Footbath and Onsen were both free to use throughout the stay, the footbath was located outside the entrance which was a nice touch after a long day of walking. Onsen was also well maintained with relatively light traffic, there were times that I had the entire onsen to myself.Location is very convenient for Itsukushima Shrine (Giant Torii Gate) as well as the Miyajima ropeway up to Mt Misan's summit, perfect for evening/night/morning walks.
Dinner and breakfast, foot onsen, helpful staff. They picked up luggage from ferry in about 10 minutes to store at hotel at request from dock travel office to allow traveller to hike without worrying about bags.
Slightly further from ferry dock than other properties, but still easily walkable without luggage.
Staff was exceptional, free beverages, beautiful facilities and room, foot bath, yukata, shuttle
It was a bit hectic in the front desk area when we checked in
Miyajima and Kikunoya were one of the highlights of our trip. Kikunoya is lovely, with excellent, celebratory food. We especially loved the beautiful, restful onsen...as well as the yukatas they so thoughtfully provide. We booked a traditional room (we are a family) and it was very clean and had a beautiful view over the town and the water. The staff came to make up the futons while we were at dinner. We are a family of 4 adults, and it was quite reminiscent of a slumber party! Just be forewarned. But I really can't recommend Kikunoya enough. Enjoy Miyajima!
The food was incredible, the attention from the staff, the live music performed by a pianist at the lobby.
This was a great place to stay on the island! We were a group of 5 travelling together and could stay in one room. They provided a shuttle back to the ferry and the dinner was amazing!! It was a wonderful experience to eat the several course meal.
This lovely little inn is the place to stay on Miyajima. Centrally located walking distance to town and the Mountain Misan hike, we found it to be the perfect hub for our one night stay on the island. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms and beds clean and comfortable, and the dinner was wonderful. We only wished we had booked two nights instead of one so we could enjoy our stay more fully.
No comments.....everything was perfect.
Staff is really nice and they picked up our luggage to deliver to the hotel when we arrived to ferry station. The office at the ferry station will call the hotel for you. They even gave us a ride to the ferry station upon checkout which was very nice. Staff can speak English pretty well. Breakfast and dinner served was also very good.
Bathroom is kinda small but its an older hotel which I understand.
couldn't have dinner becuase you have to reserve for breakfast at least 48 hours ahead. so thought arrived at 18:00 we couldn't eat nor that evening nor the day after (we stayed 2 nights)/ we had to go downtown and still most of the places were already closed
Staff friendly, nice that staff spoke a little English. Lovely spacious accommodations, great amenities. Liked peaceful location away from the hub bub of tourists and visitors.
Clean decent sized room. Comfortable bed and very nice and big onsen. Free ice cream, beer, and soda. Free shuttle from train station. There is a McDonald's right next to it if you have to wait for check in with free wifi. Also a 7 eleven. Ocean view rooms if you pay for it. Otherwise get crazy road noise and train noise.
In the middle of nowhere and 20 min walk from closest train station. Although they have a shuttle, it won't run when there is a festival. Check in is strictly at 3pm even though check out time is at 10am. I arrived just before 12 noon not knowing there is a shuttle. Can I use the gym? There is no gym. Can I use the pool? There is no pool. Can I use the onsen? Only after 3pm. So I sun bathed topless (I am a dude) on the grass for 2 hours not knowing if that is even legal or tolerated in Japan. Thanks for telling me that there is a free bike rental. It was perfectly set up that there is no shuttle back to the train station between 12-3pm.
Location on quiet street. Clean and comfortable room. Helpful staff
We had breakfast here and enjoyed our time at this hotel in a quaint area that also had pick up and drop off service at the ferry pier.
Great hotel. We stayed in new building , very comfortable.Comfortable bed, spacious room.Great equipment for hair. We have our own Onsen it was excellent !
